Our experience is that if you turn a pond overwinter the summer time especially from too deep you will increase the temperatures too drastically at depths that the fish need to cool which stresses them and can cause fish kills or at least stump their growth and reproduction. We use aerators at night at depths that are not too near the bottom.

Aeration also help feed beneficial bacteria which breaks down nutrients.
