Dietitian’s Dilemma

Dietitian’s Dilemma

Күн бұрын

You guys, I’m elated to have had the opportunity to interview Daryl Bosshardt from Redmond’s Real Salt. As a traditionally trained dietitian, I was taught that salt restriction was important because most people take in WAY too much salt. What I've come to learn is most people take in WAY too many processed carbohydrates which come with cheap, highly processed added salts.
In this interview, Daryl discusses myths around salt and why high quality, salt (which contains trace minerals like potassium, iron, and zinc) is essential in the human body.
Did you know that very low salt diets may actually contribute to insulin resistance? I hope you enjoy this interview.

When I get a headache my immediate thought is “I need to drink salt water” and it hasn’t failed yet since we switched to Redmonds. I’m pregnant with my third and haven’t had a problem with swelling in any of my pregnancies and I believe it’s because I eat a lot of real salt, my provider does not agree with my reasoning 😂

I wish I could convince my dietitian friends that salt isn't bad? She tells her clients still too lower the salt as low as you can and I saw what she gave her clients and she literally wanted them on less then 800mg sodium??? My mouth dropped and I confronted her bit she doubled down and told me she was taught and believes all salt is bad and it has to be lowered as low as possible? She is hurting her clients I hate it!!!

Real salt from ancient deposits is the only way to go. Sea salt that is made by evaporating seawater now has micro plastics and other pollutants that can't be removed. Ancient deposits don't have this. Additionally, much sea salt is processed down to only NaCl and ends up no different nutritionally than regular table salt.

Hi Michelle, thanks to folks like you and Dr Berry, I have ordered and stocked up on Redmond's. I also bought some of Redmond's electrolyte drink packets, for on the road motorcycle trips this summer. Have not began using the Redmonds salt yet, the cheap side of me is using up the last of the pink Himalayan salt I bought at Walmart. LOL Thanks for all you do, including these informative videos.

If you do keto or carnavor, you need lots of salt, I put a 1/4 tsp in a 12 Oz of water, drink that before my walk and another after, plus put lots of salt on everything I eat, if I get any cramps another bottle of salt water, yes Redmond.

Most people need quite a bit of salt especially when going on an LCHF, animal based diet while training. I don't measure my salt, but I'm sure I get at least 4+ grams a day.

A true plant-based diet does not involve “lab created food“. Potatoes, beans, carrots,, fruit, rice, oats, etc are all plant-based and not created in a lab.

Reverse osmosis I believe is the only type that removes pfas forever chemicals thats in most tap water. I purchased a countertop Reverse osmosis machine since no hookup is required I just fill the removeable container with clean tap water as needed. I believe it was around $175 on amazon. Reverse osmosis is the best water filtration available and is often used in bottled water. Oemiry is the brand I bought but many different ones are available. Honestly it was one of the least expensive at the time so I jumped on it and its been great. I have seen identical units from other companies so I suspect a few companies probably makes all of units for 100s of companies. My unit only uses two filters one you replace every 6 months to a yr amd another thats good for one to two yrs!
