@helenweb im a Saudi girl. .my father worked for Aramco cimpany as an engineer for almost 40 years. .we lived in the Aramco compound for 20 years and let me tell you somthing. .Aramco compound is a state, ,an independent state inside the kingdom. ..it is compeletly different from the saudi lifestyle. .so it depends on whers u r gonna stay. In general, it is westerners friendly atmosphere.

@THEMASTEROFYOU2000 There isn't any of that at ARAMCO at least. There are gates, and you need to have the employee or dependent card to get inside, or you need someone inside to sponsor you to get in. It's pretty nice.

This is so true I live in that compound in Dhahran and I knw most of the places shown and I can describe it as heaven and if your a foreigner you feel just like if your at home. But the thing is that inside aramco women have the to do most stuff she isn't allowed to do outside. Like if she wants to go to the mall she would have to were a black covering known as a "abaya" which will cover her body. That's part of our culture. It's totally safe in compounds here in Aramco we have security gates

@tonydavidallen Seriously, I left the country to study in Boston for four years. I completed two of them and i went back for vacation. I was amazed by the new projects and skyscrapers. I got a little but lost when i was driving. I believe that is happening in every developing countries like Korea and many other.

Hi- I am seriously thinking of applying to work as an Aramco secretary early next year. The overall lifestyle package sounds amazing! My only concern is: how easy would it be to meet people and have a social life and date? With other ex-pats I mean, I am a 28 year old female. Are there many people my age who live in the compound? Thanks.

Guys - the people making offensive comments have for sure, the least contact with the people they are slagging, so give it a rest. Unlike Saudis, who get shafted by their own company if you will, ARAMCO will pay 2 to 3 times more than anywhere else on the planet. But you don't get something for nothing right? For most people, the turn-off is the local culture, which I won't get into. I don't mind that. The problem for me is that the management is average to bad, due to nepotism and immature local college graduates being forced into roles they can't handle. As a result, there is no feedback system to correct dumb policies. Insort, we are in a logic free zone. For example. As a bachelor, you will be offered 50 days a year holiday. Sounds great, except that this is including weekends. I kid you not. So rather than '10 weeks' you were thinking (ha, ha, ha, ha) it is actually 7. OK, if you're American, but for a European, (where 6 weeks, no BS is the norm), you'd feel a bit cheated. Some will tell you that if you plan your leave, you can get all the days. That's true, except management will force you in almost all departments to take your leave as a block (to avoid paying you for those pesky days off). Also, you are promised good medical. The fact is, there is only 1 hospital and it is overloaded. While the standard is good, it will be a 2-6 month wait for any specialist. I usually wait till I return home.. If you are non-Saudi, you can forget promotion and training is a crap shoot. Maybe a conference. Very often - particular in the recruitement phase - you’ll be told one thing, and then experience another. I didn’t have these problems, but be prepared. Also, ask for the housing location to be put into the contract, or risk living in the desert… So to summarise, I am only here for the money. That's it. Management could change the rules to make it a little more bearable, but like Saudi culture in general, they are too hierarchical and inflexible.

Uhh, I lived in Jubail for a year and a half and I don't know where Udhailiyah is. In addition, Jubail isn't exactly desert and camels, either. There isn't MUCH (that's fun), but it's a pretty busy place. Just to the north there is a lot of construction (Huwaylat/Fanateer) on housing and recreation facilities. wit the growth of the industrial cities complexes,it will only become busier. Granyted, you don't exactky kjnow when you're going to get acid rain, but eh...

Hi Megan, Thanks for your advice- hmmm well I still am going to go for it. I think Dharharan would be the best choice if it has 10,000 people in it as apposed to the smaller compound in Ras Tanura. I think the advantages and experience will be amazing and career wise it could be great. I think the positives will outweigh the negatives...

@irishxxkelt I don't even know but I think because of the economy. The education level in the country is very very low. I can't even explain how. I mean the higher education. if a lot of foreigners from Europe and the US work in such a country. the salary won't be low (10k USD and higher). as a result, large amounts of cash are going to fly out of the country.

If you have the opportunity you should go. I had an amazing experience but you must be open minded and be mindful and respectful to people. This clip is for those of you who are wishing to work for Aramco.I don't work in that field. All the compounds are different,I had a cinema and church where I was, shops, swimming pool gym etc.You are free to do whatever but you must be respectful of people in religion and culture. Saudi women are reserved people, they understand and speak Arabic fluently, highly intelligent and hold degrees either from a university in the Kingdom of Al Saud or overseas. I worked very closely with women from all parts of the world as well as native Saudi women. That in itself was a privilege for me.With all dye respect and confidentiality I will not discuss that.. There are dress restrictions for Men as well as women in some areas so you must dress accordingly. In Jidah you do not need to wear an Abaya and Shayla in public areas like a shopping mall but you can't walk around dressed half naked either.Arryadh is different ladies, you must be wearing an Abaya and Shayla for landing.. There are some beautiful ones..I purchased mine in Dubai...you can spend as little or as much as you like on them.I wouldnt buy the first chanel or dior Abaya as your first one though. Underneath your Abaya you can wear whatever you want..any thing at all.Wear it in your hotel room and get use to it..since it's long and it has to be long. Now,I've worked in the gulf region for many years and I am use to it..When I first looked at myself in the mirror with my Abaya and Shayla I looked so different...and within a week I thought "God, I really look great..I learnt how to drape me shayla in a week.My final touch was make up,I thought Gosh I really do look pretty and elegant like this. As an Ex Expat if I could go again I would go in a heartbeat. There is lots to see and do..but in Saudi alcohol is prohibited. If you need your alcohol, drugs, pornography or are likely to commit a crime then you may possibly be staying in Saudi for some time. Saudi women can now vote and although driving was not allowed in the Kingdom back then I believe some women have taken to the Wheel. You are in charge of what you do with your free time because you get more holidays than your home countries possibly. The beaches are great you have the Arabic peninsula on one side and red sea on the other. You can go to Oman even for a week end and families too. Please bear in mind I can speak 4 other languages other than English, I am a professional skilled person and all I've said here is based on my personal experience. There are rules, and one must adhere to them. However, there are rules wherever you go in the world. I will try to think of some real negatives just in a general way and add them here at some point. I do not work for Aramco I'm in a completely different field.Your salary is completely your own.The hospitals are high tech up to date. They are of an Exceptional standard in comparison to what we have in the UK.Waiting times are reduced and all areas are well staffed in comparison to the UK. Overall, looking back I would say my transition was very fast. I did go to the highly restricted areas where a majority of people can not go. My experience was very enriching. So,do some research but go to credible sources for information. I have seen some things I've read that are astounding to me. "never judge a book by its cover" as we say and you will hear many more Arabic ones that are centuries old. I hope some of you find this information helpful if you are thinking of going to work in KSA. Enjoy, your time.
