It's really cool that you include this kind of jazzier/funkier pop stuff and don't just focus on the hard Rock/metal guitar. Much appreciated.

Thanks for this! A lot of other tutorials failed to pick up on the "Bb11" and just called it an Ab (I express these chords as Ab/Bb or C#/B because to me that's the easiest way to think of them). I appreciate your commitment to finding the right voicings, and as far as I can tell, you're spot on across the board! These old funk/pop/R&B tunes are great for learning those different voicings and inversions, and learning how to play within the rest of the band with significant orchestration. Right on, great job, and thanks again.

Thanks for the great video and for really figuring out the right voicings for these chords! For the Cb/Db, on the isolated track it sounds like it may be voiced as 9th fret E string, 11th fret A string, 9th fret D string, 11th fret G string. It sounds like more of a sus chord on the guitar actually than a major chord. What do you think?
@7thString846 жыл бұрын
Great lesson, Ben! I always struggle with that funk strumming and this will be a good exercise. But what I've recently learnt, is, that especially this funk strumming is often a victim of the sound. If it's too harsh and/or the pick is too thick, it just won't sound AND FEEL right. Do you use much compressor here? Also an important aspect, I think. Now I have an earworm (not that bad). ;) Thanks, man!
@BenEller6 жыл бұрын

That finger shuffle from the Ab/Bb to Bb caused me problems when concentrating on singing backing vocals while playing this... so I actually play both chords with my thumb handling the bass note on the sixth string. Then it's a brain-free thumb-anchored slide in the left hand while locking eyes on the lead vocalist and ears on matching vocal timing and pitch. Takes a while to get your thumb used to the stretch, but it's a really helpful technique.

Great video, thank you for sharing your good work! I would just say that the Eb-9 you're actually playing doesn't have any third so it would be called "suspended" (without the 4 / 11). Wouldn't really matter since the function of that chord in the song is minor... But in the bridge, that function changes for a dominant 9. In other terms, it's not an Eb-9 but an Eb9.

Hi thanks for your transcribing but I have a question I hear the key to be in Eb dorian or in other words Bb minor as all the notes sung revolve around that tonal centre. What do you hear?
