I traded my SBE 3 Performance Waterfowl ($3400 gun) for a Browning Maxus 2 ($1700 gun). Best decision I’ve ever made. As someone who is a die hard waterfowler, the difference in the two guns is not even comparable in my opinion. The Browning Maxus 2 completely smokes the SBE 3.

I agree. Here in the cold, nobody keeps an SBE long. They are 1 shot auto-loaders in the cold. I would take a Winchester SX4 over an SBE. Have owned about everything. Currently running with the Beretta A400 Extreme Plus. Had a Maxus and liked it, just wanted to try something else, but have not tried the new version of the Maxus.

I’d take my original Browning maxus over both of them. After a decade of use for clays, dove and waterfowl hunting it and it’s been for a swim, freezing rain and snow, etc… I am absolutely not convinced a gas gun is any less reliable in dirty hunting conditions than an inertia. Only in the event of an extremely high round count between cleanings and used in the same horrible condition MAYBE then you could see an advantage with inertia gun. And even then duck hunting forums are full of guys who have benellis that fail to cycle because they never clean the recoil spring.

I don't see that roughly three tenths of a second spread across 3 rounds ( 1/10th second per round) makes much difference, and no one shoots upside down. The ease of disassembly and cleaning means more to me, along with fewer parts to break. The number of pellets on target matters most but this video is not that type of lesson. This man's videos are very well done and helpful. Either shotgun seems more than capable.

The recoil comparison would be more revealing if you loaded a second round into the tube so the bolt can return to battery, the perceived recoil is increased because the bolt mass is slamming back and staying back instead of returning to battery. Just an observation

Good shooting but “Most” hunters/shooters would benefit slowing down their shots not speeding them up. You have 3 shots better to make them count than to just throw steel as fast as you can. But otherwise spot on review and when considering long term reliability it’s hard to beat a Benelli. Look at the dove camps in Argentina they have Benellis with well over a million rounds through them. They last and easy to fix when eventually something does wear out or break.

In all your experience shooting the Browning gas system between the SX4s, and now your test guns, did you ever experience spring failures or issues with the rubber o-ring in the piston? I have a Maxus, and wondering what I should keep on hand in terms of spares for years to come (and for piece of mind). Mine has four springs I believe: Spring for the forearm when installed, the heavy piston spring, piston return spring (that is on the mag tube against the received), and bolt return spring. Wondering which springs, if any, should I keep on hand or have even a few on hand. Even, the piston o-ring...not sure how easy that would be to get out and replace however but might be wise to have a few on hand. Any other parts prone to failure? Looks like the Maxus 2 gas system is identical.

Concerned you keep having feed issues with the Maxus 2. So many owners say the classic “I put 10,000 rounds through this gun and it never missed a beat”. I always find those claims hard to believe as every semi auto I have shot has the odd feed issue here or there. This Maxus seems to have a lot though. Do you think it’s a lube thing, or a speed thing, or just maybe a lemon? For me, reliability is almost more important than anything else. Ive adapted over the years but I'd really love to see your video on overcoming some of those issues as you talk about. Any chance you could go over that and there might be some things I (and a lot of other shooters) could use- I know I'm not the only one out here.

I'm very interested in what you're saying at 10:13+ about both eyes open. I've tried literally (not figuratively) for years to learn to open both eyes while shooting at a flying target. I've even worked with a shooting instructor. I'm right handed + right eye dominant, but I cannot for the life of me hit a target with both eyes open. I'll miss every time with both eyes open. With one eye closed, I hit targets more consistently. I wish I could explain it. It goes against what every high level shotgunner teaches.

Ypu just have to figure out how to locate the pattern when both eyes are open. Like where is all that shot going when I look at my target dead on. I blast a big box first to see if it's off the center of my aim. Then at clays that are hanging or in bushes. Finally just get back to clays and I try to lead in a way that will put my pattern to the target

Informative video, but only a few of the areas you covered were relevant to areas serious hunters would want covered. Weight, fit and finish, and functionality with heavier loads were good tests. Over the head shooting, disassembly time, and speed shooting not so much. I'd like to see pattern testing, functionality in extreme weather conditions, and durability of the finish. Good results in those areas would be top selling points to most hunters imo. I would give a first hand review of those areas after my trip out west with my Maxus 2, but we didn't kill shit sooooo.. lol. Overall great video for new shooters though man. Thanks!

This is a bit odd, I’ve watched a few reviews on here and like them a lot, but do have some criticism. Seems like the maxus 2 trigger has improved, but I’ve viewed other Olin (Winchester/Browning)products on this channel and praising the SX4 trigger. I’ve cross-shopped the SX4 twice in the last yearfor my Wife (compact) and myself (hybrid hunter 3.5” and the browning silver)… trying multiple ones at the shop… they all had wretchedly heavy triggers. (6.8lbs++)… I also owned 2 SXPs that had 7.2 and 7.4lb trigger pulls respectively. I have an ATA Cy (weatherby SA-08) it’s trigger is around 5lbs, nice break. An 870 wingmaster that is 4.4lbs, wonderful. A 1977 browning auto-5 Japan, 4.3lbs A400 is under 5lbs and my wife’s affinity compact is also under 5lbs. Are they sending altered guns because I’ve never handling a modern Winchester/browning that is under 6.5lbs. They seem to be the only major maker with triggers this heavy. I also find it funny that low “take up” is praised on a heavy trigger, then the next bit discusses gloves and the trigger guard size. If you’re using gloves that fill a standard or slightly oversized trigger guard, you aren’t going to feel that “take up” at all in the field. Love the channel, but criticize Olin where they need it, their triggers are by in large substandard, you can help them improve.

When I look at triggers I look at 2 things, weight and feel. As far as weight, I am pretty happy with triggers anywhere from 5-6lbs. I am with you, if it is getting past 6.5lbs, it's too heavy in my opinion. That being said, I have shot guns that have lighter triggers but they feel terrible. I don't like triggers with a high amount pre-travel (amount the trigger moves before it breaks) The SX4 that I tested had a trigger pull weight of 5lbs 3oz and I am happy with that. The Maxus 2 was 5lbs 9oz and I was okay with that. We have had SXPs with very heavy triggers and I always struggled to shoot it well. One of the lighter triggers on guns that I have reviewed was on the Ultima. I liked the weight but didn't care for the feel. I also was shooting it the other night and there is something wrong with the trigger that I have to investigate. Several times I would shoot and it wouldn't reset. It sounds like we have had a little different experience with the guns. I welcome feedback and love to hear what others experience has been. Please also know that what I share isn't gospel, often it is my sharing my opinion. 👊 Stay Target 🎯Focused (Hebrews 12:1-3)

@hissingoose 3 жыл бұрын
@@TargetFocusedLife hey, really appreciate the comment back. seems like our experience with the SXPs has been similar, but not on the semis. it made me check the travel out a lot closer (really slow pull); turns out my $500 ATA has less travel and slightly cleaner break than my $2k A400. lol i also checked out randy wakeman's channel, his experience with browning/winchester triggers seem to be worse than mine. the one thing that channels like yours and his really promote is gun fit and keeping both eyes open; that's so important to enjoyable shooting experiences. every firearm can likely be nitpicked until the cows come home, but folks should get something that feels natural and mounts/fits well for them. one of my hunting buddy's got a browning silver last year and absolutely loves it, i think the gas system is really similar to the sx4? i agree with you on 3.5" shells, i loathe shooting them. luckily we've got a company here in canada making a commercial 3" 1 1/4 oz steel loading at 1550fps that seems to be the sweet spot. i can't shoot like you or your brother, so i try to decoy birds within 30 yards; it's super satisfying when their wings go into landing mode and their feet drop.

There’s a reason the military only use pump actions (Mossberg 500 and 590-a1 and Remington 870 special purpose) and inertia operated (Benelli M-series) shotguns. Reliability. Only reason to use a gas gun is if you’re a child, extremely petite or very old and need a little relief (all GOOD reasons to use a gas gun). But they’re too finicky and stubborn to be worth the price.
