Thank you for posting. I have just returned from my first long ride for a weekend holiday. I have 14/42 and solo, but fully loaded, I found the centre of Towns very difficult to find the right gear to use. On the motorway is was much better. I think I will first try to eliminate any unnecessary weight from my luggage and if that isn't better, I will try the 14/44 gearing with full luggage. Thanks again, this video was REALLY helpful!

Thanks for watching! Thats exacly it! :) Finding the right gearing for each of us :) Its great very long geariing on the highway but then on the city its not so good. At the moment im using 15/44 (rougly equivalent to 14/41,5) and its the best of both worlds altough i would like a bit longer gearing for those long trips :)

The 15/42 is only suitable on the X version IF you don't load your bike up with a fully set of panniers, top box and a pillion.

Yeah Nuno its a good option specialy if you like relaxed riding. On my previous TRK i used 39 teeth rear sprocket but that was a bit too long. Was nice on highway tho :P I think the 15 front sprocket ( same as 41,5 rear) is a good balanced option, altough with pillion and full cases 44 is better :P Cheers thanks for watching!

thanks for the video. Please answer me to these questions 1. the problem with the clutch becomes more intense with the 15 sprocket, yes? 2. did you loose anything from the top speed? can it still go 170 with solo riding? I just bought an X second hand and it has some upgrades, sport filter, remove of the pre-catalyst pipes of the exhaust and mapping. It has more power than stock but i am still afraid to loose vmax if I change the sprocket...

Thanks for watching! Let me try to awnser your questions: 1- It will be more clutch intensive if you ride in the city or into offroad :) On the road its actualy nice if you dont ride too heavy! :) 2- I havent trying top speed yet but I would say you probably loose a bit top speed while climbing and gain a bit while going down :P If you have those mods that help the engine breathe a little better I would give it a try the 15th tooth since its very similiar to the road version trk 14/42 that goes all the way to 183 I think ;) Cheers!

Does the bike feel relaxed and happy at 130/140 km/h on long highway stretches. Does it have extra punch at those speed for overtaking? At what revs does vibration occur? Looking to swap my Himalayan for something more road/highway friendly as the himmy even with performance upgrades is very uncomfortable to ride over 110 km/h
@WolfMates2 жыл бұрын
Hello :) The TRK is not a high speed highway motorcycle. However if you swap the sprocket for an extra teeth you can cruise at about 130kph without stressing the engine too much. And if you go at 140kph and want to overtake. Its possible but it will be a bit slow. The TRK is a heavy motorcycle with alot of wind protection and that makes it not very aerodinamic for high speeds, but its very stable. However it engine has nice torque and its a very good motorcycle to do those long jorneys. Myself have done several days of 600kms per day without any pain. Very confortable motorcycle. Top speed of the TRK X is about 170kph on leveled terrain, of course it has alot more power than the himalyain. Cheers thanks for watching!

Just bought my TRK502 and wanted to replace the front sprocket with the 15 teeth. This video was very helpful for me to make that decision. I already bought the 15teeth sprocket. I will now change it. On another note, I can do with some of your advice since you have long-term ownership of the TRK already. I have done about 1,600km so far and I have been having hard shifting gears even when the clutch is fully pressed, what could be the problem? How can this be rectified? The dealer has not been very helpful with this.
@WolfMates3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your new TRK :) Yeah the 15 teeth sprocket allows us to keep those revs lower, specialy on the highway :) If you have done 1600kms you probably have done the first service right? Did it get better? Usualy the shifting gets much better with the increase of the kilometers so im sure it will get better. If not its probably due to two things: Or thicker oil or bad clutch cable adjustment. Funny thing it happened to me was that I had trouble shifting if it was from the boots i was using at the time haha. The shape of the boot didnt work out that well on the gear lever :) Cheers thanks for watching :) Let me know if it got better ;)
@HLMM_KE3 жыл бұрын
@@WolfMates Yes for sure, the highway revs are a little high especially when you hit 120Kmph. I did the first service at 1,000Km. The subsequent services are recommended at 6,000Km intervals but I intend to stick with 5,000Km. The gear shift is still hard and also the gears tend to stick and not move to the next gear even with the clutch fully pressed in. I will have the dealer look at the cable. I can also change to a lighter oil if need be though am using 5W40. Thanks a lot for your help and the video is super helpful. By the way am in Nairobi, Kenya...riding here is super crazy.

@tiagomarqu33s3 жыл бұрын
Esqueci-me de dizer, claro que a AE é só a forma de chegar ao destino, depois lá faz-se as estradas nacionais e de montanha, por este motivo também não sei se compensa fazer a troca porque depois posso "massacrar" demasiado a mota nas subidas.
@WolfMates3 жыл бұрын

How much does the fuel economy improve with this change?
@WolfMates2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I tought it would improve more... but since it has less torque with 15T sprocket it kinda evens out. I would say that yes it improves on national roads at highway speeds, but might be worse in town or mountain roads specialy if loaded. The big travels I did i saw very identical fuel consumption numbers. About 3.5 liters / 100km at 90kph and 4.5 in town (relaxed ridding) but at 120/130 its about 5% better :) In summary: If you ride like me, very relaxed and without pillion and alot of highway its a grealy ood option. If you like sporty ridding or ride with pillion and cases or offroad, i dont recomend it , this on TRK 502X. On the road version TRK it realy gets too long :) Cheers!
