Day 3 of training out here in Iten, Kenya. Today headed down to the local dirt track in Iten at the Kameriny stadium. First we observed the local professionals and then followed up with 12x 100m strides, our first introduction to some speed as we continue to acclimatise to the conditions. If you're new to the channel please leave a like and consider subscribing for more.

Just wait until the local Friday race. You'll never feel slower in your life. 15min 5kers are left in the dust by all the locals!

I’ve only come across your channel recently, and have binge-watched multiple videos as I really like your modest and easy-going manner. Love this series in Kenya, so please keep posting everyday. Good luck with getting used to the altitude and the heat!

my old kameriny track now it's destroyed ... this track was absolutely wonderful to train on 15-20 years ago .. almost everyone was here then and run the shit out of themselves .. there used to be nice stands on both sides .. it's a shame that they destroyed this arena.

I read a book a few years ago called "Running with the Kenyans" and these videos really remind me of that book. I don't remember much of what the book was about, but I know it involved running, and I think it took place in the same town as the one in this video. It was an awesome book, and I am really enjoying these videos so far!!

That sound byte about the Kenyan runners doing nothing but “run, eat, sleep” is wild. Following Luis Orta I’ve learned how it’s a job and their livelihoods literally depend on it. What was the takeaway from that particular talk?

Looks amazing Ben and really enjoying you taking us on your journey 👌am curious, with respect to food, if there are any plant-based athletes there? That seminar sounded amazing and so much Coaches could learn from 🙌
@RunningTrips
@RunningTrips Жыл бұрын
Hey Phil, Hope you don't mind me replying on Ben's behalf. Plant-based diets aren't common amongst Kenyan runners (at least not through choice) but a lot of the food is plant-based anyway. The founders of Kenya Experience (the trip Ben is on) are both plant-based athletes ourselves, and whenever we are there we don't have any problems with the diet. The kitchen at HATC (the training centre we stay at) is well accustomed to accommodating plant-based runners. The only thing I would say is that you would probably want to bring plenty of snacks along with you as finding good options between meals can be difficult, but in terms of breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp itself plant-based is absolutely covered. Cheers, Gavin

I appreciate the content but are any of these athletes or their sponsors receiving money for foreigners benefiting from their training, expertise and geography? I see so many foreigners go there and I do not see enough compensation go to the athletes that help all of you. Imagine if i asked Bowman to let me train with phelps for a week or a month.
