At least five passengers have died and over 25 others injured after an express train collided with a goods train in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Kanchanjunga Express was travelling from Silchar in Assam to Sealdah in Kolkata when a goods train hit it from behind near Rangapani station. Watch.

Were any steps taken in the past by the authorities to rein in such loco pilots? So who is ultimately responsible? Think twice before commenting.

Lakhs of people are employed with various Central and State Govt organisations and departments... stop blaming the govt for every mishaps...detailed investigation shall reveal the cause of the accident.

Probable Reasons: Many railway employees were hired during the past UPA rule when corruption was higher. Therefore, carelessness, disloyalty, reservation in hiring, etc. are expected from them and hence these accidents. The Railway minister immediately visited the accident site and has strictly instructed the officials to take stern action on the culprits. It was a serious fault on the state governement for years to not build enough infrastructure to evacuate the victims during emergency. It was state government's failure to not provide enough medical care to the victims. Central government released funds for the ex-gratia of the victims the moment the news was heard, but the state government is withholding it. Any other probable reasons I missed, please add. Thank you.

I am from Siliguri and for your information railway minister is on his way.. he have not reached yet.. 2nd railway is central's problem.. 3rd Siliguri is in North Bengal and bjp has won all the election here.. so you trying to blame tmc for this is completely idiotic... I think congress party is responsible for this as they have a possibility by decreasing Modi and BJP image by these things. These is written in a book on how to bring down a government. They did farmers protest and they are doing train accidents. You can see the train accidents are happening/happened in states where BJP are not ruling.
