Having lived in Bangalore since the year '89.... flooding has been seen in many places over the years and keeps getting worse. The reason is the poor drainage system and bad infrastructure. Places like ulsoor and surrounding areas have been experiencing floods during heavy rains from the '90s. Now, as there is more lake encroachment and agricultural lands being converted into residential layouts...things are getting worse... The state and Central government will just continue to blame each other and it is the common man that suffers due to the terrible condition of the city... potholes on roads, bad infrastructure and pathetic service by the government!!!

While purchasing flats and independent bldgs, we should ensure that it is not low laying area, where whater logging is possible during rainy season, proper drainage system, proper parking system etc are available. The solution or the prevention of this problem is not that difficult. We need decentralisation all over India. Bangalore has clearly grown beyond what the city can support and some of the existing and upcoming industries need to come up in other parts of Karnataka. This helps take off pressure from just one city and also helps with keeping a check on the high real estate prices, traffic and overall health and peace of mind of the residents. Unfortunately, the politicians don't even want a fly to land away from Bangalore for obvious reasons.

Bad design of the apartments. These are built at the lake level - the basement should have been higher than the lake level. You cannot build at the same elevation as the lake and then complain now. There has to be a buffer flood region around the lake for overflows. Looks like all these places have been built in that buffer zone. Cannot feel sorry.

The low lying areas in Bengaluru notorious for flooding during every rain, are the ones being shown in this video. Reasons blockages in storm drains (Rajakaluve) (rain water from roads has no functional storm drains to flow to), encroachment of lakes beds (water from storm drains, has no lakes or reservoirs to flow to), and sometimes just the lay of the land, for Bengaluru is not a plain say like Chennai or Delhi, its a hill, and the land has peaks and troughs like any other hill eg Kendriya Vihar Apts which is built in a trough gets flooded EVERY year since inception.

Belonging to Bengaluru rural since 25yrs+ . This was not the blore I saw as a child. I Remember traveling with my grand father to blore, such large roads with minimum vehicles, beautiful lakes, native homes, green and clean roads, fresh air, well maintained city........ Just no end to its beauty. I can bet and say that bengaluru was* best, in everything. Best weather, great resources, no drought no floods, not too hot not too cold, best medical facilities, best transport, best educational institutions,......wt not? Bcoz of these best things, people came flooding from various parts of the country. First they come as single person for job/education, then get the whole family and settle down here (arguing kannad* gotilla, why should i learn the language,without us blore will not survive, etc etc). To fulfill demands, govt didn't care and there started unplanned urbanisation. Any place has his own geography and nature can handle only limited population (humans,animals everything) with its fixed resources. Earlier 30x40 site has 1 or 2 houses, holds 10 people maximum. Now these builders build 20-25 floors in same 30x 40, with 1000s of people living and expect unlimited resources..... Wow👏🏻👏🏻 Yes, outsiders aren't aware of the geography, Lekin...... aaya kyun? 90% people living there aren't from karnataka itself.... In the name of urbanisation, IT companies etc etc we lost the Bengaluru we knew, Next target is Mysore😞. No plz.....

Why the town planning authority looks only at the plan, design of the building etc, leaves the grade level of the building from its preview. If grade level is also brought into approval category, the flooding could be avoided. The main reason is the authorities are not giving approval taking the overall topography of the area to ensure storm water is drained off.
