What we have is a harp for a harmonica player as well as a guitarist who wants to play the harmonica.
The Penta Harp is built for all musicians, not just harmonica players! If you have ever tried to learn the harmonica before and were confused with the note layout, this harmonica is for you. The Penta Harp’s intuitive design is easier to understand so you don’t have to use advanced techniques to get the notes that you know will work. You can play melodies and solos effortlessly!
The Pentatonic scale is one of the most useful scales in popular music. Guitarists know this scale as “Playing in the Box”. Play any of these notes in the right key and you can’t play a wrong note. Hohner took this a step further by adding what is known as the “Blue Note”. This additional note adds a chromatic run for extra expression and is known to many as the “Blues Scale”. To play this scale on a standard harmonica you would have to perfect advanced techniques that could take years to master.
Unlike standard Richter-tuned harmonicas, there is no need to play in 2nd position or “Cross Harp” position. The Penta Harp is straightforward in its tuning. You can play in the same key the song is in or the same harmonica can play a song in a major key if it is the relative minor. The notes are laid out in such a way that you do not need to draw bend, blow bend or over blow to play a useful scale!
While you don’t need to know how to do advanced techniques to make this a useful instrument right out of the box, there are so many things this harmonica can do that no other harmonica can!
• You can vamp in the standard 1-4-5 pattern just by blowing on holes 1-2-3.
• Octaves are easily accessible and you don’t have to change your mouth embouchure. This works on both blowing and drawing!
• You can blow power chords, which no harmonica has allowed before!
For those that do know more advanced techniques you will be amazed to know what this harmonica can really do.
• You can draw bend on every hole across the entire range of the harmonica!
• While the Penta Harp is not necessarily set up for Over blows, this new note layout allows for more Over blows than any other harmonica.
• In 3rd position you can play the major pentatonic scale with the available draw bends and over blows

When I heard Elwood Blues playing blues harp in the Blues Brothers film from the 80s, I couldn't get over the crazy sound of the harmonica. I watched the film over and over - even watched it last night! Had to get me a harmonica...
Seeing Paul Lamb playing the Station Tavern in London was the final straw - I started having lessons from him and became a Sonny Terry nut. From there Little Walter, Big Walter and gradually found out about all the greats.

Thanks for that . I wanted a Pentaharp but as they are as you say not available here in the UK as yet I bought a modular reed harmonica from Brendan Power in pentaharp tuning . I am blown away by it . It is a new design as you know Sir and should be the future of harmonica construction. I highly recommend them. Thanks and best wishes Brian.

Buenas Noches Ben, I got my a minor pentaharp in the mail today. After playing it for a bit, I put on a slow blues backing track in A minor, and plugged in my strat. This is a cool blues harp that blends right in with a guitarist playing pentatonic riffs. There is some type of digital tool that allows a player to transpose tab to play the pentaharp. Just like you mentioned in your video, I find myself drifting from octave to octave with ease. It's a cool harp. Kudos to Hohner!

Hi Ben I've just come across your website for beginners of the harmonica and I would love to learn how to do play it more proffessionaly.. No you might know who i am from the world of comedy but I'm also a vocal act doing singing and vocal impressions. I've worked with Manfred Man's Band at several gigs over the years. If I'm not mistaken the guy that puts my music tracks together for me his name is Mickey Simmonds I believe you might know him as I was in his recording studio in Hersham and said you might be gigging with you and you might be able to help me learn to play.more songs and at a much better level. I have a Lee Oscar harmonica in the Key of C . I met a musician called Elio Pace and we hit it off straight away and asked him if he would be prepared to do a performance of Billy Joel's song to close the first half of our Woking Charity show that I produce and direct and compare throughout. He very kindly agreed as the only provisery was that i gave him was that he had to let me sing Piano Man and play the harmonica to close the first half. and again. Elio kindly concured and on the night we smashed it out the park 🤣. It had always been something I had wanted to learn so he told me i must buy one in the key of C, It took me three weeks just to realise it was basically just one note being either sucked or blown and my daughters screamed at me every night when I would do my hourly practice. I practiced the notes and on the night other charity we rocked the joint. My middle daughter Tieney came back stage into my dressing room in the interval and was upset and crying. I asked her who or what had made her upset and she replied...she and her two other sisters had had to listen to me blowing the notes every night and which had driven them mad as first all notes were in the wrong order and it sounded dreadful 🤣 but I perciveered. I practiced one hour every day for three weeks so you can imagine how it drove them potty night after night. However I pulled it off eventually as I'm sure you know it turned out to be just one note playled with either sucking or blowing to get the sound. It took me.three weeeks .of an hour a day,'s practice and when she saw my efforts on the stage it had made her cry as she was so proud of me. 🥰 I want to improve.and if possible you could call me and explain how we move along.with private lessons perhaps explain how to learn on this your KZbin channel. Either way if you have time to call me please do so. Piano Man is now in my stage show and goes great with the audience. I will send you a copy of what I did but I would like to improve my skills and i hope you would have time to call. Currently I can only play Campdown Races and Happy Birtday.
