BENIDORM OLD TOWN

We visit Benidorm Old Town and Tapas Alley in Spain to see what it's like. Benidorm is a popular tourist destination located on the eastern coast of Spain, in the province of Alicante, within the autonomous community of Valencia. Benidorm Old Town, also known as "Casco Antiguo" or "El Casco Antiguo," is a charming and historic district that offers a unique contrast to the modern skyline and bustling beaches of the newer parts of the city.
Benidorm Old Town:
The Old Town is characterised by its narrow, winding streets, white-washed buildings, and traditional Spanish architecture. The area has a laid-back and authentic atmosphere, making it a favourite spot for both locals and visitors seeking a more traditional experience.
Shopping: The Old Town offers a variety of shops selling traditional crafts, souvenirs, clothing, and more. Exploring the local shops can be a delightful way to discover unique gifts and mementos of your trip to Benidorm.
Local Life: One of the main attractions of the Old Town is its authentic Spanish ambiance. You'll often find locals going about their daily routines, and the pace of life is generally slower and more relaxed compared to the busier tourist areas.
Landmarks: The Church of San Jaime and Santa Ana is a prominent landmark in the Old Town. This blue-domed church, built in the 18th century, is located on the main square, Plaza de San Jaime. The square itself is a hub of activity, with restaurants, bars, and shops lining its edges.
Tapas Alley (Calle Santo Domingo):
Tapas Alley, locally known as "Calle Santo Domingo," is a must-visit spot within the Old Town of Benidorm. It's a narrow street lined with numerous tapas bars and restaurants, each offering a mouthwatering selection of Spanish tapas and drinks. Here's what you can expect:
Tapas are a beloved Spanish tradition, and in Tapas Alley, you can indulge in a wide variety of small dishes, including patatas bravas (fried potatoes with spicy sauce), albondigas (meatballs), croquetas (deep-fried croquettes), calamares (fried squid), and much more. Each bar usually has its specialty, and it's common to order a couple of tapas along with your drinks.
Tapas Alley is known for its lively and convivial atmosphere. It's a great place to socialise, enjoy delicious food, and immerse yourself in the local culture. During the evenings, the street comes alive with locals and tourists, creating a vibrant dining experience.
