Thanks. Getting my first pcp Delivered this Friday. I’m usually AR and AK guy but thought I’d give this Air rifle stuff a try and save some money on ammo and time. I’m getting the Walther Reign bullpup in .22 Found your video very informative, thank you. I wasn’t sure if I want to switch the charging handle to the left side but if I have to break this thing in half to do that . So polishing the barrel will make it worth my time doing both. Or if I don’t have to polish and I’m lucky at least I’ll know I don’t have a barrel problem. Who am I kidding ! All gun people like to tinker with their toys we can’t help it.
@sub12airgunners2 жыл бұрын
Ifs its not broke fix it till it is, but tinkering and messing around with the rifles is most of the fun for us trying new things and getting results is much more fun then just shooting on its own, good luck with your future tinkerings. Thanks for watching.

Very very impressive 👏 UKs best Benjamin? I'd definitely say so 👌 If you actually stop and consider what this gun was out the box i.e a budget mass made Turkish rifle it really does just go to show what a bit of tune and fettle can really do especially when carried out by someone such as yourself 😁👍 Brilliant watch as ever 👌 keep em coming the more technical the better 🙂 atb

Thanks mate, the Benjamin has really surprised us, we though there was no way we could get away without re-barreling the rifle and doing a bunch of re machining, but as of now we have done very little in terms of specialist work and its transformed the rifle, shoved a reg in and give the barrel a ruddy good polish and getting a sub 6mm c2c group at 50 yards, more work to come. Thanks for watching.

Most other barrel polishing demos they are adamant you don’t go past the end so the crown doesn’t get rounded, but they are all using rods. Difficult if you are trying to sort out the choke. Do you think it’s so important to avoid going over the crown?

I prefer the Patchworm barrel cleaner, it does a deeper and more thorough clean then other barrel cleaners. I also believe the choked barrels cause more problems than not, as they cause lead to build up in the barrel.

Please excuse my ignorance as I am new to modern air rifle shooting and am waiting for my police approval before I can join my local club. I hoping to invest in a pcp rifle once I have learnt to shoot my old Weihrauch HW77. I am absolutely amazed at your skill in gun engineering and the fantastic results you have achieved with this rifle. My question, again please excuse my ignorance is WHY don't the manufacturers carry out this work in the first place to improve their product is it simply a question of cost ?. So impressed I have subscribed thanks so much.
@sub12airgunners2 жыл бұрын
Its just cost, this rifle cost less than £600 new, and to check every rifle at a range and tune them to make them good would take too much time/ money, the thing is they work on volume some will be useless and some will be fantastic, we had one in the club that straight out the box was phenomenal, its just how lucky you are. Thanks for watching.

Thank you. You said in the video that "you can go too far when polishing barrels", and my question is, has that ever happened to you or anyone you know? And what was the result from too much polishing? Thank you ahead of time.
@sub12airgunners5 ай бұрын
yes what tends to happen is the crown or the lead gets uneven and you get flyers from the pellet loading badly or leaving the crown one side before the other
@Leo-qj3wr2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, as a hobby machinist an airgun enthusiast your videos are very interesting. I got a r5m .25 that the first 20 cm are very tight then loose a bit and tight again in the choke, never have consistent results with it. Looking inside the barrel look very good and shiny . I'm afraid to screw up if I polish , what do you think? Thanks
@Leo-qj3wr2 жыл бұрын
And the pellet entrance is a little bit sharp to . Got very good results couple of years ago cutting the choke in a hw 100 barrel and polishing the crown
@sub12airgunners2 жыл бұрын
if you go slow and steady you should be fine, if the lead is a little sharp start there, the pellet should feed in with a bit of resistance but no real force, chokes are funny things and pellet choice can make a huge difference, if it feels excessively tight you could benefit from taking some material out of it. Thanks for watching.

All I can say is that barrel steel must be soft to be able to remove metal with a piece of string and some metal polish!

Its an abrasive action the auto- sol contains aluminium oxide which we impregnate into the string, aluminium oxide is just a little softer than diamond. The metal isn't soft the aluminum oxide is just much harder. Thanks for watching.

Do you lead a barrel after a polish?
@sub12airgunners2 жыл бұрын
Good question, I push a pellet through straight after polishing and cleaning the barrel, and get a feel for it, if its still rough I give it another polish, but when I am happy, I just put it back on the rifle and shoot it, usually after a polish the barrel takes half the amount of leading up, this barrel needs less than 50 pellets to re lead after a clean, and shooting it all Saturday I never felt the barrel could use a clean.
