Can't wait to see the Ultrex in action under your awesomeness this season Ben. That launch at Secord is blah, great body of water, horrible public access for what it is. Friend just got a new skeeter with ultrex on it, we broke the big motor in yesterday at a small lake down here for a bit and played with the ultrex and calibrated it to the ipilot, pretty neat piece of equipment that I'm jealous I don't have that's for sure. Hope I get a chance to be up that way and run into you again this year, tight lines and be safe out there!

Everyone up here (MN) is upgrading to the Ultrex. I could see where the Talons would be useful when fishing in slop, pads or really shallow because they don't make noise. Unless you're a tourney fisherman, probably not enough utility there to justify the Talon price tag, however.

Not just spot lock. There's also follow the contour. If you're on a wide open body of water where you don't have to stay tight to structure, then pure electric steer is no big deal. However, when you're on a lake like mine trying to stay tight to the weeds and then want to turn back around, the Terrova and Ulterra trolling motors can wrap around the shaft multiple times. But they won't wrap too many times on spot lock. So that's another reason to get the Ultrex is it physically cannot do that.

Good good points. If you have Bird units, you can get the link to have it follow lines, etc

I'm with you 100%. The multi-angles helps a ton. I LOVE my Garmin graphs - the biggest selling point for me is the Panoptix transducer because it changes the way I'm able to fish offshore structure, because I can actually look at it in front of the boat without having to guess where it's at. That alone, for me, is the biggest selling point!

Nice to see you out on the water Ben! I should be out in 3 weeks from now if all goes well...Some places I go still have ice so I don't wanna damage the boat with an iceberg...As for the angles, 1st side view is nice, used to see it for picture but not videos, it's a nice change of pace. 2nd one, still nice but a bit too back IMO. Front one, I've been using it for a good bunch and is nice for explaining things while still fishing and showing off fish but a console mount on a bassboat works better for that. Still, take care out there man and hope you can some nice spring biggins in the time to come. Bass is only opening in 63 days, june 15th for me so you'll be way ahead of me for that.

I like the other angles. I think there is a time for each though. With the chest cam we have a chance to see what you see easier than with the other angles, so if you are seeing a lay down or schooling baitfish it’s easier for us to tell that’s where you are targeting. But I liked the view of the other angles as well. I think they are good for seeing how you are working the rod with different techniques, all of them work for me though
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
I feel that for sure. I think I'm going to try and swap between the angles and use them as the situation warrants it. I think it's super interesting to be able to see more of what's going on on the water, but the chest angle shows certain specific things too!

The big cable that goes to the pedal. I believe it’s was switched over. As your looking toward the bow from the deck this cable is off the boat instead of inside the boat. I don’t have a manual for it. My friend bought this motor used and no manual in site.

Thanks, I greatly appreciate your input, Ray
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
Hey Ray - I love my Garmin units. For the way I fish, specific spots offshore or running down the bank, I don’t think I’d use the contour follow feature with HB units enough to justify it. I could see it being awesome if you know they’re along a certain break/depth or for trolling, but the way I fish, it doesn’t suit me enough. Good question though, because having that ability to link the graph to the TM is pretty sweet

like I said I would say I fished shallow and deep last year close to an even 50/50 split. a lot of people think that the ultrex is great off shore but I think its better shallow where you have to be sorta stealthy and act fast when you hook up. if I'm fishing docks or frogging a clump of grass where they are schooled up or any shallow cover and the wind is blowing me into it and I hook up ill immediately hit spot lock and it will keep me away from any sort of cover that I would otherwise blow out if my boat blew into it. anyway sorry for the rant and if you ever find yourself in Wisconsin let me know and we can get out!

In my opinion you cant compare talons.or power poles with spot lock. They are both good for different things. I rather pole down in shallow water. Spot locking in less than 6 feet of water is a major disturbance to the fish. Spot lock is awesome in so many ways. Basically all the areas to deep to pole down.

Lol, if you had an Ulterra, you wouldn't need a dock. I absolutely love my Minn Kota Ulterra trolling motor, Plus I had back injuries from work, and it helps a great deal, I can enjoy fishing 100% again because of it. My most favorite lake has such a crappy dock, its kinda lopsided and is doesn't seem very stable, maybe one of the posts for anchoring the dock might be cracked, but with my Ulterra I never need to touch the dock, it doesn't seem stable enough to tie my boat up to it to keep it there while parking the truck, i'm not sure what other people do, they definitely need to fix it, whoever is in charge of that. lol or maybe it's not much of a popular lake and no one goes to it enough to care, either way i can have the lake to myself and catch giant walleye, bass and crappie
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
That's so awesome! I've started playing with the Ultrex a bit, running it away from the dock and spot locking away from the dock, but I always get nervous it's going to float away or some one will get worried and think it floated off!
@jakeboss63426 жыл бұрын
That has happened to me a few times, parking the truck, the boat is out there 10/15ft away people trying to my attention yelling your boats floating away, I yelled out, No its okay, I've got an Ulterra (Like they know what that means). it took me awhile to be comfortable using that feature, I practiced all the time getting to know the trolling motor so i could get comfortable using and steering it while i'm not even near my boat, and practiced so much it ran out of batteries using it the entire day, without even fishing, it's such an awesome motor, if people are nearby they stare at an empty boat controlling itself lol. I'm very surprised that I don't see more people using one

I know this is an older video but I like the chest cam. Lets me see what's really going on from my normal perspective.

I appreciate the comment! Yeah, the chest cam is fairly “normal” POV style

I like an angle from the back of the boat, you can wear a mic and it would be awesome!

Mixture of the chest cam and the middle side of the boat angle. Different than any other youtubers.
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
Yeah! And an interesting perspective to be able to see things that you might miss from the chest cam!

I live in GA and my home lake is Lanier. I do a lot of off sure damage so the Ultrex is utilized quite a bit but.....if you are familiar with Lanier we have plenty of coves and shallow areas that are relatively shallow. Especially in the fall when forage is pushed up into these shallow areas, my PP are awesome to use. Of course I can use my Ultrex as well but why spend the juice if you dont have to. 8' or less, Im on the poles. Options are always good...always.
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
Hahahah Yes! If I could, I'd have 8 or 10 foot poles AND the Ultrex. there are so many times I wish I had poles on the boat

The title talks about ultrex test drive. Where's the video about the ultrex?
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
The entire video is my discussion about the Ultrex and my first impression using it. Talking about the value vs poles, utilizing spot lock, etc. Sorry if you felt it wasn't what you were expecting

Walleye and multi-species anglers have had that technology for more than a decade now. It is nothing short of amazing. I hate the chest cam view!
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Terrova is sweet for those walleye guys but just was never marketed/made for the bass guys who wanted the feel of a cable drive and needed the stronger base. I’m excited to play with some new camera angles this year

Hate the chesty view. Love view 1 and 3. View 2 is too far away I have both 12’ talons and a uttera and couldn’t imagine fishing without either.
@brnowak_fishing6 жыл бұрын
I'm so with you! I had talons for a while and loved them, but this spot-lock is going to kill the game!
