That almost makes me wanna get off this cozy couch and brave the chilly to hunt them again here in So.Cal. 😂 Nice job Benjie.

Till this day it will never stop amazing me how close these beautiful beasts come to the shore. I used to think you had to cast a mile out. But after enough patience….. I’ve been able to cast a light battlestar WITH a baitcaster and been able to slam them on the beautiful California coasts ❤

Thanks so much for the comment and support. As much as I’d like to say yes to every opportunity to do this, it’s not something I can commit to. I do fish with subscribers on rare occasion, but that’s typically a longer process where I’ve had the chance to meet and get to know said individuals first. I’m just an average fisherman who’s put a lot of hours on the sand failing, skunking, and not knowing what I was doing. I think I’ve gotten better over these years and I have no doubt you and anyone else can get better too. The hard part is getting out there. I hope you stick with the process! Tight lines 🙏

Yea man, we were grinding hard so fished even harder when we found them. Next bites never promised so gotta try and take advantage!

I’ve learned to never underestimate the value of dead sticking in the surf. Those critters know wave action stuns/moves their prey and will take full advantage of that.
@BenjieKimFishing9 күн бұрын
Great word. In SoCal, it’s fairly rare for me to have the kind of back current situation to even try. But this is an extremely valid way to get bit and it was cool to experience. Tight lines!

Stumbled across your channel recently and have always been a freshwater fisherman. Picking up some okuma gear at Longfin after work today and going to start fishing the surf. Recently moved to HB, and am about a mile from the beach. Looking forward to getting out there Saturday morning 👍🏼

The beaches around Monterey CA have Striper. The fishermen throw pencil poppers at them from the beach.

Great video Benjie. Gives me hope to still be able to get some fish this time of year. Where do you look up KJ for the area you're fishing? Chasing birds is so exciting, out east, when the birds are in casting distance, you know it's going to be an epic day for striper fishing.
@BenjieKimFishing9 күн бұрын
Surfline and surf-forecast. Surline is paid and the other is free. It’s def a helpful metric when planning out a session. Mannn, one day would love to experience an east coast striper bite! Tight lines!

Sweet man. 😎🤙🏽 Those perch were CHUNKS and the stripers look so fun! You ever try single inline hooks on the lucky craft? 🤔 I’m curious to try them just cause I never really keep anything, haha wonder how they’d affect the bait and hook up ratio.

I was fishing the Bu area for the big BSP and started off fishing the LC with no luck. However, I knew the fish were there since I saw one jump out of the water very close to shore in the front trough. I then switched to a micro keitech and immediately get bit and proceeded to land BSP up to 14" one after another. Unfortunately, no stripers yet in that area.

Love the content, I am going to need you to dial me in on those special LC colors, my local spot doesn't carry those. Show me some love Benjie!

Hey Benjie, what knot do you use for braid to mono? I’ve snapped off probably 10 times by now losing a lure each time 😅
@BenjieKimFishing9 күн бұрын
I used to use the RP but lately been using a modified Albright. Honestly, it’s my opinion that the knot choice doesn’t matter as much as our confidence and competence in tying whatever we’re tying. I’ve had many failed connections myself. But with plenty of practice over the years, my failure rate is pretty low now. Stick with it and it’ll all come together! Tight lines!

Hi Benjie - I'm a retired guy from NJ and I fish the local surf (from Apr to Dec) several days per week for flounder, stripers, bluefish, croakers, etc. and light tackle jigging and plugging is my favorite way to fish. Our season has just wrapped up for the next 3 (cold) winter months. But, I'll be vacationing in the LA area from early to mid January and trying SoCal surf fishing for the first time. I've watched a lot of your videos (BTW, they're great!) to get local insight and I've started putting together my travel gear (rod & reel, waders, plugs & terminal tackle) and identifying potential areas to fish (Will Rodgers State Park Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Dockweiler Beach). I was wondering if you have any seasonally specific advice for January surf fishing near LA. I'd really appreciate any thoughts you might be able to share.
