As a couple of folks have pointed out, the Ocea Jigger Anthony was referring to in the video was the 2000. There is no 2500. Thank you for catching that and my mistake for not catching it during editing. My sincere apologies. Additionally, thank you everyone for all the positive vibes and stoke! Tight lines!!

I really appreciate what Ceasar said regarding the hybrid style of slow pitch jigging used on the West Coast. The original Japanese method works very well with a light jig over good marks and light current, but often the sport boats on the West Coast have current/wind and have fish under the boat because of chum thrown. So the technique doesn't have to be as subtle since the fish are usually fired up. Fishing shallow reefs in Hawaii with no chum, the original method of lightest line, lightest/smallest jig frequent pauses is our best method to get fish to bite. I'm really enjoying this video series guys!

Awesome video Benji, I was on a 2 day last week and watched a guy absolutely smash the BFT on these noodle rods! They definitely do the job. Btw please let Anthony know I caught 8 blue fin 70-108lbs after they were gill and gutted on that Phenix rail rod and Malaira 20 he sold me! That set up is a BEAST! 😂

I tried one out on my last 8 day and it's just not my thing. Also, the whole light line thing is controversial on sport boats for tuna...especially if one guy is stuck on a fish for 2 hours after the school leaves on 60lb. I think they are great for private boats. Jmo Great video as always.

thanks a lot for this video. Concerning the acid assembly, should the rings turn to the right or to the left for a right-handed person holding the crank in the left hand?
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for the comments on both of these videos and thank you for your patience! I just got off the phone with Ceasar and in his experience and opinion, it does not matter which direction the rings go. He did explain to me that this is a somewhat hotly debated issue and there are folks who will argue that it does matter. But in his opinion and experience, having custom built rods in both ways, it is irrelevant which direction they go. This is just his experience and opinion, nothing more. Hope that helps!

Slow Pitch is great. I have some Titan rods. However. Some charters aren't too fond of slow pitch anglers primary because it takes them longer to bring up fish. I have talked to deckhands and they are cool with it, but they will tell you on the DL that it takes too long to bring up fish.

Thank you for making these videos. They are really helpful to those of us who want to get into slow pitch jigging! I still have a ton of questions though :) Here are a few of them: 1. Is there a rule of thump regarding weight of the jigs and fishing depth (I will be fishing in 50 -150 m)? 2. I live in northern Europe so I will be targeting cod, coalfish and pollock that don't run a lot, are not all that strong and are mostly less than 10 kg / 22 lbs - what is the thinnest line I can get away with? 3. I have noticed that most people use left handed reels for slow jigging - do you recommend this as well and why?
@Matt-ke6yq
@Matt-ke6yq 5 ай бұрын
1. jig weight very much depends on current, but benchmark range would be160-220 gram jigs for 50 meters of water and 250-400 gram jigs for 100+ meters. Stronger current you'll want heavier jigs with thin profile. The wider, slow fall butterfly jigs tend to get swept away in heavier current and you'll struggle to hit your target depth if it takes too long for the jig to reach your desired depth. 2. Rule of thumb for line is the deeper you fish you'll want less resistance, so thinner braid. 15-20lb braid for 150 meters of water when fishing for cod/pollock, but 30lb braid should be fine when fishing 50-100 meters of water for these fish. 3. No idea, I wouldn't feel comfortable fishing a left handed reel!

That's a great question, I'm gonna ask one of my guys and find out. With the Titan rods, the lightest one they have is TJX-C 63UL which has a lure rating of 20 to 60 grams. I did a quick search on the Ocean Legacy and Star rods and didn't find an option for something that light. I'm sure there's an option somewhere because that sounds really fun!

Hey there, thanks so much for the comment/question. My apologies on that, Anthony is a wealth of knowledge and he shares off the top of his head and sometimes the info gets mixed up. It's my job to catch that and I didn't on this one. @BenjieKimFishing Жыл бұрын
Hey there, this is the braid capacity for the 1500 - 40/300, 50/250, 65/180 Based on that you can determine what you feel comfortable fishing for. I'd say it would be fine for up to small tuna and yellowtail.

im confused about getting the OJ 1500 or the OJ 2000. i fish the tropics in Bali and never go under 150 meters of water but the jigs get quite heavy (500-700g). can the smaller 1500 handle this type of jigs? any advice is welcome thank you!!
@Matt-ke6yq
@Matt-ke6yq 5 ай бұрын
The OJ 1500/2000 are the same reel, only difference is line capacity. I'd go with the 2000 or 4000 sized reel (bigger fish) if you're frequently fishing 150 meters of water. I really wouldn't recommend the 1500, give yourself extra line.

Jigging - my first time doing deep sea high speed vertical jigging (spinning reel) was more than 40yrs ago off Bar Harbor Maine with a small head boat. And my grandfather was doing it in the 50s and 60s he didn't invent it. Not sure what this guy is talking about. Large chromed jigs diamond or otherwise and big bucktail jigs and ones with an eel patter tube. Been doing this since 40s at least. Not with modern reels obviously.
