As a child, we lived near a famous pizzeria that always placed two anchovies as a cross in the center of the pie. I used to beg the owner to leave the anchovies off the pie. He told me "no achovies, no pizza." I used to cry while peeling off those scary fish of the slice. Until I grew up and tried them. They were delicious.

This reminds me so much of Napolitan pizza I had in Italy. The anchovy adds great flavour to the pizza. It was also a revelation for me but loved it very much.

Yess when I was little, my mom held up a fork with something on it & I didn’t want to eat it but she said it was just chicken & begged me to try it so I did & it ended up being chicken liver & I hated it from the second it hit my tongue before knowing what it was 🫠 thinking she could get me to like it LOL

Anchovies really are good at adding a nice savory brininess that enhances the flavor of homemade tomato sauces so nicely (I use the fillets though). Unfortunate that they get such a bad rap in the states, but good on you for encouraging your family to try something new! You should make a Caesar salad dressing with the anchovies

When you’ve had the umami flavor you’ll know. I’ve been cooking with fish sauce, fermented fish paste, fermented shrimp for my family for a very long time, and they’ve come to enjoy it especially my children (10&13)

You succeeded in getting your girls to try it! Seems like Keira liked it the most. I love wood fire anchovy pizzas! That was my go-to order when I was a kid. Can’t quite find them around since moving to USA. Also I love fish eyes! In Malaysia, fish head curry is famous and the eyes are the best part. 😋

Maybe u could fried the anchovy separately till its dry & toss the oil. Let it cool & pound it using pestle. Then after u cook the sauce, sprinkle anchovy on ur sauce let it cook….

Why do first world countries don’t like the idea of eating something raw or like the anchovy. Maybe because who guys are used to eating all beautiful food and most of the time already processed nicely. In the third world countries, most of the time we prepare our food from live animals to cleaning it then cooking it. It’s no big deal. Come to think of it, it’s healthier than processed foods.

Benji just an advice. When you want your kids to try something, don’t tell them. Let them eat it first. When they are done, let them have their feedback. And then you can tell them. Remembered when Judy mentioned what you did In Mexico. You told her first that it was an exotic good. The reason why she didn’t enjoy it coz in her mind it was already conditioned that it’s a weird delicacy. Keep your mouth shut first if you can hold it.
