I remember when GW was selling that battle board thing. A modular table for warhammer. I had the similar idea but mine was 6 segments of 2' by 2' with a smaller frame below that would sit on my kitchen table, sort of as an extension making my table into a 6' by 4'. And I wanted to use my citadel battlemat or any other mats that would fit.

These turned out fantastic, my only concern about building a board is how finite they turn out, for example you made a lovely out doors hill scape on one side that I'd love to play on, but then I'd have to build a hellscape version, then a frozen tundra version, Sci fi industrial, moden city scape...ugh, first world gamer problems I suppose, but atleast you've given me ab idea how to do two in one

Great idea! We made a fold up mobile table (so to say) and then have 1x 1 foam tiles we can layout on the table. I like your idea better That being, I would lighten the load with some half inch cabinet grade plywood. Looks like you used half inch MDF which might not be much different but 3/4 weighs a lot. Would also use some cleaner select pine for the edges and stain it. Thanks for the inspiration and keep the ideas coming.
@BenjisHobbies
@BenjisHobbies Жыл бұрын
In hindsight there would definitely be ways of lightening the load. I’d probably go with 6mm MDF rather than 9mm next time. My concern with ply is that the quality (especially from big box stores) in the U.K. can be a bit iffy, so long term I think MDF would be a bit more functional. Thanks for your kind words! 😊

that's gotta be the most beautiful board i've ever seen! especially love the way you made the grassy side, it looks so vibrant but still very realistic. For warhammer it might be a bit too hilly, but still very sweet. I would love to see you make some modular forests/hills/river/whatever in the same style and see how you can diversify this board to keep it fresh over multiple games. Hint: Warhammer the Old World is coming out this or next year most likely, creating a load of new wargamers looking for inspiration for their own boards

Thanks for your kind words! The boards were 1.22m so ever so just about 4ft. The edges did unfortunately eat in to this space but realistically this shouldn’t make a huge difference in most games, especially friendly ones which I’m most likely to play on it 😊
