As a holder of an EASA B1.1 Aircraft licence type rated on A320 & A330 the salaries seem about right. It's not easy to gain the licence or the type ratings and it will also cost you quite a bit of money. Once qualified and you manage to gain employment it is a rewarding career choice. It will take you a few years to gain all the relevant qualifications and time on aircraft so don't think it will happen overnight.....

In the US they are called Aviation Mechanics not engineers. They are classified by the government as a non skilled group thanks to the airline industry who do everything to keep from paying higher wages. The government classifies auto mechanics as a Skilled work group.AMT’s do not get the respect or pay that Auto Mechanics get. This needs to change and soon as growth in the airline industry requires a large amount of AMT’s to replace aging AMT’s that are retiring.

Just to be clear, anyone can perform maintenance on an aircraft, however the work needs to signed off by a Licensed Engineer. What large companies and airlines do is they have dozens of technicians(read labourers) carrying out the work and minimal Licensed engineers to sign off on said work. The engineer basically carries all the responsibility and rarely gets to QC the work done. This is why, amongst other cost cutting, (well pre COVID anyhow) that your short haul airfare is sometimes less than your cab from the airport to the city.
@wesleymiller95084 жыл бұрын
Sorry to disappoint the punters, but the information here should be two separate videos. One titled Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or Mechanic (Trade Certificate or Diploma), and another titled Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineer (University Degree). Typically it is only trade engineers/mechanics who do the maintaining of aircraft & components, and Aeronautical engineers who do the design, test and repair schemes for aircraft. These are two very different career paths, and very different remuneration. Unfortunately for all the people who have completed university qualifications in different engineering streams outside of aviation, please realise that you would need to start as an apprentice or such if you wish to physically be involved in aircraft maintenance. Otherwise, consider a career in an engineering office, supporting the functions of aircraft maintenance at an MRO.

In Europe you have to deal with the EASA that's the authority in Europe. You need to pass all part 66 examens with a minimum hit score of 75procent. For a B1.1 engineer this is 11 examens. You can try three times in a year to pass for one examen. After you pass all the examens you have 10years to get your license. You can get a license if you have 3 years of experience in maintenance. The best way to get the most experience is in the hangar. If you can kick ass in the hangar than you are set my friend! After you got the license you need to get a aircraft type on it. Like A320 family with v2500 engines. Or a other type of engine. After you get some years of experience on them you my friend are going to get the big bucks. You work for 7 to 9 month's and the rest of the year you are off. That is if you hire yourself to a airliner or a maintenance organisation

Good video, but a few points to consider: Standardize the wages so people can compare. Also engineers is misleading terminology unless they actually have a bachelors degree in engineering. After finishing at Chelsea College all I was offered was unpaid work experience at Coventry Airport back in the early nineties. Which I did for a year and a half. @mountainmiked81606 жыл бұрын
For anyone considering an Aviation career in the U.S., all I can say is don't do it. It was the worst career decision of my life. I worked for a major airline for 10 years. Rotating shifts, rotating days off, mandatory overtime, six days a week, sometimes averaging 15 to 20 hours of sleep a week. Told you are expendable. Told the company did not issue you a family and your loyalty better be to the company. Highest pay year was $36,570 with 460 hours of overtime. I am now an A&P/ IA in general aviation and average $3,500 a year at a small airport. A lot of guys I worked with quit and started cutting lawns for a living and doubled their income. I know car mechanics that make three times what a current aircraft technician makes. Since 911, general aviation has hit the dumps here in the U.S. If you don't have, or want a family life, like long hours for low pay and don't mind feeling like crap all the time then commercial aviation is for you. The only reason I am keeping my licenses current is to help a dear friend supplement his income so he can care for his disabled wife. There are a lot of great paying rewarding careers out there, but you will be disappointed with U.S. aviation. Watch some of the archived interviews with old Eastern or Pan Am mechanics. Most of them say it was hell. That"s my opinion for what it is worth. Your experience may be different. Take it or leave it.
@BenLovegrove6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input. Yes, people need to be cautious and realistic. They need to do their research and if possible, talk to former employees before joining certain companies but I doubt that your experiences, bad as they were, are true of all airlines in all states. I certainly don't agree with this gentleman. I have been an A&P mechanic for 15 years and never made under $50,000. I work for a major airline now as an inspector and make $115,000 a year on 40 hours not including overtime, which is not mandatory by the way.

Omggg this video was so educational and supportive since it gave me a ideal of what it would be like to be a Aerospace engineer. This video also taught of what classes to take wen in High school bcoz rn iam taking physics and chemistry just to get into this air field and be great will all others. I also have a question that if u r great in this, will u also get a free ride to different world country
@BenLovegrove6 жыл бұрын
So glad you like the video and find it inspiring! That is why I make these videos. Skills and experience are valuable, so if you have developed the skills and have a few years experience you may find opportunities open up in other countries, but there is no free ride. You have to prove you are valuable.

I'm currently undergoing an apprenticeship in Ireland which has a duration of 4 years. After my second year I'll have my A License, in my final year I receive my B1 or B2 license depending on my choice. The company pays me a small wage now and covers all my license fees and once qualified I've been told I'll start on over 40k a year plus bonuses. There is a mass shortage of aircraft engineers, so there has never been so many opportunities or avenues into the career. I've enjoyed every minute so far!

@@eerikivanov9079 I'm an apprentice for Dublin Aerospace. You won't really know how it goes until around the June/July timeframe. That's generally when they'll do final interviews. Having said that, they might be doing it earlier this year. Dublin Aerospace is a very good place to do your apprenticeship as it's a Part 145 overhaul facility so you'll get to see a wide variety of B license work. It's also the hardest place to do your apprenticeship because of that reason, depends on how you look at it! Best of luck in the application though, feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Hi, try applying as a “Volunteer/Work Experience” that’s how I started. Volunteered for 6 months, Monday to Thursday from 6am to 4pm (without pay) and because of that I have LUCKILY landed an apprenticeship. On my 6 months of apprenticeship now. Try going to Leased Federal airports or applying at privately owned Aviation businesses. You could try the big companies such as Qantas (which recruits once a year between September to January), Virgin Airlines (which recruits once a year as well but I don’t know which months), Jetstar (once a year recruitment, I forgot which months they do it) or check out Seek.com.au, Gumtree.com.au (under Engineering category or Other Jobs) and many more. Good luck with your job hunt and I hope you can land a position soon! Edit: I forgot to mention I work in GA (General Aviation). If my mind and body allows me to continue in this industry, I’ll consider Airline as a “leisure” job 5-8 years before I retire (around 65 y/o).

If you're in the US, go to an certificated aviation maintenance school. You will be fully prepared to get your a&p license when you are done and will have not have an issue finding a job. The tough market to get into is the major airlines as they have pretty good pay, good benefits, and predictable schedules so competition is fierce, but there's plenty of good job outside of the airlines as well.

You have to take certain classes for Bachelors in Aerospace/ Aeronautical Engineering then you will be qualified for this. I am currently doing Bachelors in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. I hope this information helps. But pleas talk to your counselor before taking any action. Don’t rely on 1 or 2 KZbin comment. Good luck brother.

It depends on what country are you from. For example in my country India, we can not do double degree simultaneously.
