In this video, he reminisces on a few of his favorite recording sessions with the likes of Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, and Ringo.

Never EVER ceases to amaze me.....since Petty's passing, I've basically done nothing but immerse myself in the work he and the Heartbreakers did. As hugely talented as EVERY member of that band was...NONE of them thought that they were "the shit" and no one was better. Always gave credit to their peers and those who came before them.

Amen to this. I've been doing the same.....and I've discovered the exact same. They are all legendary. Such musical geniuses.....and yet always SO humble.

I'm completely and absolutely fascinated by the Heartbreakers, and have been totally devouring any content whatsoever related to Tom Petty for a while now. I was just thinking how understated, humble, and cool Tench is. He is so talented, and he was incredibly loyal to the Heartbreakers. It had to be hard at times being the piano/keyboards guy on the all-time, quintessential, guitar band. What an interesting dude.

I dont think this guy has ANY idea how good he is. He just is. Gainseville Fl has produced some SERIOUS musicians, and he is the 'back bone ' that underscores the Heartbreakers and everything else he touches.. Simply amazing

One of the musicians I would love to sit down with over a coffee and listen to his musical stories. Love the one where as a kid he hung around the piano store and just played for hours everyday.

Every guitar player, singer and songwriter is looking for a Benmont Tench to work with. He's part of my dream-team band, my make-a-wish fantasy (if I were a dying man). Not surprisingly, the other remaining Heartbreakers would be part of that fantasy-wish also.

I was wondering why it did say "of Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers" in the title, apparently because he's done so much more than I thought.

Are those Frantone pedals? Love the stories about how, if you manage to get Ben Tench to do keys on a track, whether you're in Los Angeles or Wasilla, Alaska, he WILL insist on his own organ, piano, keyboard, whatever it is, be flown in for the session(s).

What a great artist! I didn’t realize Mr Tench had contributed to the album Building the Perfect Beast by Don Henley. If so, does anyone know how he created the sound for the brass lead on “Sunset Grill”? Sounds like either a Yamaha CS-80 or a Korg MS-20. Mr Tench, are you out there? Thank you!

Ben, himself, might disagree with me but ... to my ears ...his best "keys" with Petty was on "Damn the Torpedoes." Benmont's keyboard work defined that record and it never seemed as prominent (on the other Heatbreakers' releases.) Dunno?
