When two people missed in a duel they just stopped. Typically duels weren’t meant to kill, they weren’t even about being right. They were mainly fought over a perceived slight, and the defense of ones honor. It showed that the participants would defend their honor at the cost of their lives. Spiraling technology (bullets that spin) actually killed dueling because the guns became too accurate and too many people started dying.

True for the most part but there are examples of dueling opponents that disliked each other and they would simply reload and repace until one or the other was shot (maybe not dead but in that era probably).

Odd head canon I have is that Benn Beckman could be Robin's father because he went from the North Blue, studied at Ohara, found something else out other than about the ponoglyphs, became a pirate and went to East Blue. It might be completely off, but it's something that got stuck in my head.

Here’s a theory that has probably been posed before, but what if the reason Shank’s crew has the highest average bounty is because every single member of his crew is a Conqueror? Shanks being a Conqueror himself and having sailed under Roger would probably have a knack for spotting Conquers. It’d also explain why someone like Rockstar was brought on when his most notable aspect was his mouth, he was a Conqueror who had yet to awaken

It was stated multiple times that too many conquerors in one crew are bad, there are only a few exceptions, like katakuri, because he needs to protect his siblings and rayleigh and zoro, because luffy and roger are so great that they still want to follow their captain. The only person who had many conquerors in their crew was rocks, but it is implied he used force to keep them together and that doesn't fit for shanks

It was stated that Shanks crew is the most balanced. The fact that everything cease when Shanks shows up probably has to do with his crew mates all being close to the same strength. It was stated they were all famous too. I don't believe any Yonko crew rivals Shanks crew.

@@davidortiz3094 everybody stopped because there were to many sides and everybody was exhausted if shanks had just shown up first the marines or whitebeard would just kick his ass sorry but getting some exhausted battle damaged people to quite fighting is not that impressive big mom or kaido could have done that also of note each faction would have been fighting more then one faction at that stage blackbeard white beards crew and the marines were all against each other last of note is the crew is much younger with shanks being less wanted then most other emperors so beings like katakuri and king just have more experience

I was thinking (more of a fanfic I guess), wouldn't it be cool if Ben had something like the force-force fruit, where he can increase the force of things in motion to a ridiculous level, like shooting a bullet from his flint-lock rifle and increasing the force of the bullet to such a ridiculous amount that it can shoot through mountains, leaving a gigantic hole and throwing everything to it's side away? Maybe he can even use it with punches when he has to fight in melee range to give his fists an insane force. I think that'd be cool and it would give him a reason to use something like a flint-lock rifle.

In historic duels, it was considered most honorable for each participant to fire a shot, reload, and then count down again. It would go to death or surrender, perhaps long after the first volley. Wealthy pirates often carried multiple pistols with them, which is why Blackbeard does it. Guns are hot though, so they'd have them in holsters or sashes rather than in the pants like Blackbeard.

8:05 Alright, interesting piece of history. In a duel, I'm sure they could set different terms and I may be wrong, but I believe they are typically one shot and whatever happens happens. So if both miss, call it a good day and go along your way. A lot of times, people would challenge each other to duels for the sake of their honor/reputation, but then in the actual duel itself, both of them just fire into the air or something and everyone walks away unharmed. HOWEVER! The duel isn't over until both combatants have fired their shot. So normally, you want to try to fire first because it's not worth the risk of getting shot. BUT if you really want your opponent dead and you're feeling lucky, you wait and let your opponent shoot first hoping they either miss or hit you non-lethally. Because if they fire and miss, then you have all the time you want to stand there and aim real good to shoot that other guy dead. And if you don't believe me, look up Charles Dickinson vs Andrew Jackson. Jackson decided to wait and ended up taking a bullet to the chest, but he survived. So Dickinson had to stand there as Jackson held his chest to staunch the bleeding as Jackson took aim and ended up killing Dickinson.
