Guzzlord lacks any way of boosting its offensive stats and has a bunch of common weaknesses (including 4x to Fairy) that keep it in check. Pretty much like an alternative Dondozo that trades some of its walling ability for the option of running mixed offense. Plus it lacks Unaware so it's not as good of a wall as Dondozo and not much stronger either.

Mind Blown isn't effected by Reckless because it has fixed recoil instead of a percentage of damage and the point of Reckless is that it increases damage to your opponent and to your own pokémon.

Dazzling for Blacephalon. I'd say its overall appearance, coupled with the mind-blowing head, is quite dazzling. Competitively, it completely flips the match-up against would-be checks like Gambit, Rilla, Urshifu rapid, etc.

My Fakémon region has an ability called Catch Of The Day, which heals a Pokemon's max HP by 50% after a kill (usually given to Pokémon that are great at hunting prey). Think of it like Beast Boost for HP. If Guzzlord could find a way to deal enough damage to reliably rack up kills, it could actually see some viability by remaining on the field for a while, since Beast Boost doesn't help it out much. Trick Room support would be a great help for Guzzlord as well.

Some of these Pokemon just need straight upgrade/exclusive abilities tailored for them. Guzzlord could get a one that biting moves gain lifesteal or something. Blacephelon could get something that works with its signature move mind blown such as gaining a calm mind or amnesia buff when hitting half hp. With how unique ultra beasts are i think they deserve their own extremely quirky gimmicks

If you ever played Pokerogue, which is a fanmade roguelike, every 'mon in that has a "passive" that has to be unlocked. These passives function as a second ability. and wouldn't you know it, Kartana's passive is sharpness (and omfg it's so busted.) these are what the unlockable abilities for the ultra beasts are in Pokerogue (except Blacephelon because I have yet to obtain one, so I don't actually know what its passive is) Nihilego: Levitate (negates its 4x ground weakness) Buzzwole: Moxie (so it can get +2 attack instead of +1, or get +1 attack and +1 defense) Pheromosa: Tinted Lens (greatly improves the usefulness of its bug moves which otherwise are commonly resisted, especially useful against fairy which resists both of its STABs) Xurkitree: Transistor (gives its electric moves an additional 1.5x boost on top of its STAB) Celesteela: Heatproof (mitigates its fire weakness) Kartana: Sharpness (incredibly busted, boosts most of its arsenal by 1.5x. seriously this thing is a menace) Guzzlord: Innards Out (because of Guzzlord's massive HP, Innards Out has very high damage potential) Naganadel: Sheer Force (boosts any of its moves that can produce a secondary effect such as poisoning, pretty solid) Stakataka: Solid Rock (reduces the supereffective damage it takes) Blacephelon: ??? Buzzwole's moxie is the only one that doesnt really work in a normal setting, since its only by virtue of Pokerogue allowing the pokemon you start with to have two abilities that its good. I'd prefer if Guzzlord got a unique ability. Maybe a combo of Thick Fat, Gluttony and Recycle that grants it an omni-boost in all stats except speed when it eats a berry and then it recycles the berry if it KOs a Pokemon. It would really give Guzzlord a niche in just being an absolute menace and fitting its terrifying world ending status as shown in the anime. As for Pheromosa maybe a combo of Queenly Majesty and Multiscale since I imagine her body is much tougher than it appears given the cockroach design. Well at least for one attack. After taking damage Pheromosa would lose her cool and take normal damage when not at 100% HP. I think it would fit her well. I think the Ultra Beasts would benefit a lot from having unique abilities if Gen 9 can give something like Bloodmoon Ursaluna 3 abilities in one just for existing. Ultra Beasts are so alien they can have their own unique ability.

Strong Jaw would have both boosted Guzzlord's Crunch, one of it's better STAB dark moves, and fit it perfectly thematically, although I guess with how much it eats thick fat works too Sharpness fits Kartana perfectly, and at first, I thought that your backup, Hyper Cutter, wouldn't work because it's description says that it's for pokemon with pinchers, but with the way Kartana can put its blades together, I'd say it was a pretty good choice, so overall, great choices here Both Blacephalon and Xurkitree would fit the Illuminate ability, but that's pretty useless in battle, so I would probably stick with your choice for Blacephalon. Galvanize would be pretty good for Xurkitree. Stakataka could also get Rock Head, but that would be even more useless that illuminate, although Solid Rock would be great as it reduces super effective attack power, and Stakataka definitely suffers with it's multiple 4x weaknesses. Sturdy also works pretty well though. Nihilego obviously works well with Levitate, but Toxic Debris would work too as well as possibly Poison Point. For Pheramosa, I think that Speed Boost would work, as the anime, it's stats, and it's movepool promote how speedy it is, and it would be very good for this pokemon, as in a few turns it could outspeed everything, making its only weakness priority moves, which is ironic as that's what Queenly Majesty, the ability given to it in the video, prevents. I think that Queenly Majesty is very fitting, and very good, but it is also the signature ability of Tsareena, and I wouldn't want to take that away, although that has been done in the past. As for Celesteela, I guess since its based on bamboo, it could get a common ability for grass types, like overgrow or Sap Sipper. It could also get Wind Rider to combat pesky Heat Waves, but overall I think Flare Boost would be way better. For Buzzswole, I don't think I can really beat your abilities. I think that, since it is an evolution, Naganadel should be able to take Poiple's Poison Point and Levitate, as those would be very good and also make just as much, and maybe even more sense on Naganadel. Compound Eyes would make sense, but would absolutely suck.

I'd give Stackatacka Multiscale. Partly because far too many Pokémon have Sturdy, and partly because it's whole thing is that it's made of multiple different objects. (That are kinda scale-like.) And, while it's a terrible ability, Big Pecks would fit Buzzwole quite well thematically. Big Pecks is a pun ability, (large pectoral muscles, and large pecks from a beak.) No Pokémon has bigger or more prominent pectorals than Buzzwole, and it does have a huge proboscis.

You were correct. The fangame Pokerogue gave Kartana Sharpness as a passive, making it incredibly strong. But Sharpness is its passive, and in that game Passives are bonus unlockable abilities that stack with Abilities, making it so Kartana gets Beast Boost and Sharpness combined, so it just becomes totally unfair.

How about creating new abilities for each that fit the theme of the pokemon? Guzzlord -> Greedy eater; physical attacks steal and consume the opponent's held item, restoring HP. The restoration value would be similar to Fling's damage value and it would activate barries effects in addition to the restoration value. Kartana -> Wax seal; Nullifies the first fire attack to hit. Wax paper. Blacephalon -> Strobe; All attacks have a 10% chance to flinch. The dude looks like a disco clown, give it some strobe lights. Xurkitree -> Recharge; Using an Electric type move restores HP. Basically leftovers but only when you use Electric moves. Stakataka -> Immovable Object; High defense halves the damage of Fighting and Ground attacks. 3 combined boosts to Defense and Special Defense turn the 4x weaknesses into a 2x. Nihilego -> Doomed Aura; Stats cannot be raised, only lowered and all stat changes are inverted. If Haze and Contrary were a constant field effect, also it would be subject to Zygarde's Aura Break ability which would make it one of 3 Pokemon Zygarde's ability actually effects. Pheremosa -> Terror Aura; Priority is inverted. Simple as and self explanatory. Also subject to Aura Break. And people can pretend all they want, she looks like a roach. Celesteela -> Otherwordly Vitality; If knocked out, revives the Pokemon with half HP. I get that it's supposed to be a rocket ship but all I see is Princess Kaguya and Bamboo. If you know the story of the Bamboo Cutter and the Moon Princess then you get where I'm coming from. Buzzwole -> Vampire; Physical hits restore health. Again like leftovers but it's on making physical contact, it would trigger multiple times for multi hit attacks like Rocky Helmet does. And what's more thematic for a Mosquito? Naganadel -> Polluting Charge; Using a Poison type attack sets terrain. This thing is supposed to have "Hundreds of liters" of poison, so have a poison attack create a poison field effect that acts like 1 layer of toxic spikes. Different set condition, different clear condition, like weather effects.

I was thinking if it wasn’t already said elsewhere that Dazzling wouldn’t be terrible for Blacephalon, not as good as others but for what it’s shown as in media and how it loves to outspeed it’d be decent to have priority be blocked as an answer into it, and could make it slightly better in doubles without being broken or unreasonable, nor even a direct upgrade to damage but rather limiting answers and making something like scarf or web support better and forcing specific answers like Heatran, which are still just good Pokémon in that case. The doubles part being from what I read, that Dazzling not only blocks priority into the user, but into allies as well, meaning it not only prevents shadow sneak and sucker punch from affecting it, but passively blocks prankster and fake out in doubles

For poipole and naganadel, give them contrary. When evolving, poipole turns upside-down (poipole's head becomes naganadel's body) just like Inkay into Malamar. It may be OP with DracoMeteor but I feel like it fits thematically

For Blacephalon maybe regenerator since it always makes a new head and could give the player a reason to actually use its signature move. For Xurkitree it would be cool to see electric surge since it’s connected to the ground when you first encounter it in a wormhole

Pokerogue has additional abilities called "passives" that you can unlock for a pokemon, and kartana does get sharpness!! And thats WITH beast boost.

I feel Guzzlord could benefit well from strong jaw, makes crunch an actual good stab move, helps coverage with the fang moves and fits well considering it’s 90% mouth. Kartana honestly does not need sharpness, it’s already a phenomenal banded mon if you give it permanent choice band it would make it too unhealthy for most meta games. Honestly I really like hyper cutter for vgc as preventing intimidate is a pretty vital ability. Blacephalon I can imagine having flash fire, again not an amazing ability because I do not think it needs any ability better than beast boost but flash fire would allow it to pivot in on strong fire type moves, not only acting as a safe switch to hit powerful specs boosted moves but also would serve to boost the damage of mind blown and other fire type options Xurkitree I think motor drive is very fitting, plays well into its kit and honestly probably wouldn’t help too too much in similar regards to Electivire in old gens where the electric move simply isn’t consistent enough. Stakataka I don’t think needs sturdy, I would honestly prefer an option such as solid rock which could help it function better as a consistent tank for moves. There’s an argument for analytic which would be potent, and is commonly given to steel types but I don’t quite see it Levitate on Nihilego, a mon that would probably see OU usage nowadays anyways is too extreme personally. I feel an ability like clear body while not as strong would be more balanced as it is already such a strong mon Queenly majesty is a very strong ability, as Farigiraf is was high in usage for a while due to it. However, this is because of Farigiraf’s excellent bulk, mons such as Bruxish and Tsareena are much less used when sharing the same nuts ability and still more bulky than Pheromosa

You did exactly what I thought for Guzzlord, Kartana with Sharpness would have a nuclear leaf blade and make smart strike actually good, Blacephalon I'm not sure, Xurkitree could have dazzling, it fits the theme, Stakataka does not have 131 attack lol, but yeah, sturdy makes sense, Nihelego could have corrosion, I think it fits, Pheramosa what you gave makes sense and would definitely keep it in ubers, I actually would really like to see flare boost on other pokemon so yes, Guts definitely makes sense, Sniper if it got focus energy would make it super Kingdra

I agree with your ideas. Queenly Majesty on Pheromosa and Flare Boost on Celesteela were clever. For Nihilego, I would propose Corrosion, Merciless, or Poison Puppeteer, the signature ability of Pecharunt. Nihilego has been known to influence people and Pokémon. I would consider giving Naganadel Corrosion or Merciless.

i agree with most of them, theme wise strong jaw fits guzzlord more but intimidate is better competitive wise. guts for buzz is excellent because the 1/2 attack from burn no longer applies. for blacephalon flare boost would have been nice if it wasn’t fire type. maybe something like unburden or regenator so it could nuke. i think unburdened would be better sense it’s so fragile. get in do massive damage die and deal with the consequences later. maybe with a grassy seed it can blow up 3 times. just need something to boost said damage so it can one shot

@@MattBudYT while that is good the reason i mentioned the seed is that it procs first. if blace is initially slower its fragility will be exploited easier, i think its goal is literally to get in and blow up. a defense boost might allow it to live to get a second round off assuming the first one doesn’t kill. but that does give me the idea of giving it dazzling which is a clone of queenly majesty. both act as speed control in its own way. although physic terrain allows the use of both. grass terrain also weakens several ground type moves as well so a seed just works better imo because the mon isn’t used for bulk and at most get two attacks off regardless of seed or sitrus because hp is just fodder. i wonder which version works best competitively, which can only be answered by seeing how much hp is saved via boost vs hp restored with a mix of damage it can effectively cause.

With Blacephalon, I think I have a good ability for them. Blaze. It would power up all of Blacephalon's Fire type attacks when low on HP (33%). I feel like it kind of works with Mind Blown, because Mind Blown deals half the beast's max health. I would probably give Blacephalon an altered version of Blaze, however. It would activate at 50% HP, instead of 33%. It's not like there aren't abilities that are identical to each other while having different names.

Honestly sharpness would be worse than kartana haviing a second beat boost. Great for immediate and reliable damage but the beast boost comes in handy and racks up over time. Really depends on how you want to play.
