I had ruled out the Nymphes based on watching other videos, but watching your explorations changed my mind. You approached this from a very different standpoint. You tried to make this thing your own, instead of obsessing about how close ot a Juno you could make it. You did some cool, experimental modulations, like with the lfo subtly affecting the frequency that nobody else bothered with. And you just made it SOUND different. I SO appreciate this video. Liked and subscribed.

Honestly, Benn's vid is the same reason I picked it up as well. Other reviews/demos on KZbin were kind of lame. Only using it for ambient stuff is a complete abuse of this wonderful little box. The presets kinda suck too, but they're whatever. I don't buy an analog synth with all these parameters just to stick to presets anyway. It's definitely a worthwhile little synth.

Do you still succeed in sound designing 1 year after ? Despite the limited UI ?@@ShamskyDoggo

Agreed. Kinda looking for something unique as well. Got something else but almost bought this one cause it was impressive
@calcairecamhi8 ай бұрын
@@CarlitoProductions Well I bought it and I'm very happy! The UI has been easy to learn. It's still way better than my Blofeld and it's four pots for 10000 menus. Ofc the options and the sounds are totally different on both units otherwise. What did you by then ? I bought the Nymphes as my first analog polysynth. Truth is I never played any other analog poly, just a few mono like Matriarch, Sub37, Korg Minilogue and Behringer's Moog
@moistpeanut59862 жыл бұрын
What is amazing to me is they gave us 6 voices. There have been too many 4 voice synths, that not enough for a traditional 2 hand chord voicing. As a pianist having 6 is the very minimum every poly synth should have. And the size is just a huge plus too, most 6+ voice synths are usually huge.
@inkajoo2 жыл бұрын
I never thought about that but you're so right. 5 notes + bass.
@kinetic-cybernetic2 жыл бұрын
To me also as a pianist it's cool to think of the synth as a different thing - piano and organ are made to produce bass, harmony and melody at the same time, but with a synth it's more common to program a specific bass sound, a specific harmony sound and a specific melody sound. That's why I'm ok with 4 voices polys but I'd be definitely open to exploring using 2 of those 3 elements at the same time and with the same sound.
@Fawdz2 жыл бұрын
Very well said, I absolutely NEED two voices for octave or fifths bass, and four for some jazz chords on the treble end. I had a Sequential Take 5 for a bit and ultimately sold it because I was tired of the voice stealing.
@calcairecamhi11 ай бұрын
I do play basses with my feet and (try) two different melodies with my hands, or chords+melody. I that case, 6 falls a bit short, 8 is minimum. Anyway, I'd be satisfied with the Nymphes (despite the terrible UI), first bcuz it sounds marvelous, second having limits tickles creativity, eh ?@@Fawdz

@@rookmaster7502 Everything is relative. For an analog polyphonic synthesizer this thing is most definitely cheap, especially considering it's 6-voice, while alternatives like the Minilogue and Poly D only have four voices. Deepmind 6 is the only one I can think of that has the same number of voices at a similar price point. Nymphes still costs less (here in the EU at least) than all of those mentioned, except for the (4-voice) OG Minilogue.

Whenever I see a new musical device I immediately Google its price tag to see if it's GAS worthy. When I saw that it was $599 my GAS was deflated like an old balloon. Then I heard it perform and the balloon instantly inflated again. In fact, it burst! The Nymphes has got an amazingly BIG synth sound, so I have to agree that it does have potential, especially for those of us with limited (read crowded) space. If you're a minimalist then you must be in 7th heaven thinking about the possibilities it can afford you. I was truly amazed! Thanks for your review!

Dreadbox kills it every time. I have the Typhon - monosynth with 32 step sequencer and stereo digital effcts by Sinevibes - and it slaps. A little cheaper than the Nymphes, but sounds incredible and has a wealth of possibilities. Worth checking out.
@InnerVisions682 жыл бұрын
I have many synths, and it is one of my very favorites. I agree. It’s fantastic. Imagine a polyphonic, four to six-voice version of the Typhon, with effects by Sinevibes, and matching knob-based interface, maybe a screen with four times the overall area (twice as wide, twice as tall), in both a module, and a keyboard version, with aftertouch. Being able to modulate effects parameters as part of patches on the Typhon is badass, too. Not just presets assigned to patched, but being able to use effects parameters as modulation destinations, sourced by the LFO, for instance, is a great feature, as well.

@@InnerVisions68 the fact that with all those features, it is also USB powered is a game changer. @InnerVisions682 жыл бұрын
@@matthewpeterscello I feel you 100%. Same. I have a nice powerbank and headphones, and can sit in the park and even just tweak patches - turn knobs and tweak the effects parameters sliders. Typhon is special. It’s a gem and a treasure. And, for others reading this, I am not a shill. 😂 Try one, buy one, and you will experience how special it is, and what an amazing value it is. And now that USB that can power it via power bank, and, of course, that can transmit MIDI, can also send digital audio directly to your DAW. And blah blah blah. It’s a badass. Buy one, Benn. 👌🏼

No. The best polysynths out there have at least two fully (phase and frequency) independent oscillators per voice as well as phase independent voices. This one would perform very similar to a poly Roland SH-1, which is not bad at all, but certainly is lacking many features and could not compare to a Prophet 5 or an OB-X8 at all. Even the Roland Jupiter 8 (yeah, the 1980's version) doesn't sound alive without at least a small amount of reverb.
