I'm up with one of my all-time favourites. Bennie And The Jets. I once posted this song (it's on the video response) on my other channel (EltonJohnGigs) with a view from the side. I thought I should also post it on here so that you can collect the keys I'm playing. As mentioned before I posted this video on my other channel and therefore you'll get the same description:
One of my all-time favorite songs by Elton. It's so different to anything else he has made and to what anybody else has made. It's one of the few songs which is completely recognizable from the very first chord (Bm/G). I can't get enough of this song when Elton's playing this solo. It's so awesome and the 'In The Mood' section he had added since the 1980's is so cool.
The song first appeared on the 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' album from 1973 and was released as a single in 1974. Elton was actually against to release that particular song as single as he never thought it would be a hit. Ironically, this song is one og Elton's most popular songs. The song got to number one and Elton was the first white artist to appear on 'Soul Train' with this song and also 'Philadelphia Freedom'.
I've tried to copy some of the riffs and there's no particular period I've got influenced by during this (perhaps the 1999/2000 solo tour), but I've collected some riffs from Elton's piano styles through the years which gave me the inspiration to this.
So tell me what you think and enjoy the video!

You're too good at playing to make covers on a dig piano. This would be so much better on an acoustic piano, especially that Steinway if you get the chance to play it again. Roland p4 is OK for practice, but at your level you need a better piano. Thanks for the covers. Eric

Elton plays on an empty grand hooked up to a digital piano rackmount live.
@jordan6988
@jordan6988 5 жыл бұрын
@@rsmh9908 absolutely 100% incorrect. Elton plays on REAL yamaha CFIII heavily modified with pick-ups for MIDI. He plays and hears that piano hes playing. Its a working grand piano he got from a univeristy in 1994 here in California. It has MIDI which allows it to be layered with other instruments his grand piano is not mic'd because his monitors are so loud it would create insane feedback. His MIDI sound consists of a Roland MKS-20 Digital Piano (Rack unit) which brings out that really bright piano sounds you hear it really good when he plays higher on the keyboard he also has a Technics Rack unit which is another Electric piano sound and a Yamaha Motif ES-8 for the Authentic grand sound. Im not sure if he upgraded from the ES8 yet but those 3 layered together are creat his piano sound but like I said his grand is a real working 9ft grand.
@rsmh9908
@rsmh9908 5 жыл бұрын
It's not "100% incorrect." I'm a sucker for technical detail, but everything you listed can be summed up with "digital rackmount." I know he's playing a real grand piano. Empty grand was just an easier way of saying that it's not mic'd up, really. I don't think he's upgraded from the ES-8, his set-up sounds very similar if not identical to his 1997 shows.
@jordan6988
@jordan6988 5 жыл бұрын
@@rsmh9908 true. Not sure if hes upgraded from the es8 or has gone to the new motif. Back in the 90s he used an Alesis NanoPiano before upgrading to the ES-8 love the alesis sound too lol he has a very unique sound that cuts through the mix so powerfully. The higher range where you can really hear that MKS sing is amazing lol I use my yamaha p45 as a controller to my pc through my DAW I purchased Omnisphere/Keyscape it has all the samples of the MKS-20 and Yamaha's C7 and bunch of other badass keyboards but layering the MKS and C7 and using a compressor and ever so slight Delay I almost have EJ's sound prefected. Ill have to make a video playing Bennie or Your Song to demo it! Im yet to see a video on youtube of it!! Always cool to talk to another Tech junkie lol
