I still remember those days 30 years ago when i was an Airborne Trainee wannabe Paratrooper back then.I have tears of pride that these guys go through now remembering that i used to be one of them once upon a time as a young Infantryman.Honestly down deep in my soul i never wanted to fail Jump School because my Dad,Uncles, and Brothers graduated from that great and fine school.I did not want to fail my family and the guys i went through with.It is always pride of being a Paratrooper that kept me going.I had to do it myself and i did. When i got to my unit i did every jump and enjoyed being a Paratrooper being in the unit.Yet the Army had other plans for me in other places.Yet being a Paratrooper is always the best experience of my life until i leave this earth. My Airborne Infantry unit is still my other family for life as my Brothers. But Ummmmm. The Company C.O. and 1SG to include the BC and Battalion SGM will always be above me.I am still one of their Paratroopers...AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!!!

Thanks for the video. My son is in the Army. When he completes AIT he will be headed to Airborne training then off to RASP. I think he has both the mental and physical toughness. On his 17th B day he went sky diving at 17 1/2 he completed a marathon. I hope he maintains his toughness and completes it. Thank you to everyone serving and that have served. Without all of you we wouldnt be the greatest Nation on the planet.

Today, the 34 feet tower is done before the PLF training because a lot of people tend to quit during the 34 feet tower so they try to get rid of people quickly as possible

So people asking why Marines are there is because it's open to all branches of the military. Those going through Navy Seal training go here right after BUDS to get airborne qualified and Marines that are in recon and wish to go into force recon must be airborne qualified as well so there are going to be a lot of recon marines at Airborne school as well. Also Airborne school is probably the least challenging school for infantry MOS'. It can be scary if you hate heights but in terms of difficulty it's a breeze.

That's because the main thing is safety. They ride your ass a little bit, but it's really not anything compared to even basic. The airborne units are a different story.

Also, the 34-foot towers were designed because Army shrinks discovered if you had a hidden fear of heights it would manifest at that height; something about the attitude to the ground and the view from that height. I know we washed some surprising folks out after only one trip through the 34-foot tower. The 250-foot tower sold me even more than I was already on the ambition to jump.

The ones straight out of basic don't fail its always the people (that includes all branches) that are already years in and have been in garrison that fail because they don't prepare themselves. It's a lot of running, and endurance overall. Class of August 2003.

I had a friend who made it all the way through basic and jump school at Ft. Benning, GA. back in the eighties. He said some people didn't make it through jump school for fear of heights and some were just not ready to take their military stay to a higher level. He was surprised to see some West Point Cadets taking the course too.

I mean no disrespect, and I am assuming that you either are not military or were not military when you did that run. A 10 minute mile run is considered absolutely pathetic. I would give you 3-6 months to fix yourself, then remove you from my flight, and the Air Force if no one else wants you. Also, while it may have been an error, you said "a mile" and the test is 2 miles - the Army default.

just for females. This is only a test to enter the course. trust me they would not even be sent to the school if they could not pass their respective services pt test which usually require up to and above 40 pushups for females. Airforce candidates actually go to a 6 week pre ranger school which basically sets you up for success because its an expensive school to go to for the military

Also I had a girlfriend I would call at the end of the day, and that pissed people off to the extreme! My roommates claimed that I was waking them up coming back in, which I get. The only problem was that on the days I didn't call, the stayed up until 8 or so (I called close to right after dismissal). There's no doubt some of those guys were ultra pissed I had a girlfriend, which I understand. At the same time I had fun in college, and I'm proud of my wings, so I felt It was worth it. The school sharpened by basic military skills and toughened me up some. Yes everyone says its "easy." Im sure for enlisted fresh out of basic it is a cakewalk. But if you're an ROTC cadet who writes papers all week and parties on the weekends, it may be a struggle (it was for me lol). I got to go to Airborne due to my grades. Grades don't translate to practical skills though. That takes training and experience, which I had to catch up with fast.
