Great video! That screen looks fantastic on the Lynx! Glad to see the Lynx finally get some lovin' from the replacement screen scene.

The McWill has been out for years, but the price always put me off. Ben is also working on a Game Gear variant.

I hope it gets a decent amount of interest for Ben. He knows the Lynx market isn't huge; but put the time/effort in anyway. (Read: you know where that Share button is Neil :p )

I wish they had a kit for the gamecom. It desperately needs a better screen. It's probably just me and maybe 3 other people that want it but what the heck.

Great video, as usual. Although I had to watch twice - distracted by all the goodies on your shelves in the background. The LCD image looks great to me and mod was relatively straight forward. I might have to track down a Lynx for myself.

Ben’s seriously pushing the definition of “drop in” but it’s still the best kit I’ve seen.
@retromachinerepair86435 жыл бұрын
"drop in" means no real soldering needed. This is far from drop in. However I am interested in dropping one into a Lynx and running it for a month and seeing the results.

This project needs to proceed & go viral on Facebook, Instagram, etc! The BennVenn website is appearing to be on pause since October 2019 and has no updates on his Atari Lynx LCD screens. Hopefully someone else can continue on this project & make the install process a more plug & play process...

@MrLurchsThings5 жыл бұрын
Andrew Littleboy Well, mine did primarily because Ben had been using this unit for testing in his own Lynx. He was looking at doing a completely solderless version, but feedback told him that soldering wasn’t a big deal and the solderless version would have lost some functionality.

Thanks for that info! Just today, I took out my Lynx2 that’s been stored safely and has worked great. I accidentally plugged the power ac plug into the headphone jack! When I went to install into the correct power port, and hit the power button, the screen displayed Insert Card, when I reinstalled the game card the game & sounds were functional, but the screen started fading out to a plain light gray blank screen! I also noticed the brightness dial wouldn’t make it bright or dim anymore. However if I hit the backlight button, the screen went off to black as it always has. So, after multiple times on and off, the screen is lit blank light gray & the sounds of the game is functional even the all the control buttons. So, could it be just the lcd? Because I can hear the game sounds and control button commands. The only thing I do remember from other times in the past when the Lynx was working, the screen always had a bright white horizontal line appear as the unit was powering on and then everything was fine. Question to ask, have you ever seen this bright horizontal flash line during powering up the Lynx2? Or was that start up horizontal flash line just an pre indication that my lcd screen was on it’s end of it’s lifespan? Maybe the BennVenn would do the trick?

Interesting you didn't use any flux on the board when attaching the new leads. (Not wrong; just interesting.)

Flux core solder contains flux, more than enough for simple solder jobs like this. Flux can help but this isn't a situation you'd typically use it
