Benny Hill is a comedic LEGEND! His comedy skits were hilarious. When his shows came to the USA in 1979, it was MUST see TV!

In Oakland California, Benny Hill came on after the 10 O'Clock News. I watched him while my Dad watched The Untouchables, which I watched the last 30 minutes of as Benny Hill was on for 30 minutes. Both were staples in our household ✊🏿

@David John Yeah, tell that to the folks who made Cheers, Taxi, Saturday Night Live, M*A*S*H, I Love Lucy, Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Carol Burnett Show, Young Frankenstein, the Pink Panther series, etc., etc., etc. Sheesh!
@cjmarshall02214 жыл бұрын
@David John Who writes the best comedy is strictly subjective. What one person finds funny, another person will not. If you prefer British comedy, that's fine. I discovered Benny Hill in my dorm at college, quickly became a fan, and introduced it to the rest of the gang. Benny became a must-see at 11 p.m. each night. We had a great time. HOWEVER - your contention that "the yanks aren't very good with comedy" is baloney! I stand by the examples I cited, and could provide a dozen more, if your interested. If you don't like the stuff we produce here in the U.S. that's your right. But to say that we aren't very good with comedy is just bull.

@@raylumin8708 The original poster - who I replied to - pulled his comments, causing a bit of confusion. In my previous post, located above, I listed lots of of U.S. comedies, in response to his contention that "the yanks aren't very good with comedy." Which we both know is absolutely bullshit! We've produced lots of classic comedies, many of which are loved the world over.

such a shame this brilliant Comedian, was cancelled, after bringing in huge ratings. Seems some members of the public complained about the Angels, and double entendres. Looking at them now, just silly funny humor. The women on his show, more than often, gave it back to him, equally. But thankfully, we have these clips of his show, to still laugh and enjoy. Have to admit, he did great impressions, of those TV Detectives.
@stickman17422 жыл бұрын
It's a common misconception that Benny Hill was canceled because of some public complaints. Hill's show was canceled by the networks that didn't want the public getting any risque content on free tv anymore, instead pushing them to buy expensive cable channels. Almost any time the networks cancel these kinds of things it is solely because they are trying to force people to buy the same content at a higher price.

LOL, yes, there were multiple levels of humor on this that come at you fast, and you have to watch a couple of times at least. I saw this in the 1980s originally as a kid and liked the 1970s spot-on detectives impersonations, but the dialogue is fantastic, and the absurd references to Quinn Martin produced shows, like the third-rate fictitious "Oregon Express" a cheap ripoff of the Orient Express, and the closing credits of "Martin, Barton, Larton, and FAR-go Production". Benny also pulls off credible American accents. Brilliant stuff!
