In this review I will be comparing both the BenQ GW2760HM display and the BenQ GW2760HS. Both models are based around a VA-based 1920x1080 pixel panel and feature LED backlighting, DVI, HDMI and VGA input, as well as audio in and out. An internal power supply, a VESA mount, a detachable stand and an easy to use onscreen display.
The GW2760HM is a great display as it features a very common and sophisticated resolution of 1920x1080 pixel with a diagonal of 27 inches.
In comparison to the newer GW2760HS it is a little thicker, taller and has one downside: dimming the brightness of the LED backlight is achieved by turning the backlight on and off at a very fast rate (let's assume around 400Hz). Where as the GW2760HS now features a flicker-free backlight which is dimmed by decreasing the brightness properly without a PWM modulation.
Advantages of the new GW2760HS: smoother and more fluid motions across the screen (user interface windows in your personal operating system, for example). The decreased bezel size also helps if you are using more than one of the same display with your computer to create a better experience.
A few facts that I found out when comparing both displays:
- The GW2760HS has a lower contrast ratio (1402.3:1) at the same brightness (150cd/m²) compared to the GW2760HM (1793.6:1).
- The GW2760HS is smaller in physical size while keeping the same display measurements. A smaller stand, less tall and slimmer in all aspects.
- The GW2760HS seems to have a better and more evenly lit black screen.
My personal opinion: The first time I used the GW2760HM I was impressed with the display's performance at the given price point. I've owned excellent displays from Eizo, Fujitsu and Apple before, so I do have a certain requirement when it comes to display quality. When I got the newer GW2760HS, I was impressed again. My personal favorite is now certainly the GW2760HS as it's going to be much more relaxing for my already rather imperfect eyes and the slim bezel really kicks in visually when you're sitting in front of it.

+northernjack64 Thank you for your question. The dynamic contrast ratio is actually just a number game and can only be achieved by the smart electronics altering the brightness of the panel in between each single frame. Thus dynamic. The contrast ratio I measure is a constant, fixed setting (brightness in this case at 150cd/m2) and without the technical helpers. If you are looking at a single image that has both 100% black and 100% white within the same image, you will be able to see this full contrast ratio (brightness of pixel when 100% white divided by brightness of pixel when 100% black) in play. If you read 3000:1 this makes sense - and is dependent on the screen being run at full brightness (100% backlight). Using 120-150cd/m2 is more like 30-45% backlight brightness and thus you will get less measurable contrast ratio. However, it is not recommended to run a monitor at 100% brightness unless you use it in direct sunlight. A working environment should be around 120-140 cd/m2

I just bought the gw2760HM today, and FYI, there is NO FLICKER. My Wacom cintiq by comparison showed flicker when filmed at anything other than 50 and 100 shutter speed. The benQ in question was manufactured in Dec 2015, so they must have fixed something since this video. Just letting people know who are thinking of buying.

I keep using the GW2760HS as my main display. Doing 3D CAD, gaming, video editing and general web work. I can't say that I ever felt that it was slow in response. Sure, it's not a high speed TN panel, but it's very quick when you do anything. And I've had displays that are worse. When working a longer time with those displays, you feel how responsive it is when using it across a broad range of applications.

Yeah I can always find just the right distance for the screen if I start seeing the pixels too much. I've ordered my own GW2760HS but might have to wait until next week for it to arrive. It'll be an exciting moment when it's time to pack it up.

The two main steps in display calibration are as follows: 1) setting (calibrating) your display with modifications to RGB values to have it show white with a temperature as close as possible to 6500K. 2) letting the software measure the display (profiling) with the color temperature AS IS (not letting the profile change it again) which then corrects for a linear grey balance and making sure that all shades of grey from 0-255 are NOT colored in any color, but pure grey. so yeah,would be correct

I've been sitting in front of my own new GW2760HS now over the evening and am really happy. Compared to my old VA panel BenQ BL2400 everything is at least a little better, and I was quite okay with that one actually. I did "steal" its adjustable stand to get a little height adjustment, having a center speaker just under the monitor. Thanks to the improved viewing angles I don't regret having gone for a 27", and 1080p doesn't look too big after all with the quality of the pixels. Text is great.
@florianuhlemann

I connected these BenQ displays with DVI-DVI (using a single link cable). A dual-link cable will work as well though. You can also use a HDMI-HDMI or HDMI-DVI in any direction. HDMI might have some other options compared to the DVI but the same image quality. MacOS will recognize any display just as windows would. (The 2560x1080 display from Dell however wasn't recognized via HDMI1.4 in MacOS but it worked in Windows. MacOS only showed 1920x1080, but off topic here.)

It's kinda like that. However, CRT monitors and tv's had to have a certain Hz value due to the way they work. However, today we can actually eliminate the need to have a frequency for a steady image as only the backlight is producing the bright light that we see as the image. (filtered through a mosaic of red, green and blue dots) so basically, the GW2760HS might be at a level where we could bring it equal to a DC-glowing light, not flickering at all. Other displays, like HM, are dimming at400Hz

There can can be many reasons why an HDTV might not work as intended. Here's what I do - Make sure the displays native resolution is 1920x1080 - make sure the computer is set to output 1920x1080 - verify a proper frequency is used. Should be 60.0hz or 59.94hz. Never use anything i like 50i or 60i - check tv settings for overscan options and turn them off or down. This is the biggest issue - on a pc or Mac, you sometimes have to turn off overscan as well within the display driver settings

I've owned a 21.5" 1080p before and had 24" as well. Let's say this: the large 27" display is relaxing for your eyes but also introduces colored edges around sharp lines because you can differentiate each single rgb channel per pixel with your naked eye. But the gains are much more than this little nitpick

Here's a profile and display settings for the GW2760HS: uploaded.net/file/ivutwqix 130 cd/m2 with 6500K white. OSD settings are within the text-file and just load the color profile into your OS. Enjoy. (Keep in mind, it's always going to vary between displays and it's not the most perfect color profile ever!)

It's fine. I would think this screen is great for working with text. Due to its large size and non flickering backlight, I haven't had any issues so far. Been working with a lot of code lately and never had sore eyes :) I'd say this would suit your demands quite well. The difference to flickering screens is noticeable.

Viewing angles are VA typical for both. You wouldn't notice a difference. The photographs of the long exposures from the displays show a slight change in contrast when departing from a straight on view as it's a rather large panel. However, VA viewing angles are not as great as IPS or Plasma, but they are still much better when it comes to color accuracy in comparison to TN. Colors remain the same for the most part, contrast goes down a little.
@florianuhlemann
@florianuhlemann 11 жыл бұрын
Personal experience showed that any non TN panel is much better. IPS has best stability overall but I must say that the GW2760 series is great. No coloring of black. Only thing you would notice is a decrease in contrast across the spectrum. But I'm happy and I did own several IPS before

Thank you. What you can expect? Being able to have certainty that your display will show accurate colors and have a defined brightness. Sending you my file wouldn't help as I changed my rgb values to make it 6500K without the profile. The profile only makes sure that all shades of grey are nothing colored. I can recommend a used Spyder3 from eBay. But lots of other devices work. Have you seen my calibration video?

depends on what your priority is. better colors, better image quality (VA) or if you can live with a TN panel (quicker but horrible viewing angles) and you really need the extra 120 pixels of the 1920x1200 display. i consider to be 1920x1080 a standard which is tall enough for work and yet doesn't greet you with black bars anytime you watch a video clip or standardized benchmark ;)

I've been doing rather well with that display in fast shooter games. If you are, however, more into 120Hz or 2ms response rate (watch out for high input lags on some models) then you might not be happy with others. Keep in mind this display has a rather low response rate and very low input lags, which help alot.

Yes. I might not have discovered dispcalGUI otherwise. It looks amazing. I've tried to set the temperature to daylight by hand, I end up with mostly correct looking highlights but a slight purple cast in the shadows (maybe due to WLED backlight?). Just trying to research if it's correctable by colour calibration.

Give it a try. I'm sure you like the GW2760HS ;) OLED displays are nice, of course. Got one on my PS Vita. What I find weird is that when it's totally black, it has some awkward structures across the display, like it's broken. But you can't see it when you look at something, only a true black screen like when it's going from one scene to another and you have to look at an angle.

Thanks for this excellent comparison. I was hoping that BenQ were coming out with a 24 inch "HS" model, but it seems that they wont so I'm definitely considering the GW2760HS. You cleared out any remaining questions I was having about the monitor. Although this model is also said to have better viewing angles (less contrast shift), it might not be that important. Perhaps it's enough to compensate going from 24 to 27 inch. Any experiences on that part would always be interesting of course.

Well, I think the GW2760HS is wonderful on your eyes. Been using it since I've done the unboxing and I'm very happy. also have the GW2760HM, but only using it for PS3, laptop work, etc. And you can see the difference if you're used to the HS. I had a Syncmaster before, the 120Hz, 27" 1080p and was disappointed big times. Horrible OSD, buttons, etc... Picturewise it wasn't too good either. The SA950 is an IPS offspring (PLS) right? So color-wise it should be a notch better than the VA.

IPS panels are great. period ;) AMOLED is similar to plasma by design (oled display). 6bit panel would show extreme banding, so I really don't think it's a problem - as it's probably something in the control of the display with 6bit only. i'll have a look at it. nope, can#t find anything negative abou that one. it's even supposed to be less glimmering than other IPS, so you're good to go if you like the 24" better with 1920x1200 ;)

IPS is superior to VA. ;) and LG IPS displays are really great. had a 1600x1200 ips from LG before as well - and did love it. IPS are a little slower (1ms or so^^) than VA, VA has better blacks, but the contrast ratio decreases when departing from a 90° angle. so if you like to have 1920x1200 with IPS, than that's fine. but its smaller ;) I picked the 27" because of the size with 1920x1080. Didn't work out for me with those small pixel when I keep my displays at 50-70cm away from my eyes.

AH-IPS with 2ms? doesn't sound like they are being honest ;) pixel response time doesn't tell you what the monitor has in terms of input lag. I found both GW2760 models from BenQ to be very quick in terms of input lag, I do not know what the Asus has. You could do some research on that. Well, if prices are equal, IPS is of course the better panel technology, but you will have to look up a review and check if you find anything negative.

I currently have a GW2750HE and I'm looking for a second screen. Since the 2750 isn't available anymore would you say the GW2760HE is a good purchase to use as a second screen? Apparently the 2760 has a A-MVA panel compared to a PVA panel on the 2750. Also the static contrast ratio is 3000:1 on the 2760, but 5000:1 on the 2750. Do these two factors make much of a difference or will both screens be almost identical? Thanks in advance

Question regarding the HS, I currently have a GL2750H and for the life of me, I'm somewhat disappointed with the screen boot up, it takes like ~5 seconds for the screen to come to life compared to my Dell which turns on almost instantaneously. Hello! Great Review! I had a BL2410PT and I hated black crush, is 2760HS anything better on that? Or maybe there is a way to fix or hide it?

So, i can find the HM for around 189€, and the HS for 215€. Is the HS worth the extra cost for you?

ComandanteJ I'd say yes as well as it's not that big of an extra and the slimmer bezel is a totally different game. sure, the panels are equal now as they "upgraded" the HM flicker-free as well.

I finally got the HM, i cant compare it with the HS, but it's much better than my previous 1050p TN from Hanns.G, so i'm very happy with it, blacks look stunning, and it's so bright that i keep it a 40% backlight, and it's just as bright as my previous CFL TN.

MfG Dario

I was thinking about EIZO too, had old CRT one, great one, 19''...but the price is almost double, which I do not know if I want to spend that much. I think not. Work with video, this one HS, should be very good for the price, right?

Tea set Well, the GW2760HS has a slimmer bezel around the screen, which makes it more attractive and stylish. Current models are identical technical-wise, so it doesn't really matter. When I reviewed them, the GW2760HS was better as it was flicker-free - but they both are now. Still, I'd pick the GW2760HS.

ComandanteJ I doubt it. I wouldn't even recommending running one HS profile on another HS display 😉 Panels are similar, difference in backlight control. Could work, but wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for the reply. As i have a real serious problem that i cant pin point Ive tried dosens of screen in my life. I will admit of a serious weird even neurological issue with sitting infront of a screen. It affects me so that its like worse then headache. Its like my mind get dissy and i also hear high pitch sound. Any way god know whats my problem. The only thingi notice is that with my oled phone in totaly cool. I will concider trying this monitor and really hoping this will be my savior

Kevin Blanco I'm very sorry for this happening. Have you cross-checked all possibilities? faulty power cable? faulty video cable? Is the correct input signal selected for the video cable you are using? This display doesn't feature auto-select (or does it?^^ At least I'm not using it on mine) If it still doesn't end up working, you will have to contact your reseller and ask for a replacement as it was DOA (dead on arrival).

+Michael S To be honest, yes, I would. It's a great all-round panel, especially for casual content. Videos and photographs take advantage of the VA panel technology, which is really great!

Hi Florian, I spend the whole day looking for the best monitor for nvidia surround system and as far as i can tell this one is the best possible option in 300euro price range.I want to get 3 of these and run it on gtx780 , but was also thinking if that could be to much for 1 card and if so should i get two 680ti in sli instead ? Of course i might be wrong and if you have any opinion would really appreciate your help. Thanks for this video , it really help me decide what i want.
@florianuhlemann
@florianuhlemann 10 жыл бұрын
I'd say the 780(ti?) should be powerful enough for 3x1080p. Might have to dial a few settings down, but you should be ok. If in doubt of memory power, you could use a 4GB R9-290X as well. But great monitors nonetheless.

hi, great review, would you recomend the GW2760hs for use with a retina Macbook pro and is the screen sharp?
@florianuhlemann
@florianuhlemann 10 жыл бұрын
It's probably horrible in comparison to a retina screen. 1080p on 27" is pretty much the opposite of the MacBook's screen in terms of pixel density. Other than that, it's one awesome monitor to use:)

@florianuhlemann 8 жыл бұрын
+WissCoast Hey man! Thanks for the feedback. If you are after a pure gaming display and understand the downsides of a TN panel, then maybe. But I truly dislike any TN panel and would not recommend it. A cool thing are the new 34" 21:9 curved VA panels with 144Hz. But steep price!
@WissCoast
@WissCoast 8 жыл бұрын
+Florian Uhlemann Thank you for your reply! I'll consider that. I've never had a TN panel before. I'm not really sure how bad is the color compared to IPS panels. I don't know if the fast refresh rate is really worth it, The poor viewing angles is not a problem for me tho
@florianuhlemann
@florianuhlemann 8 жыл бұрын
+WissCoast I've had a few TN panels in the early days and did test some of the current models. They are troublesome to work with in terms of color. If you grab a well designed VA/IPS display (i.e. with low input lag, such as the GW2760HS or current 3440x1440 144Hz VA) you do have about the same quality as with gaming TN panels. if you aren't into professional gaming at hardcore levels, then I wouldn't suggest getting those very specific monitors. I do play games with mine too, and don't think I have a bad setup even for shooters. The refresh rate is really just part of the truth as the only thing that is really measurable to us is the total latency (sum of input lag and refresh rate). There are devices like the Leo Bodnar Tester, and prad does show how this total lag is built up. there are some 1-2ms TN panels that are slower than the 6ms GW2760HS.

@florianuhlemann
@florianuhlemann 10 жыл бұрын
Great idea. Both displays are (in their latest revision) flicker-free and feature the same specs besides a smaller bezel with the HS. (the HS might be guaranteed to be flicker-free, while you could grab an older HM-model that isn't flicker-free yet)... Nonetheless: The GW2760HS is my favorite as the smaller bezel really makes an optical difference and makes it much more attractive to look at. Both have built in speakers and the option to use headphones from the HDMI-audio. I've used my PS3 on both displays without a problem. Althoug they will not have a special 24p optimization that larger plasma TV sets may have.

Hey Florian!! Could i use this particular model along with my PS4? Would it have any input lag? I play mostly FIFA on it. Is it better than the GL2760H which has a TN panel?Thanks in advance:)

@florianuhlemann 8 жыл бұрын
+Pranav Prabhu Hello there! Thank you for your feedback. A VA-panel is certainly more fun to watch and a better experience than a TN panel. The GW2760HS (or even the HM) are excellent displays with very low input lags and thus perfectly fine for Playstation Gaming. I've used mine to play PS3 and PS4 occasionally too and wouldn't mind doing it again. However, I got a 42" Panasonic Plasma for my TV/PS4.

Hello Florian. Can you tell me what is the refresh rate that the monitor BenQ GW2760HS do? 100hz 120hz .. ?? And also the response time ... I think it's 4ms right ?! Thanks for the video! It was a monitor like these I was trying to find!! ;)
@florianuhlemann
@florianuhlemann 8 жыл бұрын
+Pedro Ramada The refresh rate is 60Hz. Response time for the panel technology is around 4-5ms I believe. Keep in mind that the response time does not tell you how quick it will react to the input of your game/video device - though the BenQ GW2760HS/HM are one of the quickest on the market with non-TN panel technology. (In this case it's a VA)

***** I've been using this display for many months now and I can't recommend anything else somehow. I'm looking for a little wider replacement, but due to the combination of price, flicker-free, color reproduction and low inputlag and response times, this is still my favorite monitor / display on the market. And yes, it really does lower the strain on your eyes. It works so obvious, that even when panning your windows around on your desktop, it doesn't jitter like it used to before. Just plain awesome.
