Benriach Peated Quarter Cask. This is a nice little uncomplicated dram that should be in every bar. Easy to drink. I would have this for breakfast everyday if allowed.

Sometimes you just need something to enjoy and not think too much. But you got me on coconut. One of my favorite things to get in a whisky. Cheers🥃

Some people really dislike that coconut note but it doesn't bother me. I agree with you that we should not be so serious about whisky all of the time. I've done whisky for years and years and gone the whole range and back. Today I can appreciate a well made whisky even if it isn't a powerhouse of complexity as long as the price is right. That's a position we accept as normal in the world of bourbon. Great to see you joining in the chat.

Right? I agree. Its a good one to have on your shelf just to bring out for no reason.

@@WhiskeyQuests Welsh Toro is a legend among legends. He has so much whisky knowledge that he's forgotten most of it and yet knows more than us. He is the reason I started making videos again just so that I could exchange banter with him.

Thanks for putting this on the radar again. I've had a bottle in the past but forgot about it. I liked it but the Laphroaig Quarter Cask and, especially, the Kilchoman Quarter Cask made me realise that when it comes to NAS peated quarter casks Islay rules the roost. Just for the record, I've become a big fan of the Speyside peated Old Ballantruan. They have a NAS, 10 and 15 which are all worth trying. (I really like the NAS which I think has some age in it.) Benriach make some great whisky which kind of flies under the radar. Just before the whisky boom they were making epic, well aged, single barrels and I had a bunch of them. Sadly I think they are not what they were under the new management but still worth watching. "Early morning dram." You and I sing from the same song sheet. Cheers. WT

@@MaltActivist Yes, I second that. The Old Ballantruan series are the perfect dram to end the day. @@RebMordechaiReviews Thank you for the links. I had a read through and just managed to get hold of the NAS and the 15 year old which I'll be doing a H2H today. In fact just set up the studio to record it.

Have you tried the unpeated Quater Cask ? The ones available as travel exclusive

Ha Ha Ha. I also bought a BenRiach 20 (in the white and blue can) here in Israel about 5 years ago. It was awful!!! Thank G-d I also ought a BenRiach 16 (old bottling in the white and purple can) which was absolutely wonderful. This Peated QC is quite nice. but as you say, not particularly complex. Have you tried the 18 and 22 Year Old Peated Rum Cask Dunders? Earthy peat, Down at the docks, Ship salty rope, Gunpowder ship oak timber, slightly leathery, slightly waxy, syrupy brown sugar, ripe dates, pomegranates, apple cake, All Spice and sultanas, cinnamon, oaky spices and sweet molasses on the finish.

oooh those sound nice. and no, I haven't tried those. Let me try and get my hands on em.

Circa 2010, almost all releases from Benriach were heavily sherried, and smokey (Formosus)... looks like the industry is bourbon-cask mad . . . nothing gels in early Benriach.
