Love the stories Bruce. Lime Rickeys remind me of home, and my misquided youth. A local burger place used to sell Lime Rickeys - Sprite, fresh lime and a couple squirts of grape syrup over that real small barrel sized ice, the kind that would eventually melt enough to get sucked up the straw. Loved me as a kid so much so as as high schoolers we used to drive the drag, get those then top them off with vodka. The days of misguided youth! Great video Sir. @BarTalkCocktails3 жыл бұрын
Jack is good, but whiskey is whiskey. To use an alternative to whisk(e)y would be to make a completely different tasting drink. You could make a Rickey with a nice rum like Bacardi 10 Year Old Gran Reserva, or an inexpensive Appleton Estate V/X Signature Blend. It wouldn't be a Rickey, but I'm sure it would be tasty. Add some fresh mint and now we're entering Mojito territory. Ha. You could even try subbing out the whisk(e)y for brandy. It's always good to experiment. Say hi to Riky for me. Cheers!

Good stuff. Here in New England the lime Rickey is also a traditional summertime non-alcoholic drink, carbonated water and sweetened lime juice/syrup (some places use fresh lime). Okay, Bruce. I'd heard of the Gin Rickey, of course, but I never tried one. You got me to make a Gin Rickey, and I found out that it's a really excellent drink which I've had a couple of time since I first saw this video. (Not surprising, really, since I was already a guy who frequently drinks seltzer with lime juice.) The lack of sweetener makes it a great thirst quencher, and I think the Gin Rickey might win a showdown against the venerable Collins for summer thirst quenching supremacy. Plus, think of all that vitamin C.

So, I found this cocktail intriguing. I'm a bourbon man almost all of the time. But I will drink a Long Inland Ice Tea if I'm reminiscing about college, or I'll drink a Gin and Tonic that my mother taught me to drink when it's hot outside. I moved to Texas about 6 years ago. I hate the unbearable hot summers like the one we're having now. Therefore after seeing this, I went straight down to the local sports bar and ordered a Gin Rickey and a Bourbon Rickey consecutively. The Gin Rickey was awesome, refreshing, and cooling. Unfortunately, the Bourbon Rickey was a little too spicy to cool my Anti-Texas passion. Mom's going to roll over in her grave, but I'm changing my summer drink. Bartender, it's damn hot outside; make me a Gin Ricky.
