Tow years ago I met the most remarkable girl I've ever known. We had a few months before she started to disappear more and more. During the time we broke up I played a concert at my town and I played this song for her, hoping that she would come. She didn't. She never heard me sing it. And ever simce this song is tainted with the feeling I had on that stage, singing for someone who wasn't listening anymore. Gosh that's corny...

I´m about to drive to my female best friend of almost six years to play this song for her. The last two weeks we came each other very close and last night, we cuddled until we kissed. She is very confused about all that and does not know what to think or feel. I´m just plain in love with her. I was in love with her at the beginning of our friendship, and she didn´t return the feelings. But we got through it. And now, here we are. Something special in both heads. Guys, I just want you to know I love this women more than anything else I have. When i´m with her, I see us settle down, get one or two kids and just be at each others side until the end. I´m sure. I love her. I will give my best and play this song to her. Thank you for this wonderful live. I love you all and wish you just the best in your lives. Wish me everything good you can. Please. Thank you. Bye.

It is simple guitar but sit there and play it naked like this and you’re exposed if you put one little finger wrong! This is one of those songs that come along now and again and strike you to the core…. Exactly a week ago, I lost my dog Cutler. He was this beautiful, beautiful amstaff. One of the big loves of my life. We we're battling a cancer, something that was hurting his lungs so bad. I did all I could. We did. Had to make a donation campaign, you know... To pay all the bills through three different hospitals. It worked like magic! I never had so much people sending donations, sending love and hope. Sharing my letter asking for help. It was a beautiful touching moment. Sadly, even with the best meds I could get, it was his time. He almost died in my arms. We used to walk everyday, in the visit time, on the backyard of the hospital. He was always happy, and the walkings were just good. After the walk, me and Cutler would go back to the resting room (with all other dogs) and lay down on the floor. I'd give him a nice hug, sometimes I prayed with him in my arms, sometimes I just say "hey son, don't worry, you'll be good! This people are taking good care and making sure you'll heal!". Last thursday he got a attack in the walk. Had to take him in my arms and run back to the meds. They took him into oxygen. It was alright again. Than, another attack... Oxygen. Okay for now. Had to leave him, visitation time is up. While I was in the bus back home, got the call. Went home crying all the way. In the bus, at the street, at home. Than sometime this song rose up to me. The lyrics fits like magic. And somehow, it numbs the pain, the poetry donates a bit of hope and sense to my heart, you know? And that's why I thank Snow Patrol for. That's what art is all about.

My wife was diagnosed with heart failure and made it. We lived this as a connection song. She planted a garden of trees when she was well. My severely alcoholic son nearly died and we would lie in be and cry to each other to bed to this when he was so yellow. Then the next year I was diagnosed with stage four cancer and it As a visual provided hope for me. Every time I hear it it makes me a mess, but he spoke to me heart so often.

This is a beautiful song and I just stopped for gas in my SUV. I never gave the song a chance when I heard it on the radio I lost my mom to cancer she had lupus as well now here we are history repeating itself now I'm 36 and I have cancer. I love my beautiful wife Tamela I love my two beautiful children Ethan and Makayla. These are the kind of songsthat make your life so meaningful and Rich no matter how long you have or have short it's going to be I've come a long way in my life from being a songwriter for various musicians such as Jason Mraz and a few other artists that are Christian artists.that was one of my favorite songs that he is overdone simplicity and beautiful lyrics and that's all it is romanticizing just lying there and enjoying each other in the time that God has given us. This in my opinion is his big fish do you understand what I'm saying?

@@rogerblackwood8815 I've dabbled into songwriting a bit and I feel that if you really have something to say, any chords will do. But without emotion, if you're writing a song just for the sake of writing a song it won't sound good on the best chord progression in the world.

Roger Blackwood i think it really is just about the emotion you put into those simple notes or chords and the effects the edge for example uses to create an atmosphere that’s just beautiful

This is by far Gary's most beautiful song. He has throughout the years made some incredible music. Nobody can touch the lyrical talent of this man. If all you've listened to is Snow Patrol please branch out and listen to some of his other musical projects like The Reindeer Section and Tired Pony. He doesn't disappoint in anything he does!

I know that deep inside I am that 10 yr old boy whose still afraid of the dark without the woman I said “I do” . 😕

Just have to say, ... 'No words'! - Just lost a GREAT elderly friend. She lost her beloved husband, best friend a few years ago & has missed him so. She fought cancer & had won the battle, however, recent health complications. She recently passed & this song was played on piano for her at her funeral by her youngest daughter... ONE LAST TIME🙏😇 She would play it for her all the time💕 What a timeless song🙏

sangeeta banerjee it helps create a soundtrack to life. That any specific song at anytime can take u back to a moment and bring with it all the powerful emotions, and vivid details that weren’t necessarily consciously remembered at the time. Ever get that? Can give chills sometimes:)

@@dominicbarratt3433 thanks😊....so true...we relate well to a particular moment or a memory with songs... music searches the soul...soul searches the music that stirs, soothes and haunts it to go back to that moment... off course I do feel them nd the chills too. I don't limit myself to a particular genre or language...I explore a lot...and some get sorted out... it's a huge number but accessible... unlike books or movies.😊😊

This song can have many different meanings and points of views. When I was younger, I thought of it in the point of view of a child watching cars drive by or of dogs chasing after cars. Than when I was a little bit older, I thought about it being about a relationship/crush or death/birth even. Love it no matter what.😗😗

We'll do it all Everything On our own We don't need Anything Or anyone If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? I don't quite know How to say How I feel Those three words Are said too much They're not enough If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life Let's waste time Chasing cars Around our heads I need your grace To remind me To find my own If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world? Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden that's bursting into life All that I am All that I ever was Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see I don't know where Confused about how as well Just know that these things will never change for us at all If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
