As far as I'm concerned, back in the day, Elliott and Liv were both crazy about each other - but BOTH of them were committed in not having Elliott break his marriage vows. I still remember the time Kathy was super- pregnant and Liv was driving her to a medical appointment when her car was broadsided, and Kathy had to be extracted from the car with the jaws of life. In the hospital, after the birth of the baby...when Elliott went to speak to Liv, he moved away from Kathy's room and swung Liv around in a never-to-be-forgotten passionate hug! And in the ensuing years since Elliott's departure - with all the romantic involvements Liv has had, she has never loved anyone as much as Elliott.

He loves her and it's one of the reasons why his marriage was falling apart before he left. If he and Kathy didn't have kids, he would have divorced ages ago. He never physically cheated on his wife and he refused to openly acknowledge he loved Liv for his own peace of mind and sanity, but I think deep down he knew he loved her and he felt rather guilty about it, having wife and kids. I think back in the days he felt, if not knew, that she would reciprocate his feelings even beyond friendship, now he's damn scared he lost her.

I don’t think you’re seeing the full picture. When I was younger I went through a series of very traumatic experiences. He feels guilty and he also feels the necessity to keep his loved ones at a distance to make sure they are safe. PTSD is the worst imaginable condition there is.

I didn't think things would actually be this compelling when Stabler came back. I thought it would be a cool return and reunion to see, but be disappointing overall. But man, the tension and drama here is insane, as is the chemistry between these two. It's such a fascinating back and forth. Both have things they've wanted to say for a decade, but it's never been the right time, and both have so much going on that distracts them from the priorities of the other. Liv wants to get back in, to be there for Stabler, but he's now in protective mode because he's lost so much and doesn't want to risk losing the last person that truly gives his life joy and meaning, especially since Liv has a kid to look after now. So much has changed between them, yet nothing has, and it'll be fascinating to see them both develop apart and then together over time.

April 9, 2021 - If Stabler would have never left, he and Olivia STILL would have just been friends. Why do you and 39 only others belief Elliot and Olivia would be a couple raising Noah together by now. Elliot was married with 5 children at the time and besides Elliot thought Olivia was a lesbian. Most of us have never felt a romantic vibe between them anyway. Olivia would be a better fit for Rafael Barba. If the show did make Olivia as lesbian as they thought about in the beginning, she would be with Alex Cabot. Even if, like you think Olivia has romantic feeling for Elliot, why should she trust that Elliot would remain in her and Noah's life. Elliot ran 10 years ago without telling Olivia. There is nothing stopping him from doing it again. Olivia would never want to go through that again or put Noah through it. Noah's baseball coach Peter Stone left and Noah was devastated

Uh, how bout detective goren? He'd certainly understand what elliot is going through. His mom died, his brother died, and his dad was a serial killer. Plus, at every opportunity the higher ups constantly said goren was unstable and was mentally ill. His partner stood up for him. Goren knows exactly what stabler is going through. With liv it's just a guess of what he's going through. I think goren and stabler would get along extremely well, because there's not a whole lot of difference in the two of them.

She knows why he's doing it, but it still hurts because it's been 10 years without him. He knew that if he didn't tell her firmly to stay away from him or the case he's working on that she could be hurt. Weakley almost went after Eli but Elliot stopped it. Nobody in his life is safe right now and that's what he's aware of. I really want to see them discuss their feelings when things calm down. And to find out what was in that letter.

I would love it to be an SVU special, just the two of them alone for the whole episode. It would be unrealistic for them not to have THE conversation. 20yrs without it ever happening is stretching it, 30 or 40yrs seems far fetched. Don't get me wrong I dont think it will be for a while and can't help feeling that once happiness is just within grasp it will be snatched away, so maybe not till one of the leads is ready to leave the show, but yeah, definitely the conversation, If not the romantic relationship itself.

It really is a well played scene. Liv and El have that tad bit of awkwardness right now and it is believable. And yet there’s that familiarity and chemistry still between them where she just knows without him telling her everything. Her telling him she cares enough about him to address HIM and what she sees as concerning regarding his state of being matters. Of anyone else who have probably tried to discuss anything regarding that with him, Olivia’s feelings, concerns, and opinions STILL matter to him. She hit him in the heart and head with just that gesture. Love is a verb and a state of mind/being.

Great scene. Elliot was wondering if she still cared about him and hear that was really helpful and needed, but, he's in a dark place. He's crushed and making mistakes. But I like the drama. She won't back off, he never did before when she needed protection. She'll do the same for him. OC is amazing! I'm loving it. Bensler is amazing! Congrats to Chris and Mariska and everybody working!

Just the sheer honesty of him telling her how much he needed to hear her say that made me tear up. I’ve been there. After losing someone close to you and everyone knows about it, people either avoid you or for some reason say youre looking well. It always felt like that was more for their benefit than mine. It just makes you feel isolated like nobody knows how much pain you’re in, how you’re so not okay. So here, her just upfront telling him you look like hell, you’re spinning out and I’m really worried is honestly the best thing anyone could do for him. She let him know that she sees him, really sees him and what he’s going through. And she’s pretty much the only one, which is why he’s so desperate to keep her away from this situation. 💔

Tearing up this entire scene... bringing her coffee, telling her she’s a good mom (both throwbacks only the mom thing is now present-tense), the sheer honesty, her completely seeing through any walls he puts up, and him completely understanding and appreciating her but still trying to keep her far, far away from this situation. There’s a balance to be found between the good old days and reconciling with everything that’s happened and they did that perfectly here.

I think the big take away is if Stabler would have told her what’s going on what would she do? The answer would be she would do everything she can to help . That would put her in danger , and most importantly take time away from the life she has already created post stabler . She has a kid and a whole squad to look after , when before all she did was look after him. When stabler asked about taking Noah to school everyday Liv said when she can which means her life is busy as it is . Telling her to back off was stablers way of saying you don’t have to look after me this time Liv.

The way he actually does have ptsd and doesn’t even know yet, but Olivia knows him better than he does and is able to recognize the same symptoms she’d experienced as someone who has ptsd is something so tragically beautiful. She knows he’s suffering and even though he’s caused her so much pain, she needs to make sure he doesn’t feel alone and that he isn’t drowning. The honesty they now show each other is something entirely new in their relationship and I can’t wait to see more of how it translates into a new meaning for them both.

This was pretty much my reaction when someone told me I had PTSD for the first time. I always thought that was for extreme trauma like war or having your spouse blown up, not what happened to me. If you’ve got the symptoms get help. It will amaze you how much your life will improve.

You can hear the weight of relief in voice just being able to say that. On a side note, I thought this episode was better than the previous one. We’re starting to get a feel of the other members of the task force. I’m liking this Wheatley character more. The way they are painting the task force and the way they’re telling the story from the bad guys perspective gives me Criminal Minds vibes. Very solid acting from Meloni.

After that letter scene - this scene rings TOTALLY different. The way he is so surprised at her concern over him because he thinks he doesn't deserve her kindness or her time, because he thinks she has moved on already, that she's found the man of her dreams etc. That letter has changed the way view fans view any scene between Elliot and Olivia since his return. Eilene Chaiken is such an amazing amazing writer and her input into this show is truly appreciated amongst Bensler fans. I hope she stays on OC for as long as it runs.
