I love this compilation. My father was a Ford salesman throughout the '60s, and I even worked at a Ford dealer in '66 in pre-delivery. I got to drive everything. I raced a heavily modified 1968 Torino GT fastback with a 390 (4.11 gear, Isky cam, longtube headers, etc.), and a 1969 black Mustang with 428 and 3.91 gear. Great memories, and I appreciate the video.

What a thrill to see again many of the built up SUPER STOCK big blocks of the 1960s. The worked over 406s and 427s bring back a lot of nostalgia of the golden era factory sponsored cars and then later in the hands of individuals who are keeping these drag models going.

I had a 66 XL heritage burgundy with Cragars ran best 13.79, warmed over 390, 3000 stall, 4:11 gears. Would of turned better if I had stick tires, traction was bad. I miss that ol Gal..

These red Ford Fairlane's remind me of Ed Terry's Hayward Ford sponsored 67 Fairlane 500 that he campaigned back in the day at Fremont and Sacramento dragstrips. He stored all his old race cars, including his 62 Ford Galaxy, 66 Mustang Cobra, his Ford Drag Team sponsored 1968 CobraJet Mustang, 1969 Mach I and 1970 Maverick (Silver Bullet) at his race shop in Hayward, Ca. for years. Ed passed away ..and I saw his 67 Fairlane 500 sold in a TV (Mecum or Barrett Jackson) auction last year.

FE for Ford Edsel, the Edsel was built in the Metuchen/ Edison twp NJ plant in 1957 for the 1958 model year and they came with I think both Y blocks and FE big blocks. The first year of the FE was 1958 for both Ford and Edsel. When Edsel went bust they started building Mustangs in the Metuchen plant. I lived there back in the day saw Edsels daily on the transporters.They were ugly then just as now.

what does FE stand for on ford engines? one guy said it stood for "Ford Edsel" for the 352, 360, 390, 410, 427, 428 engines & another guy told me it stood for "iron" because "Fe" is iron's symbol on the periodic table. would appreciate it, if you could clarify on what it means exactly.

Does anybody know anything about casting marks in FE 352 blocks ? I was told I had a 429 super cobra jet it has a CX1 casting mark
@jerryparks6123 Жыл бұрын
Somebody's got Their wires crossed! To begin with, the Ford FE series block started out as a 332 then 352 , 390 , 406 , 427 , 428 , The 429 - 460 Ford blocks are Entirely different! They're the 385 series, actually there was a 370 C.I. 385 series they used in school buses!

why them cars all loud and dont idle good ?
@Hungdunglow7 жыл бұрын
Open headers and lopey cams. These are how old drag cars were supposed to sound. These engines are set up for the track and not the street.
@tomswinburn17787 жыл бұрын
BINGO. Neophytes can be excused for not knowing. Willie, the way to get air into an engine was thru the valves. So a high lift and long duration cam were required old school. Killed the vacuum and most ran solid, not hydraulic lifters. That lopey idle was your first clue racing that other driver for titles might be a bad idea. Old school technology meant loading those cylinders up with fuel and air (oxygen). The open exhaust a way to let the spent mixture escape, so no back pressure. I wasn't one , but I sure admired those old school racers. Guys that got their hands dirty, turned wrenches, experimented. Now these guys buy their quick cars. Out of the box. Where's the fun?

All the same cars. Lot of "Lawn Chair" guys sitting and not running 😂. No 65-67 Galaxies, my 66 XL ran 13.79 best with a warmed over 390, 3000 stall 4:11 gears, but bad old drag radials couldn't get it to hook. Sold it before I could finish it, we lost everything, house, car, my studio drums during Obama, dad lost 100k in the stock market was a bad time. I had that car for 18 years. It's up in Saginaw Michigan if I ever fell into money I know I could get it back. 6D68Y157641 Car was Heritage Burgundy with Cragars and black vinyl top with black interior
