Good review. Short of Grand Seiko, the Oceanus line is as good as gets from Japan. Overall, they offer fantastic value. I think you would like the Oceanus S100 over the T150 (I have both). It is a more elegant looking piece. The T200 series is a no go for me due to stainless steel.

Followed on WC. I just polished my 10-year old Seiko Titanium (SNAB89P1), and it's completely different now. I'm not sure if I've ruined it. It was a dull matte finish before, now a satin, almost gloss shine. I don't hate it though. Shine just needs to calm down a bit, and it will. It had to be coated in some way?

Casio's second hand alignment has always been spot on in my experience. I have owned a few Edifices in the past and currently have an Edifice which cost me around $200 and it's second hand alignment is spot on. Puts my super titanium Citizen diver to shame which retails for over twice the price of the Edifice.

It's funny. The quality control on my Citizens has always been exemplary. I'm in the US. I know Citizens are popular all over the world. I wonder if models targeted for different markets are assembled at different locations and there is variability in quality standard. That would be a shame, but we live in an imperfect reality, so 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@jojogpt Maybe? I wouldn't be at all surprised if different manufacturing facilities serving different geos have variability in QC execution or even standards. I'm in the US and we are stuck with the Edifice line which has some dressier styles but still slots below Oceanus in the Casio portfolio. I’'d like to see Casio differentiate and rationalize their product line. It would be great to see some true prestige models from them and Oceanus is the natural place for them to be. The Oceanus line is made by Casio so that the hand alignment is ALWAYS perfect. If it isn't, it can be adjusted and realigned. I have the OCW-T200 and I really think it is a great watch. It is always exactly on time, the hands always hit the markers exactly and the calendar is perpetual so it never needs to be adjusted in 30 day months or February. You don't find that on a Submariner, do you? (or any Rolex for that matter)

A Rolex is a significant purchase for most people, so to me it's entirely fair to compare what it offers for what you pay for it, with what you get with the Oceanus which is significantly cheaper.

It's baffling how Japanese companies continue releasing large watches, given Japanese people tend to have very skinny wrists. You would expect their watches to be smaller, consequentially. Plus, at least I think that Casio should create a new brand for their more expensive line that has a different look. Just like Toyota and Lexus, and Seiko and Credor.
@jasondoe2596
@jasondoe2596 2 жыл бұрын
"Different look" ? I think Casio is doing an excellent job differentiating their product lines by using distinct design languages (even if the aesthetics are a hit-or-miss for me). Think about it: You could probably guess whether a watch was a G-Shock, or a Lineage, or an Edifice, or an Oceanus even with the logo hidden, and you'd be correct 90% of the time.
@avensCL
@avensCL 2 жыл бұрын
@@jasondoe2596 While the products themselves indeed clearly differentiate themselves with the cheaper models, however, most people will not find the value proposition in a $500 Casio. And my main criticism is the sizing of Japanese watches today. The only way to buy a thin digital watch today is purchasing used 80s models, precisely from Casio, Seiko and Citizen. And given that current premium Casio watches are mostly sold in the Japanese market, and they are all big, then those watches look ridiculous in the small wrists of its target audience.

Great video. The only Casios I own are Quad Sensor G Shocks. My brother swears by the Eidifice models. We both own some of the usual popular Swiss divers but Casios are always in the regular wear rotation when it comes to everyday comfort wear. Never tried an Oceanus but I think I will have to after watching this video.

LOL -- I have a solar Casio Protrek ABC-T watch that I adore. Looks like the gorgeous love child between a U-Boat and a Seiko Arnie. Perfect field watch with an actual compass (not low-tech point the bezel to the sun nonsense...), a barometer, altimeter, and thermometer. World time, alarms, perpetual calendar, stopwatch -- everything. And it's solar. Loads of lume and a LED for night. 100m water resistance. And it's the most accurate quartz I have. It is everything a modern traditional watch should be -- with MODERN, useful, electronic complications, no need for servicing, no batteries or USB charging. Damn near perfect watch. And gorgious. And priced properly at $170 US. If we were being logical we'd acknowledge that solar + quartz + integrated circuits is how watches should be made in 2022. Not with gear trains like 1896. That Hyack guy was a marketeering genius.

I acquired a used Edifice (EQW-T630YD-1A ) with Multiband 6, Tough Solar, and Sapphire crystal. The SS case was matched with a solid SS bracelet. Other than Japan-only watchs, likw Oceanus, Edifice seems to be the top Casio -brand carried by retailers in the U.S. Not sure about EU.

Proud Casio Oceanus T200SLE-2AJR owner here (JDM, imported from Japan to Western Europe, delivery within a week). Gorgeous mid-blue dial, stainless steel on quick-release leather (both deliberate choices), atomic, Bluetooth, solar, superb Zaratsu polishing, and astonishing all-around finishing. All for less than € 600! Just do it!

I have the identical watch that came with the second hand and the date wheel misaligned. I was able to fix the date wheel but not the second hand using the procedure in the instruction manual. Any fix for a misaligned second hand that doesn't hit the markers? I understand that this is cosmetic and doesn't affect accuracy but I'm OCD. Thanks

Bought a lineage and a OCW s100 , which arrived on the same day. The value of the lineage got me asking why I bought the s100.... especially with £75 import duty. I still like my S100 but hardly wear it. The S100 i had to delve into many vids to find the secondary method ( Gshock method) of hand alignment.. which was faffage

I’ve been doing my own homework on Oceanus since seeing this video. The OCW-S100-1AJF particularly stands out as the best value in my opinion and could even be a contender as the only watch you ever need. . Any chance of a review of this model before I take the plunge? There’s not many reviews out there and the ones I’ve found are poor in comparison with yours.

Actually, I have a $100 Casio Edifice sports watch that has incredible quality and detailing. The only thing is is has a glass crystal, not sapphire. Oh yes, and its quartz, which is ok, but I'd prefer either quartz solar or automatic (and pay $200-250) But to be honest, it looks better than this watch!

Instead of the titanium LCW, check out the stainless steel version LCW-M100DSE instead. It's cheaper, the case finishing and brushing is excellent and it has a way more interesting dial and hand set. Same iridescent dial with extra raised radial grooving, bolder more interesting markers, skeletonised hour and minute hands, half white painted second hand and the oh so cool gun sight cross hairs on the dial. It's still a quartz watch so not heavy at all.
