+Monica Goold This is because the horse is truly uncomfortable whit the bit and the riders hand. There is no true contact whit the bit here. It is only Branderup who has teached this horse to be in such form. There is nothing in this riding that is comfortable for this horse. Branderup bumps up and down on a back that is way to sway to hold any weight. The only thing that holds Brenderup on the back is the skeleton an the muscles tension. I would rather recommend looking at riders doing working equestrian if you want to learn. There is much great and healthy riding performed in those competition. And please excuse my bad english!

The horse is moving his mouth because the contact with the reins is light enough that he is able to relax his jaw and work the bit (very correct). The horses mouth should not be tense and locked because that tension will carry over into the spine as the head is linked to the spine at the poll. Tension in one place affects the entire body and relaxation is paramount to learning.

When has it ever been a bad thing, not to have too much contact with the bit, and for the horse to have his nose in front of the vertical in a natural frame? His weight is on his hindlegs which we see very rarely nowadays. A horse on this level is meant to have his head up high and in front of the vertical. Only inexperienced horses or younger horses are placed in a lower frame, until they gain the strength to carry themselves and the rider with the back muscles instead of the spine. With that said, the horses mouth could be doing this out of stress, discomfort from the bit, or a tension somewhere. Maybe it is even from an old injury or something, and he just kept doing it out of habit, even after the problem was solved. We don't now, and we can't judge it from a video. But saying that you need contact with the bit is just wrong. A horse that carries itself, you won't be able to feel on the bit. Horses aren't supposed to put all their weight on the bit, on contrary to popular beliefs. Then the horse is definitely not on its hindlegs or lifting its back correctly.

"While chewing, the lower and upper jaws move only a few millimeters apart, just wide enough to give the tongue room for a slight swallowing movement. Any exaggerated, cramped lifting of the tongue would be a sign of insufficient suppleness; likewise, clamping the mouth shut is an evasion. The head of the horse should find a position that is steady, natural and near the vertical; tipping backward is an attempt to get away from the bit." Waldemar Seunig

Which breed is this horse?
@elkedecosteredc4 жыл бұрын
If I am not mistaken this is a Frederiksborger - which is the eldest breed of horses in existence originating from Denmark. Sadly this particular horse passed away at the age of 20 due to a severe illness.

It is like the fairy tale of the Emperor's clothes; he simply tells the public that it is good though it id not and the public [at least a part of it] believes that it is good. IT IS NOT !! The horse breaks in the back and has a movement that is, to say the least not harmonious and unregular. Who is mr Branderup fooling??

Karel Partouns and that one dressage video you have liked of a BTV, uncollected horse trotting in circles with a badly fitted saddle is?

Agree with the other comment. In your video the horse is on the forehand with its nose behind the vertical. Incorrect by any of the classical masters. The man in this video is preforming a levade which requires tremendous strength and power (achieved by systematic gymnastic training) as well as it has its poll as the highest point and slack in the reins while the horse works the bit. Beautiful example of classical riding.
