It's hard to pinpoint the exact cause, but I guess you're right. The recordings feel a bit overproduced/polished, and INSANELY overcompressed (although the latter is just the final stage - for me, it is the most destructive for the listening experience, but at the same time it's nothing like a definitive quality of the performance). The live performances, as much as I've watched them so far, are pure magick. In fact, such uncanny skills do NOT need any extra polish.
