a bone stock P6 3.5 on su's and P6 exhaust manifolds usually makes a little over 150bhp

@@PenguinMotors We had a Land Rover Stage 1 v8 3.5 (Series III) which made 91HP, and was told by LR-NA it could be made full power of around 130HP like the Range Rover of that time, Amazingly low state of tune back in the early 80's, and It must have been very low compression as my dad had to start it with a hand crank when the battery died.

land rover and early carb'd range rover v8 were all low compression, i think ( but not 100% certain as i dont do land rover) that land rover V8's like some of the military ones had restrictors between the carbs and manifold

That engine is pretty clapped out!! She’s going to need a lot of new metal. I played with about 5 4.0-4.6 engines for my kitcar about 15 years ago, the cams and rockers were always worn out and needed replaced but downstairs was always serviceable. I put a 4.6 crank and rods in a 4.0 engine, the blocks are the same but the 4.0 pistons have less volume. This raise the comp ratio to 10.75 or nearly 11 I think and is a common trick amongst tuners. The engine was bench run but still not fitted to the car, it’s still shrinkwrapped in the garage, 2kids slowed down my engine building hibby. 😂😂😂 All the best Graham. Are they actually the correct piston rings? The ring lands are clearly worn but still....Usual RV8 busines, incredibly they will still seem fairly sweet even when basically scrap....I quite like the TVR885 cam from Kent Cams, I have one in a 4.6 & the driveability is flawless.

Yes they were are the correct rings just severely worn. It never fails to amaze me how worn out a v8 rover can be but hide it so well other than perhaps be down on power there’s little to give it away

I reckon that engine was built like that at the factory don't forget BL build quality probably get a piston and as long as it fits in the hole that'll do lol

what's worse than a worn out engine... a worn out engine that has been buggered about with... i was a YTS for a while, young, thick + stupid, as my gaffer used to say... my gaffer also used to threaten me with the jar of vaseline, do you use it...

Heads have since been through multiple cleaning operations after have new exhaust inserts fitted
