Ben, nice job on the wall. I also put up a 4'x16' French Cleat Wall in my shop that looks almost identical to yours. I did it about 2 years ago and have yet to find a negative aspect to it. In fact, each time I buy a new tool and make a holder for it, I appreciate it that much more because I can easily move things around to place it in an appropriate spot. Great content, THANKS!

30 years ago I brought 3 sheets of 3/4 plywood home from a job site and put them on my garage block wall, all this time I just put nails and screws in to hold stuff and some of the tool holder things from the big box stores. Wow for a young man you have a lot of great ideas.

Hey Ben. You might want to figure out a way to put something over the top of your router bit plate. If something falls on them, even the smallest chips will ruin a bit. But, awesome ideas with all of this, and everything you do.
@clffliese26
@clffliese26 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe a hinged plexiglass cover. It's not hard to work with, you can see through it to see what bit you need, and, if it does get chipped or cracked, it's reasonably cheap so you can make a replacement. You might want to make several of them from the beginning so you don't have to go buy more material.

I will tell you something about those yellow lights. I opted to buy one of them because they were like 14 dollars where I could have bought a led one same day for like 30. I used it on the job for a few weeks and one day it dropped and the bulb broke. I was at the big box store and saw that led light for 25 dollars and the bulbs were about 5 dollars each. Bought that led light instead. I have had it maybe 6 months and have tossed it, dropped it, froze it and pretty much anything else that happens on most things and so far it holds up well. It is also so much cooler and no more heat beating down on you. The mount on the one I got is not all that cracked up to be. If I recall it was a Husky brand one and is suppose to attach to a stand as well. Yet over all the light is far better than the old bulb ones.

Thanks Warren. Today I just learned for you that a 4:1 ratio reduces the signal to 1dB above the threshold for every 4 dB it goes above that threshold. I always though it reduced it by 1dB. I now realize by using common arithmetic that scenario would be 4:3. I think many people are explaining it incorrectly. Thanks again!

Wow. I really like this. I need this for my craft room! I just installed a murphy bed in a bedroom to double as my craft room. I don't have a ton of wall space, but I think I can utilize one full wall to this, even though I don't think I'll need all of it. Also, I think what will be useful is that when I DO have guests, I can easily take down the protruding boxes and cubbies and the "French cleat" wall won't look bad if I dress it up and it won't get in the way of the bed. I have left over wood strips that may work. Thanks for sharing this. Really exceptional! 😄

Hello The organization tips are great. This is the most French Cleats I have seen in one area - looks great. For the paint cabinet and work bench, can you post cut lengths, screw sizes, and overall directions? It would be nice to have that for items that you build.

That’s a awesome wall setup you have. Where I live I can’t mount anything to the walls like that because I’m renting and the landlord doesn’t even want tv or shower curtain mounted. So what I did is I now have 5 big file cabinets that I keep big tools in besides my 56”, 42” and 36”toolbox’s. (I do automobile work at home on the side) Then I build peg board doors for some large metal shelve using 2x4’s as a frame with a steel cable tensioning it to keep it square. The doors are hinges in the center so you can only open on at a time and the shelve are bolted together to make it more solid. I have gate latch to keep them closed. I did that because of dust when wood working and it is extra storage but most of all my son was 1 years old and trying to use brake clean couldn’t keep him out of the chemicals so the latch is up high lol. Now he’s 3 and knows better and helps me with everything

I plan on building a french cleat wall next year. I really like how you made shelfs that stick out (like for the Skilsaw) as most vids on YT have these hung flush. I think your way is better use of real estate than hanging it vertically. Inspired, Thank you

Dust collector: just search for cyclone dust collector, you could get it for 20bucks from ebay, apply e.g. that orange bin we can see at 03:19 underneath the French cleat wall, and add a cheap vacuum cleaner (semi-industrial) to it. Not just an easy fix, but a pretty usable one. Hope this helps, keep up the videos, I really do like the way you resolve problems!

Another method for cutting the cleats out of your 4” piece is the following formula: Half width of stock - half the height - half the width of your blade. In Australia I used millimetres - 100mm x 19mm plywood piece and a 3 mm wide blade. Formula is 50-9.5-1.5 = 39mm. Set the fence fence to 39mm and make your 45 degree angle cut.
