The Bentley Continental GT is a stylish, luxury performance car that is designed to carry up to four people in supreme comfort at speeds of up to 200mph. Boasting sharper styling, and with a considerable weight saving, the second generation Bentley Continental GT has slightly better fuel consumption and lower emissions than the outgoing model. The luxury interior maintains a sporting theme combining hand-crafted wood, leather and aluminium. The GT comes with a choice of two engines, a tweaked version of the proven twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 unit, which is available in the standard GT and the even more powerful GT Speed. Then there's a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 that returns combined economy of 27mpg - 10mpg more than the W12. Driving all four wheels through a six or eight speed automatic gearbox, performance is very impressive. Competition comes in the form of Aston Martin's Virage and the Ferrari California.

Older models are only about 30k and they look almost the same as the new ones, this is one of my dream cars and if you save enough money it's actually affordable but sadly taxes are quite high for these cars

That's awesome! For petrolheads like us it's such a joy to work on old cars, making them unique and personal machines. I know a bunch of chaps who did something like that, they put an Chevy V6 on the rear of a VW Beatle, they didn't bother with the interior bit but i can tell ya it works just fine :)

The Continental GT has transformed the company into a major global brand. The Bentley Continental GT is a grand tourer produced by British automaker Bentley Motors since 2003. It was the first car released by Bentley under Volkswagen AG-management after their acquisition of the company in 1998, and the first ever Bentley to employ "mass production" manufacturing techniques. It shares a platform with the Volkswagen Phaeton. The vehicle was unveiled in 2003 Geneva Motor Show, followed by Le Mans, 2003 Goodwood Festival of Speed 2003 annual Bentley Drivers Club meeting at Silverstone. Very importantly, the car differed significantly from the previous Continental R & T models in terms of its concept: although much of the car is hand assembled, it is a mass-produced car made in significantly larger numbers. It is not a coachbuilt car. As a result, the price at launch was significantly less than the Continental R (approximately half) and this immediately exposed the car to a much wider and new customer base as a more affordable car. Torsen-based permanent four-wheel drive is standard. It will accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour (0.0 to 62.1 mph) in 4.8 seconds, and go on to reach a top speed of 318 kilometres per hour (197.6 mph). Early models include a choice of 6 body colours (Diamond Black, Burnt Oak, Cypress, Neptune, Spruce, and Umbrian Red), 8 hide colours (Beluga, Burnt Oak, Laurel, Nautic, Portland, Saffron, Savannah, Saddle), 5 veneer types (Burr Oak, Burr Walnut, Dark Stained Walnut, Madrona, Piano Black), 4 carpet and seatbelt colours (Beluga, Burnt Oak, Laurel, Nautic).

It's assembled in England only. It's based on generic high end VW parts. It's not designed in England at all or by the English. Toyota's and Honda's are built here but it doesn't make them English. Bentley is German since 1998.

But it is all relative as Bentley like Jaguar are designed in the UK by British designers to their specifications. You would hardly say German aircraft because they use British Aerospace components are not German would you.

This car has its roots based on a FWD car believe it or not, which explains the length (or lack of) the bonnet. It shares a platform with the A8 if I'm not mistaken.

Along with the much-criticised VW Phaeton the GT shares a drivetrain: like the Audi and Bentley, VW's flagship vehicle has a W12 engine. Of course, the German Giant no longer puts together said model, however it has a "resurgence" of sorts in China (its biggest market - even when Phaeton was being made) called "Phideon" : resembling a 7 Series.

My father got an 04 one a few years back for 32,000 euros here in ireland. There are a few on sale that have depreciated horribly , main reason being insurance, it is almost impossible to service here and getting parts is even worse

Great to have a woman giving feedback on a car. I was just wondering though: if you can spend money on a bentley, you wont drive long hours in it.. you go for a rolls and be driven? Driving long hours for example: business. Is never fun, only time consuming. I must say, the bentley brooklands gives you just a little bit more bite. Driving a classy looking car, with almost a thousand horsepower under the hood. Keep up the good vids

For all of you wondering why it's left hand drive, the car would have been provided for this review by Bentley themselves, not a customer. A lot of the show cars Bentley have are left hand drive, this is due to the fact that the cars are registered in the UK as that's where the factory is, but these cars are mainly used for motor shows and exhibitions around the globe (most of which drive on the right hand side of the road).

Unless it's 6.0 or 7.3 V12 Aston Martin engine :D or 6.0 TDI V12 Audi Q7. But yes, other engines are good in that 3-4 litres. But that 4.0 TFSI V8 is just awesome. The possibility to have V4 and better fuel efficiency is great imho.
