Daphne was played by the late, great actress Melinda Dillon. She was the mother in "A Christmas Story" and played the other mother in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." She was an outstanding actor and will be greatly missed.

During the Shakespearean times, many male and female roles were done by men. Women were discouraged from doing theater work. This lasted until the late 17th century when women were accepted for plays and musicals.
