@@goblinteehee Nearly everything contains carbon atoms, but charcoal is primarily just carbon. Big difference there. In fact, the word "carboniferous" is used specifically for things yielding coal (or containing carbon). There's a reason for that.

To add to that, charcoal isn’t always or necessarily made from wood, it can be made from other organic materials as well. Essentially what happens is everything but the carbon is burned away. There may be impurities in most charcoal, so it’s technically not always %100 carbon, but it mostly is. Either way, carbon is more correct than wood, since it’s always carbon, but not always wood. Not to mention the wording of the question.

To be technically accurate, palm trees aren't actually grass; they are just classified in the same clade as grass - monocots. This does make them distinct from the majority of trees, which are dicots, but it doesn't make them grass. Bamboo, however, is a grass, alongside cereal grains like wheat, rice, and corn!
