@@OGsDangerShow I wanted a Benelli M4 myself after seeing it in action during the tunnel sequence in the 2nd "John Wick" movie, but sadly, since they're still unavailable (and will be for quite awhile), I ended up buying the Benelli M2 from my gun range instead as a good alternative. And funny enough, they also had the Beretta 1301 (I believe the one I saw had the pistol grip), but the Benelli M2 was cheaper at a respectable $1549, compared to the Beretta's $1600

Hi Guy! Well, you should know that Beretta owns Benelli along with Tikka. I've seen the Beretta used in Italy by some special units in Rome, Venice, and Florence. The semi auto action does take a lot of recoil out. I think the main reason for the difference in color is the stocks are made in one factory and the weapons are made in another. On a personal note, Beretta has used a clothing designer for the stocks, so they really are stylish and functional. If you are in a cold climate, you’ll want to use some type of graphite spray that dries completely dry in the action only. Police in the USA have used Berettas for some time now and I for one like them a lot. If you find yourself on walking duty the lite weight Beretta is the ticket. Good clip thanks.

I am so glad everyone loves this shotgun so much. I got one a year or two back for nearly $1500, between covid and presidential nonsense, guns and ammo were insane. I kept feeling very silly for buying the gun, especially at the increased price at the time, but shotgun shells were by far the cheapest option at the time and I just love shotguns. Sad I had to spend so much on it but damn is it a good shooter and it makes me feel better about my purchase seeing people so passionate about the gun. :')

That's not a horrible out-the-door price if it's the tactical version. I'll be picking up a regular comp version that has the beaded sights for hunting use. It's approximately $1,300 out the door but I believe it's well worth the price for a lifetime of service it will give

I own both the Benelli M4 (military model w/ various mods) and the Beretta 1301 (full LTT mods) and I love the Beretta a bit more. I have found that I can outrun the trigger on the Benelli and have yet to do so on the Beretta. The biggest difference though is the recoil, with high brass or slugs I notice it significantly more when shooting the Beretta; If i had to only pick one, it would be the Beretta every time. Great videos Gregg and keep it up!

Instead of releasing a round onto the lifter for “cruiser ready” you can press one onto the lifter thru the ejection port and close the bolt over it (chamber empty) resulting in a fully loaded mag tube + 1
@rogerbussiii
@rogerbussiii 3 жыл бұрын
Theres enough room for the bolt to close over the shell the feed ramp and that doesn't cause any problems with feeding the first round? Sorry if my question seems remedial. I dont own a shotgun. I wasn't planning on learning about this gun today but this may find its self on my short list. Also i think i recall seeing your process on this or another shotgun before.. but it was being sold as a plus 2 basically.. they demonstrated you could chaimber a round in addition to what you described. Do i have that right? Do you know if this Is this common or is it relegated to a few models? Thanks
@Elessar762
@Elessar762 3 жыл бұрын
@@rogerbussiii yes, this shotgun allows “ghost loading” which is basically manually placing a shell onto the lifter and then closing the bolt over it. Many auto loading shotguns can do this but not all of them. You have to press down the shell and lifter as you close the bolt but it works fine. I was describing the cruiser ready condition from the video (empty chamber) but if you wanted to put one in the chamber as well then you could also do that resulting in 7+1+1 capacity. Although a loaded chamber is not recommended unless you are actively using the shotgun.

Personally I favor the tan color and of course here in Israel it would fit in nicely except in the spring green season. My Mossberg 590 holds 8 + 1 and I have a rifled and smooth bore barrels for it. I have had a few semi auto 12 gauge units but all long barreled for duck and goose hunting. After 20 years with my 590 I never had it malfunction but I am addicted to getting new weapons and this 1301 tics all the boxes. Well it might be time to see my weapons dealer again. Thank you once more for delivering honest assessments of weapons. Stay safe and be well.

Recently picked up a Mossberg 930 SPX, just installed a Mesa Urbino tactical stock. So far its taking all types of loads and I like being to ghost 9, 2 3/4 shells. I did take a long hard look at the 1301 but in the end I went with the SPX because the only difference I could see was the weight. Cant really tell if the 1301 is "faster" because I can dump 9 shells in like 5 seconds and I'm no Jerry Miculek lol. The 1301 is an excellent shotgun though, I wouldnt mind picking one up in the future.

My last job was mixing paint for Horton emergency vehicles. The company makes ambulances and ships them around the world. I'm proud to say I worked on some of the safest ambulances in the world including a bulletproof model. Municipality in Florida ordered about 15 ambulances and we were to match the GM paint on the chassis they would use. I was taking the TASC on why the paint on the body not matching the chassis by about the 6th unit. I had them take the units out in the sun and it turned out that all of the ambulance bodies matched but the cabs from GM did not. Matching paint is not as easy as everybody thinks! At the end of the day those ambulances were work trucks and the same can be said for the shotgun.

You are100% correct. I spent my youth in and around print shops and photo labs and color matching is a talent all its own. Surfaces reflect light differently causing color shifts like you described. In the case of the 1301 the aluminium receiver is cerakoted and the furniture is a colored plastic - not painted at all. not all colors exist in various color spaces sometimes a color in one cannot be reproducdd at all in another. Greens and browns are notoriously difficult that said Beretta should have selected two greens in both materials that were a better match

Hey OG: FIRST OF ALL, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND TO ALL YOUR SUBSCRIBERS!!! Yet again another excellent video. The Beretta 1301 is an excellent weapon (as are all Berettas) and indeed does offer great value for the money. However, for a few hundred dollars more you should consider trying out a Tavor TS12. You’ll get tired pulling the trigger as you empty 16 2-3/4” rounds (load it on Monday, and shoot all week). You can easily top it off from either the left or right side while standing/moving at low-ready so you won’t have to run dry until your pockets (or bandaleer, cuz’ we don’t need no stinking badges!) are empty of shotgun rounds. The bullpup design makes it short (28.34” OAL) and being rear-balanced it is thus extremely fast to handle. If you are so inclined, you can even load each five (5) round tube with whatever different types of rounds you want and then switch back-and-forth between them if/as needed (e.g., five slugs in one tube, five buckshot in another tube and five bird shot in the third tube to shoot that damn partridge in the pear tree after you’ve taken out all the perps with tubes one and two). The recoil is straight back thus the weapon is very controllable and doesn’t tend to climb very much while rapid-firing. Weapon lights are easily mounted on the M-LOK side rails while BUIS, Red-Dots, etc., are all are easily mounted on the full-length 1911 top rail (heck, you could probably mount an umbrella on that lengthy top rail, to keep the sun out of your eyes while you spend all day pulling the trigger trying to empty the magazines). Opposing attachment points easily accommodate mounting two-point slings (e.g., a VTac adjustable sling), making it easy to let the weapon hang when transitioning between shotgun and pistol. Uses Beretta style screw-in chokes. Easy to field strip/clean/re-assemble. Works best with ammo having minimum velocities of 1,200 FPS and 1-1/8” loads, and the gas system can be dialed-in for either ‘Light’ or ‘Heavy’ loads - 2-3/4” or 3”. As with any semi-auto, best to strip down, lubricate prior to breaking it in at the range with 200-250 rounds, but after that it’s Run-and-Gun Time. I own more than a few tactical shotguns, and the TS12 has become my favorite (although after viewing your video I am inclined to add a 1301 to my tactical shotgun scarem harem). Molon Labe ! Eric

it's amazing how Beretta grabbed the best technology from Franchi and Benelli .Franchi used chromemoly barrels and aluminum zirconium receivers .Benelli used a bolt recoil spring vs Franchi used the barrel recoil spring .Beretta used gas operation ...They were all good guns ,I have all 3 .in the winter when I go for Jack rabbits at -25 °C with snow shoes and back pack I use my Franchi .Much lighter than both .For duck and field hunting I use my Benelli and for deer I use my Beretta ..Each one has a specific use .And I like all my spaghetti guns .

Greetings from the southern BC mountains again sir, thanks for a great review. We don't have shotguns or any guns for self defense from humans up here either, it's all for bears.... so that being said, I'll say that for years now if I want a fastener to stay put, I use plain old 5 minute epoxy. It releases with any heat gun at about 275°F, which is much less than the 500° which Red Loctite requires. Epoxy also takes up any voids where there's imperfections in the machining - say between a scope base and receiver for instance - which can be beneficial too. Hope that was useful for you or someone out there sir. All the best to you all.

Only thing you didn't touch on in the video is also the ability to "ghost" load another round. Haven't picked up a magazine extension yet, but I can currently get 7 rounds loaded from the factory (5+1+1), however I typically keep it Cruiser ready as well. Much appreciated time and detail in the video though, I always enjoy you guys and your witty banter.

I'm in the UK. My son has a 1301 with a pistol grip. My experience with semi autos is limited but as a relative novice the 1301 has been the easiest to shoot and most tolerant of my lack of experience. I'm after a multi shot myself and would love one of these however having access yo my sons does make me think perhaps a different one might be a better option as we would both have access to 2 types of multishot shotguns. The Bennelli sounds a good option but they are pretty sparse in the UK and more expensive. I'll probably wait until I have a bit more experience before committing. Good video. Thanks 👍

Day one in 1992 of firearms in my Federal Law Enforcement academy the instructors showed the ineffectiveness of full auto M16 on multiple targets as compared to 870 with #4 buck. Extraordinary difference on fatal hits. Shotgun always wins. Same thing when I was in 1987 AZ police academy.

OG I agree with you on the color matching. I also have the same color OD Green. Yes tool does need front sling attachment point. Along with the 2 round extended magazine. I also added a red dot that allows me to co-witness the factory sights. Do love shooting this nice tool and sits ready to work if called upon. Have added some quick loops in truck behind driver seat that allows me to stand this tool upright when we travel so that its within close reach. I also had looked into buying its heavier and more costly cousin first then I saw this sweet thing and fell in love with it. Started looking around for one, low and behold my neighbors at one at local tool store whom I called and secured it over the phone till I could get there to pick up this sexy tool. My wife was jealous at first but now she’s ok with where my side love stands at the ready if called upon. Stay safe out there.

Hey Greg, thanks so much for getting back to me to answer my ammo question. But now my plans are further complicated by a new shotgun Beretta introduced at SHOT, the A300 Ultima tactical version. Don't know if you've seen it yet, but as a shotgun guy, it looks pretty good and appears to answer our minor criticisms of the 1301, such as an extended magazine being included, and a price below $1000. You ought to see if you can lay hands on one for one of your great reviews.

The five round limit in semi-auto shotguns is due to 922r compliance for imported shotguns. To make it compliant, you need to add two more American made parts. A U.S. made stock and front handguard makes you legal since the mag tube is U.S. made. Three parts total. Add a pistol grip, and it takes four parts. At least, that is my understanding. That's why put a straight field stock on my M4. The 1301 is a great shotgun. (imho)

I did buy them, install them and love them. Thank you. ;) If the price is still too high for the ultra budget shooter, there are other versions available for about $7 for a six round pair and thry come with the mounting pieces, as well. I can't guarantee they would last ad long as the pricey version but, at that price you can always buy more. Especially if you want extras to keep in an ammo bag or your vest, keeping "the good ones" on your weapon. I'd love to have one of these 1301s of my very own but, "cheap as they are" (for a Beretta), I'm gonna have to keep feeding my piggy bank. I also agree that for the amount of fun tickets it takes to obtain one of these, they could toss in the 2 rd extension and not cause themselves any real discomfort for the bean counters, just as Glock could add better than really cheap plastic sights and process the trigger one step further to eliminate the gravel in their marshmallow trigger. I always wanted a Benelli auto-loader, as well. I'm a particular fan of the M3, which is a "dual action" shotgun, firing in either semi-automatic or pump, similar to the Franchi Arms, Spas12 (but much more reliable). The M3 is definitely out of my budget range, also clocking in around $2k (if you can find one) but the Turks made an M3 clone, called the Tec12 for about 1/3rd the price and still very reliable. Externally identical with interchangeable "outers," the innards are somewhat different to keep the patton police off their backs. The reason I'm enthralled with this weapon is because you can feed it anything from a 3" magnum buckshot or slug to a low-based non-leathal or light shot rounds and it says "Thank you, sir... May I have some more, please?" It's recommended that high based shells only be fired in semi-auto because of the design of the "switch" which could have an issue if it's not properly engaged (is my understanding) but any 23/4" or low based shells can be fired either/or, as long as it cycles the action. That's the beauty of it, if you fire a round that won't cycle in semi, just rotate the switch to activate the pump and get to work. The fact that you can have both options in one weapon is great for those who can't afford or deal (for whatever reason) with two weapons or if their mission changes and different tactics and ammo is suddenly called for. To those who say "but you're not supposed to fire high powered shells in pump mode" I say "why would you want to when you can fire in semi-auto!??" It's faster with instantaneous, on target follow-ups and you don't run the risk of short stroking the action. Is this supposed to be a detriment?? I've found that most regular load, 23/4" bird shot *will* cycle the weapon but, if you have a box from a manufacturer that won't, no problem! Want to shoot beanbag or rubber rounds? No problem! 😀 The only downside I'd that the standard tube extension from Nordic won't fit because the mag tube is fixed at 5 rounds. There are those who have made the modification, the recipe is out there but, you have to cut the end of the mag tube to fit the extension so, it's a one way trip. Just be sure it's what you reeaally want before you start. If you're not going to be running "tactical ops," do you really need the extra couple in the tube or can you practice your speed loading and be happy? It's personal choice. But, for $600 instead of $1,800 - $2,100... That's a pretty minor issue compared to the advantages of the weapon. And, as I say, you can do it if you absolutely can't sleep at night with 5+1. 😀

On the issue of using red Loctite for small screws... to disassemble you can touch the screw head with a soldering iron for a few seconds. Red Loctite will soften with this brief intense heat, and the screw will come out as if it had no Loctite at all. I used that technique on a Loctited Glock front sight screw. Two grown ass men tried to get that bastard out with every tool they make for that tiny thin-head screw!! 9 seconds with a soldering iron, not wetted with solder, and it almost jumped right out! Try it next time, may save you guys lots of time and stripped screw heads.

I've had my 1301 for almost a year and only recently took it out of the case. I have several shotguns that have Nordic components magazine extensions and even though they're very well made, they're just too expensive for what it is. Botach has a similar magazine extension of the same quality for less than half the price of what the Nordic components one cost. Only difference is that it doesn't come with a magazine spring and even when you buy one separately you're still at less then half the price of a Nordic components kit. I've complained to the Nordic magazine extension and there's no difference in terms of quality and build.

@Whiskey_Tengu 3 жыл бұрын
The pistol grip makes a difference in a few ways that if you're new to shotguns, shouldn't and likely won't matter to you unless you're LE, active duty military or a tactical competition shotgunner. With a pistol grip, you can "swing" the barrel with just a bit more ease, which may make all the difference if you are LE clearing rooms. Can you still clear rooms effectively without a pistol grip? Of course you can. However, in tight corridors, hallways, doorways, etc, not having a flared elbow may be convenient. This is mitigated with a pistol grip. If you shoot prone, the kick from this gun may cause you to smack yourself in the face with the thumb knuckle unless you move your thumb out of the way before squeezing the trigger. If you have a pistol grip, this is a non issue. Why would you be shooting prone with a shotgun? If you're firing slugs for that long distance shot, or zeroing for slugs at a distance, prone is very useful for accuracy. I'm sure there are other reasons I haven't listed, but again, most have to do with the type of control a pistol grip lends to the barrel swing from target to target in CQB.

1301 is the fastest shotgun i’ve ever had the pleasure of running; quite a bit quicker than my M4; A300 Ultima Patrol is a bit slower too than both the 1301 and the M4 but a great “budget” auto if that’s what you’re after. All in all, 1301 was light, extremely fun to shoot, zero failures after many hundreds of rounds; various loads etc. M4 is the softest, but also heaviest of the 3. A300 hit the hardest, 1301 a little softer, and the m4 i let my 12 year old shoot with supervision because it’s so soft. 1301 is crazy crazy fast; i couldn’t outrun it, whereas i can outrun my M4. 1301 is designed to be shot quickly. takes a lot of practice to stay on target well but very doable. Excellent video on the Beretta 1301 Gregg. In fact it was so good and convincing that I was gonna go out right away and buy one. Then I remembered that they are banned in Australia unless you can prove a need to own one ( farmer, sporting club ). Oh well for a whole 29 min I was re-living my youth when I had my semi-auto shotgun before they took them away. Keep up the great work and see you TFM.

Thanks Jack. If it will help I’ll write a strongly worded letter to the local constabulary and inform them of your dire need for one of these.

I agree. Should come with the mag extension includuded, even if not assembled. Especially for the price. As well as 3 chokes.

The chokes are pointless. It's a defensive/offensive shotgun intended for short range with shot or slightly increased range with slugs.

@@225degrees I understand your reasoning. I was referring to the 1301 line as a whole, not just the tactical version. I wouldn't say they're useless and just because it has a shorter barrel doesn't mean it's an absolute that it's tied down to defensive use only. Open your mind my friend.
@225degrees
@225degrees 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshuagibson2520 The 1301 tac was entirely designed around defensive/offensive use. Ghost ring sights are no good for bird or clay work. The shorter barrel is less than ideal for the same. I doubt Beretta or anyone else with an ounce of common sense gives two shits whether or not it is suitable for sporting uses.

@@225degrees stay trapped in your box bud. Some of us do silly shit like sling slugs out of shorter barreled shotguns out to 200 yards, because the monotony gets boring after a while as well as we enjoy a challenge / doing something different. The group of guys I regularly shoot with aren't limited by your ideals or Berettas. Fuck right off and enjoy your day.

@@joshuagibson2520 The use of slugs is the shotgun equivalent of trying to be a rifle. If you're using your shotgun like a rifle then the choke doesn't make a difference. Hence why chokes on the 1301 or any shotgun being employed with slugs is pointless.

My "O.G. green" Gen 2 just arrived, and the upgrades are in place: Nordic +2 and follower, also an XS front night sight (use a 5.5mm wrench on that nut, and a modicum of patience…) What a super cool piece of hardware! 🇮🇹🏆🇺🇸

I've been running the 1201FP for 23 years. I recently bought the 1301 tactical in coyote tan ( FDE) and have to say it is a definite upgrade. The 1201 is still slightly lighter but the pic rail and sights are far superior to the old rear notch and gold bead rifle sights of the 1201. The choke system is another high upgrade in my opinion as well. The over sized bolt releases and safety are fast and ver intuitive and the over sized charge handle is a great addition. I agree that the lack of a magazine extension is problematic. I have been able to find one in a price point I'm willing to pay. One thing you didn't touch on was the ability to ghost load the 1301 which is my favorite way to transport my shotgun. ( Nevada allows the magazine to be loaded but chamber must be empty) this allows me to have 6 rounds in the gun or 7 rounds in my 1201 while complying with state law. Over all I loved the video.

Thanks for watching, Jeff. I thought I mentioned and showed the ghost load, but I’m getting old. I could be losing it.

THANKS FOR AN ENTERTAINING AND INFORMATIVE VIDEO. AFTER BUYING THE 1301 TACTICAL YOU COULD SPEND HUNDREDS ON UPGRADES, BUT AFTER A TWO ROUND MAGAZINE EXTENSION AND THE ESSTAC CARDS, ALL YOU REALLY NEED IS THE ARIDUS CROM AND A PRIMARY ARMS RED DOT.
