Love 5 guns. 6 years ago I was a 20 year old guy looking to buy my first gun with no idea what to look for, coming from a non-gun owning family. I came across a video called (as I remember)"5 guns for your college student" and never turned back. In that one year I bought a glock 19, a 91/30, a Maverick 88, and my first AR. And I've been on the journey ever since. You guys helped fill the gaps of knowledge that I couldn't get from my own family and ill always be thankful for that. Thank you guys for putting in the work, and keep it up!

I wish I had anything (common sense to boot) in my mid-20's I would have two or three of every popular caliber up to 50 BMG and could have bought a ranch. From 1994-2004 (Omnibus Crime Bill) made it 'illegal' to manufacture or import rifle mags >10 rounds. 30 round mags were selling for $50 & much higher. Crime with 'black rifles' was one of its selling points which was BS. Murders still went up-same as always, with handguns.

Had a huge guffaw when Eric mentioned a long barrelled 24" or 26" shotgun! We had a member turn up to a driven fox shoot with a 42" marlin bolt-action 3&1/2" chamber. The chap had to use a stand to support his shotgun. I am commenting from the Republic of Ireland.
@kevinfox5004 жыл бұрын
Pump or bolt? Marlin made the model 200 pump with long barrels, from 30 to 38 inches, and those barrels sell for more than the shotgun does now. Bolt, odds are it was the Marlin Model 55, Super Goose, in 10 bore. Excellent duck blind gun, but impractical for field use. I have 3 M 55s, one a 20 in Swamp Gun, a 36 in M 55, both 12s, and just added a.Super Goose, last year. Also have my grandfathers 200, with the 19 inch slug barrel, and the 36 in bird barrel.

A long time ago after I came back from Southeast Asia in 1968 I went shooting with a friend who was nuts about skeet. Kept written records on his precious skeet gun, a Remington 1100. At that time it was up to 128,000 rounds. Never failed. No broken parts; only needed a rubber O-ring from time to time. He lived and shot another 30 years. The gun lasted until it was passed on to relatives. Around 1980 I was working at the oldest gun shop in town, a Remington repair station. A wealthy customer brought in an 1100 he had dropped out of a boat while hunting Jaguar in Central America and said it took the boys three days to find it. He unloaded it and took the barrel off and swished it around in the river to wash most of the mud out, then put the barrel on and with new shells continued hunting. My semi auto is an 1100. No fancy crap on it just good ammo in it.

I've never had a malfunction from my SPAS-12. I've had mine for 10+ years. The problem is the vast majority of them have not been maintained for various reasons. When I got mine I replaced the O-ring for the gas system, the receiver and stock shock absorbers, and later on, the fire control group. This was done to address the safety recall issue. My gun still had the very dangerous quick employment safety. The problem is that by now, that O-ring has disintegrated and so has the receiver and stock shock absorbers. They literally fall apart after 30 years or more of sitting. Most people don't know anything about the guns or what needs to be replaced on them. The guns will not cycle low power ammunition when on semi-auto, but switching from pump to semi-auto is way easier than it is on the M2. You also don't need to unfold the stock for the gun to operate reliably. I've never had that issue either. The one thing I will say that's against the SPAS-12 is the fact that it's overly complex and operating it can be difficult. If you hit the magazine interrupt, or you aren't well versed at loading it, the gun is a pain to operate. I wouldn't recommend them for home defense, but they aren't as unreliable or as difficult to operate as the video makes them sound.

I don’t think that’s the same video. Auto5’s probably never crossed their minds when considering the line up. If we were all tasked to make this video, prior to any indication of what they chose. I suspect that the bench would look radically different from one to the next. With no clarification of what the shotgun will be used for, simply “best auto shotguns”. My bench would have more wood furniture on the shotguns for example.

One Ton Scout II Though the Auto5 still deserves a mention because of its history that lead to the modern semi-auto shotgun. The show should have been called, “The Best Modern Semi Auto Shotgun.”

Dan Liberty look i don’t disagree with you on the pedigree of the auto 5. I just don’t get the impression that they were thinking along those lines when they chose what they chose. I don’t think it is even a modern shotgun criterion. I feel like this title should be “our favorite picks for a starting 3-gun shotgun” I think it is just a wide range of interpretations when so simple as “best auto shotguns”. There are shotguns in their lineup that are very clearly not even the best in their own class so what they mean by “best” is not clear.

Speaking of military weapons going beyond the call of duty. Eric is absolutely correct. The military uses things til there is nothing left to use. I was issued a M16A2 while in the Army that was so worn out the pins holding the upper and lower together could not keep the upper and lower in line. That thing had more slop in it than a 1,000 pound hog. As a makeshift repair I tore the cover off the an Army field manual, folded it twice and used the folded cover in between the upper and lower to take the wobble out of the rifle. I then proceeded to qualify expert with the rifle. Any civilian rifle in this condition would have long ago either been retired or repaired. I was not issued a replacement for my rifle until a 2 Star General saw my improvised repair a year later during a change of command review. Trust me the Army's motto of "Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome" is not just a slogan.

Jerry uses 930 not because it’s a good shotgun but because Mosaberg is his sponsor. Should he or his daughter be free to choose a shotgun themselves, I’m 100% sure it wouldn’t be Mossberg.

It's crazy that we've gotten to the point where semi autos have advanced enough to be so much more trustworthy. Back in the good ol days everyone wanted a pump because the semis were more likely to jam. New advances in shotgun technology has made it possible to actually trust your affordable semi in combat roles.

Great video. I rarely hear any praise for the Remington V3 platform. Am I the only one that loves this 12 gauge? You can get it in 13, 18, 22, 26 & 28" barrels. Accessories are available to make any kind/style of gun you might imagine. I've never had mine fail to run 2&3/4" or 3" factory loads. I find it a great all around 12 guage. I admit, I haven't shot Italian B guns..... are they really better than my V3?

I have been searching for a Remington V3 Tactical Vent Rib with bead sight. Absolutely no luck anywhere. The new company that bought Remington is now called Rem Arms. Versa Max Tactical shot guns available on their website. Not the V3 updated version. From what I understand production has stopped but the new owners want to keep the New York factory open. Don't like going with the Italians even though that M4 is rock solid.

I haven't dropped it off a mountain yet but I've worked the hell out of my MB 500 for the last 10 years. It's proven to be the most reliable gun I've ever owned, thus the reason I opted for the 930 when choosing a tactical 12g.

You guys failed to mention how the Remington *Versa Max* unlike any of the other shotties on the table, is chambered for *all* lengths of shells: 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2" ...and it will work fine even with light loads. Also it has, by far, the *lightest recoil* of any of the shotguns on your table. The wide range of variants of this shotgun available at every price point, from tactical w 18.5" barrel all the way up to waterfowlers with 30" barrels, makes the *Versa Max* the most versatile (and best value) shotgun you review.

The Franci SPAS 12 semi auto to pump function is a simple press of a button under the fore grip/stock and move it about a quarter of an inch back or forth as you change between operational modes. SPAS was an acronym for Special Purpose Automatic Shotgun and was intended for Military and Police use. Designed for M&P use it was designed to work with full power loads (slugs and buckshot) on semi auto and for lighter loads you would switch to the pump action mode. For importation to the United States they change the acronym to mean Sporting Purpose Automatic Shotgun.

Welcome home brother and we thank you for your service! I'm sure you'll run across some like minded folks before too long. The liberal anti 2nd Amendment assholes really help bring enthusiast like us together even more with each passing day. I'd be comfortable even saying that with them wanting to defund the cops, letting prisoners out to roam the streets, and letting aunt-teef-uhh and the Bolshevik Lenin Marxist burn down cities, attack innocent civilians, and busting through gates to terrorize neighborhoods unchecked and encouraged, has made it abundantly clear that the addition of several million new gun owners that popped up last spring has sent a clear message to the liberal jackasses that no longer hold near the influence they once did. The anti 2nd Amendment attitude has mainly gone by the wayside once people realized that they are the only ones left to defend themselves and their family and The police will probably not arrive any time soon even when called.

BONES 1x2 it’s depends what you are doing... they’re are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I have extended tube mags that hold comparable rounds. Those and all my sporting shotguns also have 32” barrels with extended choke tubes. That’s a really long shotgun that works well for reaching out and getting several clay birds flying through the air. Conversely it would be TERRIBLE in CQB because of its length. The opposite occurs with an AK pattern shotgun. They are not good at upland use or sporting clay. Alternatively would be good at a close quarters situation. It depends what you are doing.
