I prefer the 1911 for 45's but I have a 92fs Beretta . I wanted to purchase another 9mm pistol. I recently bought the M9A3. They have really improved a great gun. The trigger is better and I like the 1911 grip angle much better. I shoot the M9 just about as well as a 1911. If someone doesn't like the M9A3 I don't know what they are looking for in a pistol.

Served in the Army in the mid to late 90's and even then I still loved my M9. I've owned the P320, and still think it is one of the best striker fired guns out there. That being said, I sold off my P320s and continue carrying my M9s.

I don't understand what everyone's issue is with the safety on the Beretta M9/92FS safety, being in the Navy, I've had enough training and got enough time with it that I got used to it. You'd be surprised what you can get used it with enough time and training.

Beretta 92 / 96 every time over a Sig P320 . I have always preferred the Taurus version over the Beretta , even more so since Beretta started adding plastic parts . As far as semi-autos go, give me a ' DE 50 AE, 44 mag and 357 mag ( before the ugly accessory rails added top and bottom ) ; 1911 platform in 45acp ; S&W 4506 ; S&W 5906 and Taurus 99/101.

No one has addressed this and call me crazy but something tells me a polymer framed combat pistol in the environments the U.S. Army is operating in (and will continue to operate in for awhile) will cause reliability and function problems. Maybe not so much with the modular capability of the p320 as you just swap the guts out but....i dont know. Maybe iam clueless.

Excellent video, thanks. The M17 will also have a frame safety, loaded chamber indicator but no decocker. The US Navy sidearm training and practice constantly focuses on "live hammer" vice "dead hammer" readiness for personnel security. Hence frame safeties (M1911, M9 & M17).

I had a 92fs years ago that was a nail driver. I sold it because it was big, heavy, and thick. I prefer Cz's full size guns to beretta as they feel better in my hands, although they are just as heavy. I have that same p320 you have and had it for about a year now. Definitely a sweet shooter. It's funny how the beretta m9 has the highest bore axis out of all the popular pistols but nobody ever mentions it because it's a soft shooter and doesn't flip much. Just proves my opinion that the whole bore axis mania we have today is kind of getting ridiculous. It's about the design of the pistol and rsa that mitigates recoil and muzzle flip.
@NolanOutdoors8 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Jones Yea most of the pistols that I've had experience with that had the "high bore axis" haven't given me any problems at all. I think it's a non issue....... I need to get me a classic CZ to try out soon! I hear nothing but good things about them

Great review. I have both of these pistols. I have owned the Beretta for about 20 years or so and just bought the Sig about a month ago. The Beretta has always been extremely accurate on paper, especially with Winchester 124 grn NATO ammo, or good handloads. I have only put about 300 rounds through the sig so far, but I can already see it shoots tighter groups on paper than my Glock does. I think the Sig p320 is the most accurate striker fired pistol I have ever shot on paper and measured. I enjoyed your video.

I think they made a good choice. I'm a glock guy and would have rather seen them adapt glock. I do think the Sig is a better gun for the army from a maintenance standpoint. the Disassembly makes a glock look complicated. The big army won't be able to take advantage of the characteristics I like about the glock with the amount of training they receive so the sig is probably a better choice. It'll be interesting to see if the units carrying glocks switch over.

I carried a 1911 in the first gulf war and when my unit got back in country we were issued brand new M9s. I didnt like the M9 then and i still dont have much use for one today. The trigger is crap the slide mounted safety is a bad idea and the open slide was not well thought out. I own a p320 and in my opinion it is a much more user friendly pistol than the M9. For new shooters in the military and a lot of new recruits are brand new to shooting the da/sa trigger pull of the M9 can be a difficult trick to master. Not so much with a 320 where each pull of the bang switch is the same. Anyway its just my opinion ymmv

I have NO experience with the M9, but I do own two 320's! I've handled M9's; just never shot them, and I have one big problem... Every military buddy I've spoke with about the M9 all made the same complaint, too! "It's heavy as Hell!" The exposed barrel, too... I was never fonf of that, but the 320 has everything closed off :-D Well, the 320 is NOT even remotely heavy so it definitely wins the weight comparison! Well, I think that the Army made a great choice with the 320, but Marsoc & the SEALs were dumb as Hell for accepting the Glock 19's! ...even if they were free! They should have just waited for their 320's... :-D

The U.S. Army awarded Sig Sauer a contract worth $580 million to make the next service pistol based on the company's P320 handgun. Except, the Glock is lighter, has a much simpler, accurate and reliable mechanism. There is talk of "modularity," but I cannot see soldiers allowed to often change chassis and calibers. Moreover, on my Glock 23 I exchange the .40 caliber barrel for a 9mm conversion barrel and magazine and it work just fine. I suspect it will also work as well with the barrel for the .357 SIG cartridge. It too can be said to be "modular," the new marketing buzzword. I wonder who is the Senator for Exeter, NH, where the SIG P320 is being made. I had to buy a SIG 320 compact in 9mm with a medium frame to test. After 500 rounds, I cleaned it and put it away. The Glock has a better grip, points better with its lower barrel-to-grip profile and has yet to jam. I also own a HK V9. Both, the Sig and HK pistol have more complex mechanisms and are most definitely inferior to the Glock. I have not tried the CZ P10.

Glock wanted more money and the under barrel rail wasn't very good so they went with Sig.

There is nothing meaningful that an M9 can do that a P320 cannot in terms of combat. M9 cannot be simple as a P320 to train and operate. (Speaking partly from first hand experience of training with M9 and striker fired pistols like Glock, M&P which are similar to P320). M9 cannot have as less parts to go wrong as P320 (And, I have first hand experience with M9 with worn parts that caused problems, parts which does not exist in P320). M9 cannot have a grip as easy to hold as P320 for people with small hands, and same applies to trigger reach. P320 finish is much more durable than that of M9 which would provide much better protection against corrosion. (I also have first hand experience with problems of M9's chipped off finish leaving exposed parts that rusted fast).
@ejoung12537 жыл бұрын
CZMan63 “The M9 already has fully trained armourer/gunsmith cadre...” Pistols like M&P and Glock can have armorer level trained people in a day. No reason P320 would be any different. “and parts supply train in the military for maintenance.” P320 has less parts that is even needed to be maintained. “Less expensive" Exactly what is less expensive? On what basis? "and less retraining required to migrate to M9A3 then the P320.” There is nothing new at an operator level someone have to do with a P320. Just less manipulation training required. “Also, the P320s have been showing a lot of failures, mostly with extraction and strikers in recent reviews.” All companies had lemons. Even M9s. “The Beretta is combat proven, the Sig is not.” Proven to be mediocre. Why is it that all top special forces teams that actually use pistols nearly never use M9, even in U.S. military? CAG does not use M9. SEAL does not use M9. If it is that good in combat, why do our top teams not use them? “Not sure the troops will do any better with the P320 as pistol training is not as much a priority item as rifle/carbine training, doubt proficiency will be improved with a new pistol. Better the devil you know then the devil you don't ." They certainly would not do better with a pistol that requires more manipulation, more things to be cautious of.
@ejoung12537 жыл бұрын
CZMan63. “But it will take a lot more money and time to get parts into the supply chain.” Maintaining M9 has a cost of its own, especially when there is a new purchase of more M9 involved. What number figure do you have to claim that the cost is lower than buying and maintaining P320 which has less parts to wear out to begin with 20~30 years down the road? “In any case, it is needless cost as there already were personnel and parts for M9A3 available from the start with no time element needed for migration to the new platform.” Not everything is about saving transition cost. If everything is about saving transition cost, then may be you should join the military that still use M1 Garand. “The M9/M9A1 and M9A3 are all basically the same system, no need for major transition pains." Transition pains are worth it if it is more effective system. Obviously the CAG, NAVY SEALS, SAS, GSG-9, GIGN, etc., thinks more simple striker fired pistols are more effective.

Even with a thumb switch version, still less manipulation than M9.
