Does anyone know whether this is, as it seems to me (having never handled or even seen one in the 'flesh') the PX-4 Storm is a polymer version of the older Beretta Cougar 8000...? I loved that gun and still own the compact, my only non competition pistol. I wondered how close the PX-4 Storm is to the Cougar 8000FL.

I have watched this and the part 1 videos multiple times. I've also watch a lot of other videos about guns that are similar to this one and I have decided that the PX4 Storm Compact is going to be my first semiautomatic pistol. Thank you so much for being so thorough.

I’ve owned the full size version PX4 Storm 9mm for 9 years or more. It is by far the softest shooting gun and most reliable we’ve ever shot ! Over 2500 hundred rounds , with only 2 ejection issues in the first 300 rounds , none there after. And recently I was debating between the Sig 365 / Lx or The PX4 compact/ carry. I believe I’ll be Sticking with the OG Gun manufacturer Beretta! Great video thank you.

Ditto. The full size PX4 9mm G model is my most soft shooting, accurate handgun I own. I can shoot 1 inch groups with it at 20 yards. I cannot do that with any of my other handguns. I have the comp trigger group, trigger bar, hammer spring upgrades and they all make a hell of difference. I will never part with my PX4.

I’ve owned a lot of guns including this one in .40 cal. Which I sold 10 years ago. I just went full circle and bought another one in 9mm. My Glocks are up for sale. I love everything about the PX4. Got the full size too. Awesome guns.

I have Trijicon HD sights on a few pistols, and the sights shot ridiculously high on my Glock 19 and Beretta 92A1. I called Trijicon and they told me to send them the slides with a note detailing the distance they were shot at and amount of error. Got them back in about 3 weeks and now both pistols shoot to point of aim. So, they do have other sight height options available at the factory, and they're fantastic to work with!

Knowing this is an old review (still great). For anybody trying to solve the sights, I can highly recommend the LPA sights. They have a couple of options, including sights with fiber optics with rear adjustment. My choice is the LPA SPR33X47F.

I carry a PX4 Subcompact in 40 S&W. I love this little pistol. It is a bit snappy in the 40cal, but so what. It is a little smaller than the compact but I don't have huge hands so it fits me well. I carry this gun Mon - Fri every day

I love my Compact PX4, added the stealth levers and Talon grips. As for the finish I sent the pistol to Robar for their NP3 finish which IMO is one of the finest, most durable finishes available. I looked the the Langdon Compact Carry at the NRA convention and was impressed by it's action and really good sights. The grey Cerakote looks good but I don't think it will wear any better than the factory Bruniton.

Your DA/SA pistol videos are some of my favorites. I would add that a person could also find a PX4 Compact in the Inox (stainless steel) finish which doesn't seem to have the same finish quality issues as the Bruniton finish, although for more $. I have both and prefer the Inox. My next project is to get the orange Ameriglo front sights on both of my PX4's. I've already converted both to G models.

Dakota, I picked it up a couple of months ago. Absolutely beautiful pistol. That being said, I haven't had the opportunity to get to the outdoor range yet so I haven't shot it. I have no doubt that it will be reliable though considering the reputation of the PX4 storm. The ergonomics of the pistol are great.

Great follow up review I appreciate the fact that you take the time to accuracy test several different loads several times each. I also just checked Truglo's sight and they make a front sight option in both the TFX a d TFX pro which will give you tritium and fiber optic capabilities. I use the TFX on all my pistols and will never stray from them for now on.
@LuckyGunner
@LuckyGunner 8 жыл бұрын
+Edwin Garcia I've seen the TFX. I would much prefer a red FO since that's what I'm going to on all my other handguns. Also, the TFX for the PX4 is technically only made for the full size. The sight base is not wide enough to cover the relief cut under the front sight on the Compact's slide. Mostly cosmetic, but still not ideal.

When I got my PX4, I had hoped to install a set of XS Big Dot sights. Unfortunately XS makes them for the full size & subcompact models. I like that big front sight. Instead, I went with the Trijicon HD sights. I'm satisfied with the accuracy at self defense ranges - 2-3 inch groups @ 7yds. The front sight isn't as big as the XS sights. but its bigger than original & the orange really helps.

I contacted Trijicon about the HD sight concerns, as I just ordered one. If the front site dot is placed at target center, impact will be high by 1.3 inches (consistent with your report on inaccuracy). The point of impact must be placed at the top of the site. Trijicon reports that by aligning the top of the sights, sight dots, and rear U-notch has found to provide faster combative hits at distances less than 20 yards.

I've skulked around your videos and "lab tests" on the Lucky Gunner site for quite awhile now. I normally do not comment on youtube vids but I would like to say I share almost the exact same thought process as you lol... From your take on the Beretta 1301 (and shotguns for home defense in general) to the acquisition and practice of using DA/SA as an appendix carry piece. I've tried several and there aren't a plethora of them available... Just traded the P30sk to a Walther p99c AS which I have to say, is my favorite so far. You have enough on your table as is I'm sure, but if you ever get the opportunity to try one I would recommend it. I sincerely hope the "community" recognizes there is still a need for a good DA/SA gun, especially in the carry variety. Thank You for the very informative and non-bias vids.

All right! The decision has been made! I'm heading to my LGS tomorrow to get the Inox version of this gun! I can't thank you enough for this series. It seemed perfectly timed with my own reservations about the safety of carrying/training with a striker fired pistol in the appendix position. Your videos are among the most well done on KZbin and your series has been very educational. I think I've now read/watched everything Ernest Langdon has posted online since you mentioned him and feel confident that my transition to DA/SA will be a smooth one with both of your advice. Thanks agian!

@@romans6two338 Mine had problems over the three years that I carried it. I had to send it back to Beretta twice for repairs. It then started having recurrent weird malfunctions that I couldn’t explain so I ditched it. I tried other DA/SA guns from Sig, HK, and CZ but none of them were right. The CZ P-07 came the closest. Also, my wife never could get used to the DA trigger. The trigger reach was just too much for her. My wife and I both have Glocks with TDG Striker Control Devices now (Langdon Tactical now makes these devices). I really did like the Px4. It’s incredibly fast for for it’s size and weight. I just wish Beretta would’ve been more helpful to keep mine running.

Great video on the F to G conversion!! That makes me wonder about buying the special Carry edition, but I probably will get it anyway. I don't know why the PX4 is so obscure. I was trying to get hands on a Grand Power, also, but all I get are "We just sold the last one, but we will order it for you, pay us now, and if you don't like it, there is a 40% restocking fee." That place is getting really old, really fast. Best prices in town, but nothing is in stock, unless it's a Glock. Beretta's pistol parts are priced very fairly. Grips for my 3032 were $7, after MPro 7 solvent melted the factory originals. That stuff will also melt the black plastic grips off model 950s, 21As, 92s, 84s, 86s, etc. I'd have been livid had the FS86B's grips been damaged. That FS86 .380 tip up is a rare little gun, and it is really super great for people with arthritic hands, who cannot rack a slide. I wish Beretta would make a tip up 9mm Para for people with bad hands. The 9mm Kurz is still good enough in most situations. I put mom into a .327 Fed Mag revolver with an easy trigger pull, and .327 has better knockdown power than a .40 S&W. Everything in the house is loaded and chambered anyway.

I just looked at one for quite a while at my local gun shop. I may pick it up tomorrow morning and sell my ATI OFFICER 1911. This gun feels as good as the 1911 and the 150,000 rd test that had no part failures is impressive. As far as the finish..most guns are over rated in that dept. My answer? The same thing I did to my LC9. Remove the finish and spend some time and elbow grease with the appropriate paper and polish to get the slide and barrel assembly to a mirror finish. Problem solved. It's satisfying to do and looks good in my and others opinion. Good info on this gun. Helps my decision making easier.

I hate it when manufacturers come out with sub quality products and then fix them and sell it as a new "custom shop" gun when they should just be re releasing the original version as a better product.

I just picked up the new Compact Carry, I just wonder how durable the Cerakote finish will be, we all know how the Bruniton wears easily. I solved the wear problem on my standard PX4 Compact by sending the pistol to Robar for their excellent NP3 (Norton Special) finish which over the years I'm of the opinion that this is the most durable finish ever. Looking forward to your review of the Compact Carry. I see you can order one directly from Robar with the NP3 finish already applied.

REVIEW THE P-07!!

I liked the video because you do a great job presenting the material. However, I do not like this gun, I could not get used to the snappy recoil and the wired feeling of the second shot follow up. I like shooting the 92, but this one is a no for me. Thanks again for your efforts to bring such good content.

Why do you black out the rear sights? Seems to me that in a low light situation it would be difficult to get the front sight properly aligned.

Lucky Gunner... I can't wait to see your complete review of the Compact Carry! :) I totally love my PX4 Inox 9mm, so now I'm in the market for the Compact, and going back-n-forth on whether to pony up for the CC, or just modify the compact. I did add the Talons and swap to the D-spring... I could not believe the difference! What an awesome shooter!!!! Thanks for the great videos/reviews & insight! :) Have made your decision for an EDC? You were still considering some other options, during this time.

Any comparison with the size and shoot-ability of the compact vs subcompact. I have a S&W shield but would like to switch to DA/SA and thought the sub-compact might be more comparable to the shield. However, waiting for the compact carry seems like a good option too?

I like the PX4, but it's too much of a pain to take out the firing pin for cleaning so for that reason I'll stick with my old school Ruger P95 as my DA/SA option because that slide comes apart super easy for cleaning. You just pop out the extractor and everything else comes out after that. The gun weighs basically the same as the PX4 too.

@LuckyGunner 8 жыл бұрын
+Prepare2Survive How much shooting are you doing? 3600 rounds and I've cleaned the PX4 maybe 3 times, and that didn't involve removing the firing pin. Just keep it lubed and move on.

Lucky Gunner Ammo I cast my own lead bullets that I powder coat and I have a progressive press that I reload about a dozen different calibers with and I shoot every weekend on both Saturday and Sunday, so I guess I'm shooting over 5000 rds per year in my Ruger P95, but that's not the point I was trying to make when it comes to keeping the firing pin clean. I realize a hammer fired gun can get very dirty inside that channel and still function fine, but I still prefer to do a thorough cleaning once in a while as long as the gun doesn't have a firing pin that's hard to take out. That's why I like Glocks, 1911s and the P series Rugers because the slides on those guns come apart very easy. Beretta is a great company and the PX4 is a great pistol, but after watching a slide disassembly video on youtube for the PX4 I'll have to pass. It's literally over 10 times more work than a Glock, 1911 or P95. When your gun collection starts to get large and you start to shoot a lot you kinda want guns that are easier to clean and maintain. At least that's the way I think.

The design makes it easy to clean the firing pin channel even without removing the firing pin.

How can you clean the firing pin on a PX4 without taking out the pin?
@arcfide
@arcfide 8 жыл бұрын
There are a few popular methods on the Beretta Forum that I have seen. Of course, it should be noted that a deep cleaning of the firing pin channel just isn't something that is needed with the design. Ernest Langdon has spent significant amounts of time with it, and I don't believe he does anything special in that regard. That being said, a number of people keep the firing pin channel clean by spraying gun scrubber into the channel and then using compressed air to blow out any remaining excess solvent. The firing pin block, extractor area, open hammer area, and the underside of the firing pin block all provide a means for the solvent to exit the channel. The underside of the firing pin block is near an open cutout in the slide that exposes the firing pin channel and allows you to spray or insert cleaner into the firing pin channel without taking the firing pin out. You can also direct compressed air through this cutout to clean out excess gunk. Really, any non-greasy, clean evaporating, non-water-based solvent will serve the same purpose. I use a variety of mineral spirits known as Breakthrough Clean Solvent that does the job nicely. Run such a solvent into the channel through the cutout and through the firing pin hole in the breech face, and then blow it out of there after giving it time to work on any grime that might be in there. It doesn't really get that dirty in there.

I just bought a .40 full size (no compacts in commiefornia) can't wait to run some rounds through it this weekend. I shot a Storm at a rental range & liked it a lot. I have also heard lots of good feedback for reliability. I'm not impressed by the finish either though, & will probably send it to Robar for an Np3 finish or something similar. Nice review, I like the channel.

Chris, did you end up getting the carry version? If so, how is it? Its on my list to possibly replace the G43 and G19 before that. I started with Beretta M9 in the Marines, then Glock as a LEO. I feel like Im maturing as a shooter and want to return to DA/sa. Are you able to conceal the storm well? G19 seems to be the smallest when compared to hammer fired with similar round count mags.

Great Video as always! Do you have any experience with the Sig SP2022? It is now my EDC carry gun, after a long and exhausting search to replace my G26 with a DA/SA carry gun. I got a great deal on one in FDE with night sights and 2 magazines. The only changes I've made to it have been replacing the extended pinky-grip mag base plate with factory flush fit ones and installing a factory Sig short reach trigger. Ergonomics and texturing are spot on. Holster options were limited so I purchased a custom IWB holster from Vedder Holsters, they are a great company. The SP2022 is definitely an outstanding and highly under rated gun!

I'm surprised they didn't just add some texture to their carry model, factory installed talons seems lazy.. Yet again, you've managed to get me thinking about spending more money! And I already EDC a CZ! Good stuff as always.

+buetang Adding texture would mean a completely new mold for the frame... just for a limited run that may or may not actually sell. Big expense for them and not worth the risk.

I have owned both the compact and sub-compact. The sub-compact does not have the rotating barrel. It's also taller than it is long, which made it a little odd for me to shoot. After trying both, I passed the sub-compact along and kept the compact. Really love the compact.

Why do so many modify their guns from the F-style safety/decocker to the G decocker-only? If I was in a scuffle and someone got ahold of my gun, I'd prefer that they had no idea how to shoot it because the safety was still activated. See Masaad Ayoob's recent video for the advantage this would give (a 15-second advantage, and those were with old S&W DAs which were much easier to figure out than the PX4 F). And if you don't think you're at risk of having your gun taken from you in a street encounter then you're dreaming. An extra 15 seconds (or longer) to either fight back or to run is huge.
