@@jackalfirearms thanks 😊 is a cracking little rifle 💥 just want to figure out what's causing the issues with Norma and Hornady ammo.. more out of curiosity given that the Sako 50gr shoots really well 👌

My Stoke in 308 is a very accurate rifle. I put the action in a sporter stock with an adj. cheekpiece, it is sub.moa with 5 shot groups. When i want to do some testing for accuracy i usually bring with me the torque wrench, different muzzle brakes, an air blower with a hose to cool off the barrel and different ammos to the range. BTW i bought the stoke because of your video, 20 inch barrel, 1:10 twist, i love it! Keep it up :)

I'm using the factory stock and the screw is down to 55 inch/lbs. The ammunition I shot hole in hole with the Bergara Stoke 223 was Geco Express. 3 shots 0.55 inch :)

Not factory Norma ammunition but had a similar problem when testing some moderate hand loads in my .223. Eventually discovered that the issue was 'soft primers', the firing pin was punching holes in them.
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@mmc8830 That's one of my suspicions 🤔 I'm certainly more than happy with the performance of the 50gr Sako Gameheads though 👌
@markus124522 күн бұрын
I have also tried many different types of amo, the only one that works is the ceco express 223. Bergara cannot build a 223. A friend of mine has exactly the same thing, nothing flies out of the Bergara except the 223 Geco express. I then sold the gun completely frustrated.
@jcprecisionrifle22 күн бұрын
@markus1245 mine has settled down a bit. Sako 50gr shoots nice. Havent had the time or money to test more brands yet but I might have to sell the .223 anyway to fund a new Rifle.

To your primer strike issues: There a a bunch of things that may cause the issue. Primer cratering or penetration often comes from to thin firing pins combined with to large firing pin hole. While shooting your primer is backing off the brass (to the rear). If the gap is too large your primer cup will move into this gap. That's why some folks tend to bush their bolts for the firing pin. Too thin cupped primers may also penetrate or crater. Light primer strikes, the other issue you described, can also be caused by headspace issues. I once had a few 30-06 Hornady factory bullets that didn't go off in my bergara b14. Measured them at home and found out that the ammo was headspaced too short. (looked at the CIP charts). Really nice Trainer rifle you build! The the precision issues would really anger me. Did you try shooting it without the moderator? Because it's quit long and won't benefit you with its mirage (as you already mentioned). Awesome video! Already waiting for part 3 🎉👍
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@45forall thanks 😊 I haven't tried shooting it without the moderator for groups since it came back from being tested. But that could definitely be an option going forward to stop mirage effecting the groups.

i know you dont want to spend any more money but i highly recommend the Cortina Precision EC Tuner Muzzle Brake. it’ll tune the ammo to that barrel real well.
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@wantutri7225 my intention is to always use this with a moderator. I may look into a Tuner/Mod combination though thanks 👌 At the moment the Sako 50gr shooting a Sub ½MOA group is plenty good enough for some plinking and hunting 👍

Just not a fan of military type stocks, but what you personally like is up to you
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@brianduffy5193 I think there's a bit of a misconception attached to chassis' that they are militaryesque.. they're just modern design and materials with up to date features.

Is the brass length all the same? Bullet seating within tolerance?
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@bullbars1822 yes as far as I'm aware. I have just found a forum thread with someone having exactly the same issues with Norma Tip Strike as I am with an entirely different rifle in the same month I purchased mine.... maybe it is just a dodgy batch? Two get a dodgy batch of both Hornady and Norma would be a massive coincidence although it would explain why the Sako is running fine and there is no consistent pattern between ammo manufacturers
@adamparker97652 ай бұрын
For starters ditch the Bipod on that hard surface . You can see from your scope cam how much its bouncing around every shot and different from shot to shot . Get a sand bag and watch it start grouping .
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@adamparker9765 👍 tbf I hate shooting off of benches too. Would much sooner go prone for groups and properly load the bipod without it sliding around.
@tomconachy28772 ай бұрын
They were terrible groups shot at 100 yards. Did you check was the barrel bedded and was it floating in your new chassis . My Sako 223 puts three rounds in a 3/8 of an inch group at 100 yards. My barrel is floating and bedded in the original stock
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@tomconachy2877 Yes it is free floated. Certainly the 55gr Sako wasn't great but the others were acceptable over 3 shots and the Sako 50gr at a .2 MOA group is pretty good. So I wouldn't say they were 'terrible'. The 4th and 5th shots i *think* are going to be largely down to the mirage from the moderator

@afternoondelight6322 I can't see why not.. but the same as always steel casings could cause damage to the chamber so should probably stick to brass

Accuracy seems kind of meh to be honest. I wonder how it would go with 69-75gr bullets.
@jcprecisionrifle2 ай бұрын
@beavism305 yeah not the greatest of sample sizes unfortunately, but it does seem to like the Sako 50gr over a 3 shot group and I do wonder how much the mirage was then effecting 4 and 5 shot groups. In time I will try some heavier rounds as welln, now that I know it was the previous rail causing the original accuracy issues.
