This video unpacks, demonstrates and reviews the Bergeon 7718-1A automatic oiler. The oiler is used to oil cap jewels of watch movements which can a bit tricky and require quite a bit of practice using a conventional oiler. The automatic oiler makes this procedure a lot more convenient and exact. With the automatic oiler the spot of oil on the cap jewel is placed dead centre, is perfectly round, and (given that the oiler has been adjusted using the eccentric screw) covers the desired 50 to 70 % of the cap jewel surface.

Thank you, you are right about the English instructions. For years I have been oiling the cap jewel the old fashioned way for decades, i.e holding it in my tweezers and applying a tiny dot on the cap, but this can have pitfalls, too much, too little and sometimes a tiny shake from my hand and you have to start again. But with the instructions from Bergeon on this tool, there was nothing getting to the cap jewel, but rather it was oiling the insetting instead. I tried the way you have just described and I could not be happier. Thank you once again.

It looks like your technique differs slightly from the instructions included with the oiler. I see that you first push up on the button before inserting the tip into the jewel hole while the instructions say, "Introduce point of needle into jewel hole as far as allowed by steel tube. Needle thereby retracts slightly. Push up button to touch eccentric screw, then release". Did you try doing it that way?

Yeah, I'm surprised I couldn't find other videos with instructions on how to use them. I googled it, but only found videos of people showing them, but no videos of anyone actually using them or demonstrating how to use them. For the first several videos I didn't even know what they did. I had only guesses they were used to oil things, because of the name. That doesn't always prove to be the case though. (For example, if a person never saw a computer before, he would have no clue as to what it is or what it does by its name. A person would most likely think it's a calculator or mechanical device for doing math.)

Kind sir, thank you for making this video. If I may offer a point of critiquing; I would not recommend the use of tweezers as a tool for the transfer of oil from the bottle into the oiler reservoir. Even if your particular tweezers are immaculately clean and void of any contaminants, others may not use such clean tweezers and run the risk of not only contaminating the newly transferred oil with grime and debris, but also contaminating the oil in the bottle - not to mention the tremendous amount of oil that is wasted as it has now adhered to a large surface area of the tweezers. I clean thin wire with a loop at its end does the same work without the risk of contamination nor waste. :) Good luck.

yazzman1 Good point! I always clean the tweezers meticulously using IPA, cotton swabs, and blower before and after transferring the oil, but thank you for describing an alternate method.

Thank You! Worthwhile investment if oil can be kept long term in the pen. Also, inside of pen, dust particles from the air cannot contaminate the oils. Less oil wasted on dumping out of wells every few watches because of inevitable contamination. Perfect oiling of stubborn jewel that has been ultrasonically cleaned and clear, but refuses to be removed from watch even with a hand presser. Less worry about breaking a jewel from pressing out on rare watches that such a broken jewel cannot be easily found, save buying another watch!

Thank you for this, it's alot of money to buy these but when I'm thinking of it I don't really like to oil stuffs as I need to redo the dipping in the oil, cap jewel sometimes redo for hours etc. I think I'll skip manual oiling, will order this :D

Hey i could be wrong but i think you're also on the watch repair talk forum, if so i'm birbdad on there. I'm trying to use this thing fo rthe first time and i can't seem to get a uniform bubble with it, it's always lopsided with one part of it touching the edge of the cap jewel, i cannot get htat nice round uniform bubble like you're supposed to. I'm making sure it's clean every time i fail but wondering if you have any advice?

No need to worry! As long as the tweezers are completely clean, as in my case, it is a convenient way to transfer the oil. You can clean the tweezers' tips with cotton swabs dipped in isopropanol, then dip the tweezers' tips in a piece of pith wood and finally blow the tips of the tweezers clean with a blower. Regardless, it is good to clean the tweezers' tips from time to time
