Do you want a full time engineer for free. I’d be happy living there 🤪 With the sea chest, one side is likely an inlet, and the other an outlet. The lid for the sea chest is above the waterline, so you can open them without having to close them off, as the water will never be above the lid….unless you’re upside down, and that’s another whole can of worms. I do like how Bering has zero angle prop shafts so all the thrust is directly forward. As far as I know, they are the only non commercial vessels that are built this way. Not meaning to be greedy/selfish, but you could have an engineering tour that’s 4 hours long(that’d only be the 1st part of a 3 part miniseries), and I’d be a very happy camper.

Rico is in HEAVEN. I have a feeling he will be spending a lot of time in the engine room/man cave for some quite time. 🙂
@gregchrist509011 ай бұрын
I could be incorrect, but I believe that the sea chest will have 2 pipes running to it. Each one will be able to be valued off so you can remove the strainer from them and clean them individually so the boat does not have to be hauled and can continue running. So they both feed a separate box that feeds all the required mechanicals that need sea water. Plus, as I recall, the sea chests are actually below the water line. So this is the only way it can be done. I understand Rico's some what flustered memory as they are trying to remember about a thousand different things going into the boat, and having to pay for it is a bit stressful. Take a deep breath both of you. You have a lot on your plate, but it will all come together soon.

Once I understood the for-aft orientation, most of it makes sense. There are so many systems, pumps & tanks that it's difficult for non Nautical people like me to follow it all. Perhaps some stills from the plans to indicate what we're looking at would help. The real scale of your little ship is starting to hit me, because it's really big inside. It's like seeing a house without rooms or floors. It must be so exciting to walk around inside it & feel how real it all is now.

Forgive my naivete but I have a process question or two... and I apologize if I have missed this on another video. What preps are you doing to take over as captain(s) of this new vessel. I know you are both licensed and have oodles of experience, but who stands at your side once you take the helm as owners. Who mentors you as you motor farther and farther from shore or into a tight shallow bay in all weathers? Whom do you trust to be honest with you about your own skills from the standpoint of someone who is more experienced than you on this style, size and sophisticated of a vessel. Whom will you seek to have sign off on you? Is it part of the purchase price? Is the organization that licensed you to do it? And how long might that take... I know, at some point you just have to take a heading and venture out, but... what is the process. It is wonderful to see you two strive to attain your goal, but we know there is so much more to this than choosing what water maker to get. Thanks for letting us watch and share in your excitement!
