@@WR3DD It's only part of the game because the refs allow it. I know it's easy for me to say while I'm sat at home behind a computer, but if I was the ref, I would be booking Son for simulation 100%, he got a fingertip to his nostril, there is no reason for him to go to ground, but he does because he wants to convince the ref that he's severely hurt. There’s a perfect opportunity to rid the game of this in conjunction with their concussion laws they are looking to bring in. If a player goes down holding the head or their face, take them off for a head injury assessment to make sure of no concussion. Danny Murphy is absolutely spot on - the referee is at fault for this controversy. VAR is to assist the referee in making a decision, not make the decision for the referee. He didnt want to make a decision and used VAR showing incidental contact in slow motion to override his initially correct decision. The reality is even without the foul that goal will most likely still have happened because the foul occurred so far away from the goal and the key pass didn't come from McTominay, it came from Fred.

Exactly if you want the refs to have authority give them the authority and the backing of everyone watching. Mic them up and let us hear why its a foul, etc. - Players surround the ref, the ref gives a clear warning to back away. If they dont yellow card - Swear at decisions towards the ref, yellow card for dissent The refs are too weak in the 1st place, thats why they get walked over by players etc.

The technology works very well in cricket after a few minor adjustments. I suggest that a team should only be allowed to appeal to VAR once per half. The ref could also have the power to warn a player that if he continues to protest a decision it will be referred to VAR and the team's appeal will be lost if found to be fallacious. As VAR is only intended to prevent howlers, severely limiting the number of appeals will greatly concentrate the player's minds. Other than as a response to over-pressurizing the Ref, the decision to go to VAR should be taken out of the Refs hands and given to captains, as it is in cricket. If the judgment is in the affirmative then the appeal is restored, if not it is lost.

The screaming that we've had to witness is fucking laughable!! Imagine Mick Harford, Tony Adams, Roy Keane or Andy Gray screaming? They'd get absolutely crucified on a match day for it. They'd never live it down. That'd be from other players!! Nevermind the fans!! But from the other side if you don't scream and feign injury now you get nothing and are ostensibly punished for being honest?

Sometimes when players stay on their feet they never get the foul that's why you see players doing what Son is doing now. Players would want to gain an advantage whatever way possible. It's part of the game now whether we like it or not.. the players and refs are both accountable.

Danny Murphy saying they don't know because they haven't played the game, fat chance that someone that has would become a referee though is there. Plus plenty of pundits are also ex-players and seem completely clueless so playing the game at a professional level is no guarantee of competence either.

I have thought this for so many years. Players and ex players are always criticizing refs for having never played the game and therefore not understanding it. Well where are all these ex players lining up to become referees? Much easier to sit in a comfy studio slating refs. In fact Jason Mohammad made this point to Alex Scott on MOTD2 and she ignored it.

The only answer is to abandon VAR during the game but then use it to review every game retrospectively. Then every player deemed to have dived, cheated, simulated contact should be banned for 6 games. I bet it would stop overnight.

People immediately label Salah and Mane as divers but there have been many times they have been fouled and stayed on their feet, yet nothing is given. The Refs are primarily to blame as they have encouraged the culture of "we wont consider it, if you dont go down". Dont get me wrong, both of them have also dived a few times but I hope my point comes across.

They have got a job to do and are getting paid for it, if they messed up like they are doing now anywhere else they'd have been sacked. If you still can't get it right after looking at it on TV then you just ain't good enough. Most of Europe and other countries have used VAR well, why can't we?

How is this a dive??? Lamela did the same thing and got a second yellow card in the NDL. Tierney dropped like a sack of cement and not a single word from anyone but now it’s not a foul? it’s a natural thing players do?? Cmon man he got wacked in the face and went down immediately. The correct decision was made. It’s was 100% a foul. Sure Son milked it, but that’s not a “dive”, he clearly got hit in the face. Everyone has a different pain tolerance and sometimes those surprise hits to the face hurt really bad even tho it looks soft. Pointless debate. Media really has an agenda against Tottenham.

Ok I'm a spurs fan and I agree I'd be very upset if that decision was given the other way round, minimal contact and no need to go down, I agree. However, minimal or not, the rules state facial or head injury the ref has to stop the game, so surely whether he stays up goes down, does a cartwheel, the rules state the ref stops the game. So unfortunately even if son had stayed on his feet the chances are the outcome would've been the same. Welcome to modern football and modern day footballers everyone. It's not gonna change 🤷‍♂️

Comes back to money, job pressure and all that. A player goes down easily to win a freekick/penalty/etc for their team, the manager benefits if they then score, and the owner could then benefit if its for a league or cup win. Basically it comes down to how much money is at stake in these games.

There is nothing wrong with VARS it is just not used correctly by officials. For VARS to work this is how they should use it. No1 Both Teams get 3 calls about a decision against them within 90 minutes of the match. No calling it in 46/47/etc or 91/92/etc mins. The ref then stops the game goes over and looks at that decision. No2 Used only to see if the ball crossed the goal line or not. This would not be counted as a teams call, more if you have 11 players saying yes and the other 11 said no. A quick look to see who is right. No3 If the ref himself is not 100% sure even after looking himself then you Have one official and one ex-player be sitting off the field to view the calls and simply have 2 lights. 1 green for correct and 1 red for wrong. That's it simple really.

They need to get a respectable ex-footballer within the VAR Hub and help with decisions. A referee that has never played the game, will give that a foul because they can't appreciate what a player needs to do with their arms to get anywhere. Son shouldn't be trying to grapple with McTomminay, to begin with, that's the whole reason McTomminay is trying to hold Son off! I'm a United fan and we've been guilty of players going down far too easily/often. Ronaldo, Young, Rashford, Martial, and Fernandes to name a few... When Sir Alex Ferguson was at United, he reprimanded Young, the only way forward is reprimanding any player that uses simulation to gain an advantage, and when clubs/players start missing out on trophies/awards or percentage of their income, MAYBE, just maybe, we'll see an improvement!
