Years ago at a bike shop I worked at, the mechanic made a chain from the “drops”, or ends left over when fitting a new chain. Pieces of chains from $8 to $80. Ran it on his mountain bike for a year. There was no noticeable wear difference in any section.
@Teddy_Bear312

Would be weird if there was more wear on the cheaper parts. As long as the chain is lubed evenly a couple times a year it doesn't get much wear in general.

When I was younger I used to repair the bikes of all my friends. I didn't have any special tools. One of the most common things I needed to fix was chains. I have once disassemble whole chain. The parts I have gain for that are very useful, washers and two types of plates. The plates are very useful when you have to repair some broken big plastic parts, firstly you heat up the plat to red hot, then wait to cool down then put that plate across the broken part boundry, then you heat up some iron rod and use it for melt in plate into the plastic. You use them ass many as you nedd depending on the lenght of broken boundry. Burning plates is neccesery for burning of all oil and greasses and secondly to form from those burn of oils and greasses a porous carbon layer. Those porous layer helps alot plstic to bound into the metal. The good practice is to melt in entirely plate into the plastic and smear plastic on top of plate to prevent rust.

A moment of respect for the Park Tool chain breaker. That thing took a beating, taking what... 120 links apart? 2 pins per link? Bravo.

I've been running two different sizes of spokes on the same wheel of my ebike for a few months now, it acts almost as good as a regular wheel, just harder to keep it perfectly centered. The two sets of spokes are ten or twenty milimeters different from each other. I never knew it would last this long without breaking.

It wouldn't break if its perfectly built 😉 I've once done 6 different lengths of spokes on a pair of wheels, 258, 265, 270, 275, 289, 295mm 😉 the reason for using that 6 type of spoke is; i built it just for experimental reasons.. on a 36 holes rim and 32 holes hub, that's why i needed those different length of spokes.. no damage or breaking for more than 3 years of bike to work & weekend riding.. It took me more than a day to build those wheels 😊

I wanna ask. How often do you have to replace a master chain link? I'm new to the cycling scene.

Your channel is starting to remind me of a guy known in the homebrewing community, Brulosophy. He tests all the processes and methods that should result in unsatisfactory beer...only to find out that almost none of them are true (at a homebrew scale at least). Your hardtail is basically a test bed for all the things that mountainbikers typically frown upon...yet still get the job done.
