But actually, please don’t do this. The TQ used looks like a Chinese made counterfeit of an older generation North American Rescue CAT tourniquet. Further, UV light, specifically sunlight breaks down plastic, it is strongly advised to store these in a protective pouch so they don’t degrade before use. If you want to carry something that could save your life, buy the real thing and keep it in your hip pack or out of the sun so it’s ready when you need it.

Hi Seth! Glad to see some of the Chunder Goodies @ 10:00 made it into the video! A note on the anywhere mount, I didn't intend it to be used with a water bottle as I don't trust it with that much weight. Did you happen to test it with one? The tube plate and pump mounts I make are the proper thickness to prevent the screw from going through and hitting the frame. Good suggestion on adding a backing, I will make sure to add a warning so others don't have that issue! Thanks for giving them a look, and thanks for not minding the paint ding!

Yeah, take a look at the inside of specialized SWAT door. I think it’s got a rectangular shape molded into it that keeps these square flat nuts in place to secure the bottle cage screws and keep them from driving in too far.

Totally. I don't work regularly as a first responder, but I've had first responder training. That kit seems pretty great for its intended usage. Edit: for those that don't think the tourniquet is appropriate, I had a friend impale his leg on a branch recently. Had he hit an artery, a tourniquet may have been a critical lifesaving necessity.

About the tourniquet, it's the CAT (Combat Application Tourniquet) Which is very effective, but requires some basic knowledge to use with full potential, which I urge you to learn (lots of videos about it). Also worth noting, using it will compromise it's future strength, so you should keep this one for practice purposes and get a new one.

While it is a great idea, I have some serious concerns about the med kit. Tourniquets require training to use safely, and as you said using it for practice or even as a retention item degrades its effectiveness. I may be wrong with this, but based on the price of their kits I seriously doubt that is a genuine tourniquet, which run about $30 each (The genuine TQs are made by North American Rescue which makes the CAT, or TacMed Solutions, which makes the SOF-T). I don't want to discount the Mend-It company at all, I'm just coming from a concerned health provider background. If anyone has any questions I can provide resources and references. Training is by far the most valuable resource you can invest in when it come to first aid.

My experience with tourniquets in the army and with safety training in the civilian world has taught me that you really cant do much harm with them when using properly. If the bleeding is life threatening, you tighten it enough to stop the bleed. Any damage to the body part (tissue or nerve) will only come with prolonged hold, and if the other option is life threatening bleeding, it doesnt really matter, right? And what comes to the strength of the items, in the army we would train over and over again with our personal tourniquets. Ive never seen one break when tightening it and for a real piece, I dont think its even possible with normal use and training. I would even go as far as saying that an unused one is more dangerous than a used one, as it might be defective from the factory, if the quality control over there has failed. But youre both right on about training, learn how to use it, learn how to apply it with one hand, learn how to do it to someone else, learn how to do it in a rush, with clothes on, over a booted leg, in the dark and etc... Its like CPR, do it over and over until it comes natural.

@@akselikoskinen5445 so talking from a perspective of an ex combat medic, I've seen some tourniquets break after intensive, repetitive training, but actually I'm more concerned about its ability to hold stress for prolonged duration of time, and if it has been used before, the velcro part, which hold the entire stress, must have weakened to a certain extent, and in harsh conditions (think wet, mobile situation) when someone's life depends on this thing, you should really just use a new one.

I've been shipping them out to Ukraine for the past several months... they go through way more abuse than barely being put on and twisted once or twice. And they still work fine. As for damage to humans, the soldiers use them at ANY indication of a wound, arterial or not, because they don't trust that they won't miss something being that they're not experts. No issues. And they crank them down.

One minor point on the Mend It, that Tourniquet isnt meant as a frame strap, sustained UV exposure and all the crap your tire kicks up will degrade the strap and cause the tourniquet to fail when you definately dont want it to fail. The kit looks designed to be broken down or stowed whole in a back pack or ass bag.

Really like the cassette pliers and wrench combo. The part I "made" for myself is not really my own but I found it a new purpose. I turned a bottle cage adapter into a front mudguard mount for my suspension corrected fork in 2021, and it's running well to this day. It's only one part of the cage adapter and four P-clips on the fork. There is a particular type of adapter that works for this really well, better than any marketed solution I could find in a year. I can't post pictures here but if you need something like this and have no tools to make it, google bottle cage adapter and look for one that has a symmetrical "rotating part" with three screw holes. That type fits a 26 inch sus corrected fork perfectly and your fender mounting point will be exactly in the middle.

that med kit is great, it is similar to what we recommend Mtb patrollers to carry while out patrolling. I would suggest not strapping it to your bike, but to carry in a bag to protect the tourniquet. I think the reason that 3d printed chain guard works and your previous prints didn't comes back to the suggestions a lot of us gave you in the comments of that video. Just from what you showed, it looked like he had printed it with more perimeters, and it looks like maybe a wider nozzle as well? Since the majority of a print's strength comes from its walls, that makes a large difference in durability right there. While you certainly couldnt expect all the parts you made to work (that brake disc as an example), there were definitely a couple that likely would have worked fine with just some slicer setting refinements.

Also the difference between PLA and PETG is dramatic in terms of durability. PETG can be finicky, but if you nail the settings you can create some very durable parts, especially compared to PLA.

I am trained to deal with medical situations but at that time I did not have any first aid equipment on me. Would have been super helpful to have one. I bought one of these off eBay, I think, a couple years ago. Seemed pretty strong, but it broke pretty quickly on the trails. That log Seth hit was pretty rotted. I killed mine on a solid logover. A rock would break that easily, unfortunately.

Yes it indeed is. I have a cheaper version of parktool pliers and they have a tendency to slip easily on the cassette. That kind of version looks a lot more easier to use and apply good enough leverage to keep the cassette in place.

I've had a CNC aluminium top cap which takes bottle caps for years - I rock a Motorhead Road Crew bottle cap on mine! Also, chromes brass Schrader valve caps with integrated core remover have been around for a very long time.

For Context: I’m running a VEB Heldrungen Bike Trailer for my Grocery’s, an it has Valvecaps that can remove Valve Cores. Never seen something like this. I think, they’re only preserved because the 53 yo Communist rubber is still holding up fine 😅

To make good 3d printed parts, you have to make the infill 100% and use a higher end filament you can buy loads or stronger/ flimsy or even flexible materials! If you ever wanted to try printing bike parts again I would suggest using a different material then you were using

Yes and no. CNC kitchen on youtube did a test a while back that showed the inverse can be true in some scenarios. Part strength is a rabbit hole you can go really really far down. CNC Kitchen just barely scratches the surface.

Yeah, I was using the best quality Petg you can get, but it was definitely not at 100% infill. For a bash guard, I think you're right. For other parts I don't think the infill would matter as much as wall thickness, and for the most parts my design were just crappy!

@@BermPeakExpress I wouldn't even use PET-G - it can cope with some flex, sure, but what the 3D printing communities and tests don't touch on (bar the odd ones that do notched impact tests) is that PET-G behaves non-newtonianly, it stiffens the harder you hit it. That means for impacts it becomes really brittle. You're much better off printing things in one of the Taulman nylons (they'll have something depending on what your printer can cope with) for functional parts. The other 'secret' to 3d printing is the best looking parts generally always come off a printer with slight underextrusion and temperatures too low for decent layer bonding. If you set your print profiles on looks, you're going to have brittle, understrength parts compared to printing hot, slow and with full flow. I print actual end-use, functional engine mounts, suspension bushes, brackets, exhaust hangers, etc, for cars by sticking to making sure the bonding is great rather than pretty, and they hold up very well.

Told you bash guards are the thing to make. The key is a good filament (like petg) and lot's of walls to make it solid. They cost less than a buck to print out, so if one breaks, just print another.

I think with the wrist strap thing, you put it on your wrist with the finger thing loose. Hold your bars and with the finger thing on your ring finger, then tighten the strap underneath your bars just tight enough that you can hold the bars without gripping, Seth. Please will you try it out and consider the benefits of the product for someone who is either getting older and loosing grip strength or someone like me who is developing arthritis in their wrist from a lifetime of being stupid on MTBs please mate? The first product (mend it kit) touches on my area of expertise (wilderness medicine) so I really want to put this out there, 1. If you need to apply a tourniquet, do not put it over clothes, do not remove it after its applied and put it as high on the limb as possible (armpit or crotch) 2nd. If you do not have any medical training, then attempting to save someones life is assault and battery. Consent is implied when they are unconscious only. Otherwise ask for consent before touching anyone and only provide care up to the level of your training, dont make guesses outside your scope of practice.

Here in uk if you have had a first aid training course you are legally obliged to give them as good as first aid as you can. Unless of course they tell/ sign to you that they do not want to receive it.

A good addition to the med kit is some quick clot. You can buy little pouches of it at various drug stores and it will work to shut down bleeding from large cuts

The Mend It kit is a fantastic idea. A sam splint and a tourniquet in an easy to carry setup. Please take some time to learn how to properly use a TQ before you actually need it but there's a reason all of us in law enforcement/Medics carry these things with us. I keep a larger med kit in my camelback and the bandages/splints come in handy all the time out here in the AZ mountains. Solid product.

Challenge for you Seth, maybe do a video on viewer requested 3D parts. My challenge is to make an over the bar button for a SRAM AXS dropper button. Nothing like this exists on the market for folks who have a suspension lockout lever outside of using SRAM TwistLoc. Would love to see if it’s possible to create a custom AXS button that’d work for an over the bar lever button with a stick AXS controller. I’d buy the first prototype 😬 Love the channel!

Insofar as those bottle cage mounts, you can get inserts that take the usual screws for those but they're good for steel and aluminium bikes. Bike Packers add bottle cage mounts all over their bike including the forks and rear triangle for booties and food storage. Pannier mounts use the same threads.

Pedros makes similar cassette pliars, but with the mechanism of vice grips. And they work really well
